If you’re reading this blog, you’ve probably been in a few toy stores in the past year. With that being the case, I imagine you’ve all heard of this video game called “Disney Infinity”. Like “Skylanders” before it, you buy Disney figurines and stick them on a special base to activate the character in the on-screen Disney Infinity video game. It’s basically what Pokémon would be if Nintendo forced players to buy a toy in order to use each of the 800+ Pokemon.
Of course, all this was totally irrelevant to Marvel fans–until now! Today, Disney formally announced the new 2.0 Disney Infinity Marvel Super Heroes video game, which will coincide with the launch of Disney Infinity Marvel figures and characters!
At least, I was safe… for a while. Coming in Fall 2014 for the Disney Infinity 2.0 version: Disney Infinite Marvel Super Heroes video game!
Disney Infinity 2.0 Marvel Super Heroes will be coming back to video game consoles later this year, and this time it will also be playable on next-gen consoles like the Wii U, XBox One and PS4 (Sorry, original Wii fans!).
All of the figures, Toyboxes Power Discs and even the base from Disney Infinity 1.0 will be compatible with Disney Infinity 2.0 and the Disney Infinity Marvel Superheroes game. There will be additional Disney characters added for Disney Infinity Marvel Super Heroes, in addition to the new Marvel characters and figures such as the Avengers.
Disney wanted this game to feel authentic, so they brought in the renowned Marvel writer Brian Michael Bendis himself to make sure that the game and its story would “feel” like a real Marvel comics story!
There have apparently been a variety of upgrades made to the gameplay for Disney Infinity 2.0, including improved character locomotion, attributes & skill trees, and special skills & combat.
The video game definitely has a look and style that we’ve never seen before for Marvel Super Heroes, that’s for sure!
- Nick Fury
- Iron Man
- Captain America
- Thor
- Hawkeye
- Black Widow
- Hulk
- Spider-Man
- Rocket Raccoon
- Groot
- Ultimate Green Goblin
- MODOK
- Loki
- The Winter Soldier (Power Disc Only)
- Iron Patriot (Power Disc Only)
I’m very excited to see Disney/Marvel showing the Guardians of the Galaxy some love in this game, in the form of Rocket Raccoon and Groot! I have a hunch that there will be a Disney Infinity Rocket Raccoon and Groot figure that has both figures on the same base. We’ll see.
I’m not at all surprised to see Loki appear in Disney Infinity Marvel Super Heroes either, although this funky take on MODOK is definitely unexpected!
There will also be Marvel vehicles that you can control in the game and activate via Marvel Disney Infinity Power Discs, including Captain America’s Sky Cycle and (YESSSS!!!!) Lola from Agents of SHIELD.
Disney went on to reveal the first six figures that will be available for Disney Infinity 2.0 Marvel Super Heroes: Hulk, Captain America, Hawkeye, Thor, Iron Man and Black Widow! You may have heard of these characters before, as they’re part of a team called “The Avengers”!
All of the Marvel Disney Infinity figures will be totally unarticulated PVC figures, the same as previous Disney Infinity figures have been. There are at least a dozen figures planned beyond the six that Disney debuted today, with more Marvel Disney Infinity character/figure announcements expected to be made at E3 2014 in June.
The individual figures should retail for about $10 each, although three figures will be exclusive to the Disney Infinity 2.0 Marvel Superheroes Starter Kit…
The Disney Infinity Marvel Super Heroes Starter Kit will be released in Fall 2014, and will include figures of Thor, Iron Man, and Black Widow, as well as “The Avengers” Playset. I’ll post additional updates as Marvel/Disney reveal more information about Disney Infinity Marvel Super Heroes, and you can ‘Like’ Marvel Toy News on Facebook to have future images, news and updates sent right to your Facebook Newsfeed!
Marvel fans, speak out! How many of you have already played Disney Infinity? Is anyone who wasn’t interested in the Disney Infinity video game intrigued now that Disney has announced Disney Infinity Marvel Super Heroes figures to coincide with this fall’s new video game?
I like the Incredibles.
I noticed this genius marketing strategy while hunting at Toysrus. When I had a moment,I asked an employee about it. This is why Disney is a financial powerhouse. I had no intention of buying or playing this game. I can’t afford it.
If I can’t find characters I like in action figure form,I freely will buy a figurine.
The Lone Ranger and Incredibles for example. If I didn’t already do Marvel Legends, marvel minimates, marvel select, marvel hero mashers, Marvel3.75 Transformers,Star Wars, and Dc Chess, this universe of Disney and Marvel game figurines would be one awesomely exclusive line to collect!
Personally,my style is a little to eclectic for just one massive line like this.
Right off, I don’t like the soft kiddie-cartoon like look of the Hulk and co. However, I’m not their demographic.
Ultimate Marvel Alliance is my game and I didn’t have to buy anything but the game itself to play as all favorite heroes!
