Considering that the Iron Man Mark VII armor is featured in the most popular and top-grossing superhero movie of all-time (The Avengers), you would think that our shelves would be overflowing with a ton of great scaled 6″ Marvel Legends Iron Man Mark VII figures. Instead, we have zero. For whatever reason, Hasbro has never prioritized making a Mark VII Iron Man Marvel Legends-scaled figure, leaving a gaping hole in many collectors’ movie lineups. But it’s Japan to the rescue! Coming in August 2014, the amazing (and amazingly expensive) Avengers Figma Iron Man Mark VII figure is now up for order!
As soon as we saw the first prototype photos of these Figma Avengers figures, I knew this Iron Man Figma was going to be pretty killer. And it totally is (with a killer price to match). This is the Iron Man Mark 7 Avengers movie figure that collectors have been waiting for–and frankly, it’s far, far nicer than anything that Hasbro would have given us if that had decided to tackle this version of the Iron Man armor in the Marvel Legends 6″ scale.
The deco and gloss on this Iron Man Mark 7 Figma action figure looks absolutely incredible. And before anyone asks, yes–Figma figures do tend to come out looking every bit as shiny and exquisite as the prototypes for them. There shouldn’t be any bait-and-switch here–I expect that this Figma Iron Man action figure is going to look just as snazzy in your collection as it does in the glamor shots.
You might not expect a flimsy-looking clear plastic flight stand that you’re given “free” as a pack-in to be very effective, but they tend to work fantastic. Iron Man will be flying around on your desk with no problems whatsoever!
The Avengers Iron Man Figma figure even has all of the necessary articulation built in to do “extreme” poses like the iconic Iron Man crouching and punching the ground pose. I think this little Figma figure can actually pull off this pose better than any of my Hot Toys Iron Man figures, to be honest.
There is also a Figma Iron Man Mark VII Full Spec Ver. exclusive coming out, which takes the regular Iron Man Mark VII Figma Avengers figure and adds a handful of new accessories to it. Think of this as being like a “Sideshow Exclusive Edition” that gives us an incentive to buy direct from the manufacturer. This Figma Full Spec Ver Iron Man figure will only cost an extra 1,000 yen (about 10 bucks), but will only be available through the Good Smile Company directly.
These new add-ons include a Robert Downey Jr. Tony Stark Figma head, as well as various optional pieces that will allow you to open the flaps on the Figma Avenger Iron Man figure’s back, launch a wrist rocket, or fire missile pods from his shoulders. I’m sort of irked that the Tony Stark head only comes with the Figma Iron Man Full Spec Version, as I feel like that should be standard for the price this figure costs.
The Avengers Figma Iron Man Mark VII figure is now available for pre-order, with a scheduled release date of August 2014 (and Figma is not a company that typically misses their expected dates). At a U.S. price-point of around $90 for this figure, I’m hesitating a bit on this one. I don’t think that the price is going to down, necessarily, but I’m feeling a bit stingy and wondering if we might eventually get a cheaper S.H. Figuarts Iron Man Mark VII figure.
What about you, Marvel collectors? Is this ultra-cool Figma Avengers Iron Man Mark VII action figure worth the big bucks to you? Will this figure be rounding out your Marvel Legends-scale Avengers movie figures lineup?
I was all ready to order, and I’d even pay $10 more than Thor, because Figmas are awesome and this looks great.
Then you had to go and show me how cool all the extra stuff is, likie those things on his back and the RDJ head, and tell me they are not included at that price.
I got the SH Figuarts IronMans at less than that and they weren’t missing a bunch of stuff, and they’re great. For less money.
Believe me, I was also not amused by the Full Spec Ver. Seems like bad form to me to ask another ten bucks for a couple accessories for an already extremely expensive figure like this.
Most Japanese figure companies don’t do exclusive add-ons like this, and it seems a bit silly to tick off loads of collectors to get an extra ten bucks.
Wow, that looks amazing. The first figure I’ve seen that has me considering buying a higher end figure (beyond my usual MS and ML figures).
