It was just a week ago that Funko “won” New York Comic Con 2014 for me when they showed off an entire display case filled with previously unannounced Funko Hikari Groot Vinyl Figures at the Toy Tokyo booth. Not wanting to wait too long to cash in on the hype and popularity of Guardians of the Galaxy, Funko has fast-tracked their super-sized 11″ Groot figure, and he’s now expected to arrive this winter: the limited edition Groot Funko Hikari figure is now up for order!
When I had to pick my jaw up off the floor at the sight of the Funko Guardians of the Galaxy Groot Hikari vinyls at NYCC 2014 last week, I thought I was going to have to wait a few months before I’d get the opportunity to order one. Thankfully, that’s not the case!
Funko knows the demand for any toys for the real star of Guardians of the Galaxy (and here Marvel thought it was going to be Star-Lord), and they’ve rushed to get the outstanding Funko Hikari Groot figure up for order as quickly as possible!
In honor of Guardians of the Galaxy being the biggest movie of the year (actually, it’s probably just a coincidence), Funko is making their Groot Hikari the biggest Funko Hikari figure yet! The Groot Funko Hikari figure stands 11″ tall, so he will absolutely tower over the Funko Guardians of the Galaxy POP! Vinyls figures and even the other Funko Hikaris released. If ever there was an ideal choice for the super-sized treatment, it’s Groot. Good call, Funko!
The Funko Hikari Sofubi Groot Vinyl figure is now available for order, and is scheduled for release in December 2014/January 2015. This would be an awesome figure to give as a holiday gift, so here’s hoping that Funko is able to get this vinyl Groot figure into collectors’ hands in time for Christmas!
For $80 Funko better be giving out handys with it….. these things are over-priced. This one should be $50 tops and the others releases should be $34.99.
Designer urban vinyls tend to run expensive, unfortunately. Funko is aiming for the high-quality designer artwork with the Hikari line and not the masses like their POP! Vinyls line–in other words, they’re aiming for Kid Robot’s market. For what it’s worth, the Funko Hikaris are outstanding quality and I’m much happier spending $80 on an 11″ Groot than $50 on the larger Kid Robot Marvel Labbits.
At 5,000 pieces made these things will be one ebay for cheaper after they come out. watch…
And.. preordered!
This’ll look fantastic next to the Dragon Models Baby Groot 🙂
