Funko Marvel Collector Corps I Am Groot Box Unboxing Spoilers & Review

Funko Marvel Collector Corps boxes have managed to live on for far longer than I ever, ever expected—so much so that I was only vaguely aware Amazon was still distributing them at all. But I’m a sucker for Baby Groot, which is why I must have ordered two (and forgot about them until they showed up on my doorstep) of the Funko Marvel I Am Groot Collector Corps box. Was this MCC box worth returning for? Here’s my unboxing and review…

[If you want to watch me half-blindly stumble through this unboxing in real-time, be sure to check out the video above. But for those who cannot endure that, read on for the written text version.]

The Disney+ I am Groot shorts won’t be released until tomorrow, but as usual, Funko is ahead of the game and ready to cash in early! Their I Am Groot box is an Amazon exclusive like all modern Funko Marvel Collector Corps subscription boxes, and is shipping out now.

Funko Marvel Collector Corps I Am Groot Exclusive POP Boxes

The box includes two Exclusive Funko POP Vinyls, and I can see one of them being popular with fans. Both boxes are pretty generic, with different numbers in the numbering sequence but without unique art. The packaging for the Collector Corps I Am Groot POP figures definitely feels a bit lazy and half-hearted.

Funko POP Surfing Groot I Am Groot Exclusive Figure

The first (and better) Exclusive POP is what I’m calling “Surfing Groot”. It’s got a very cute young Groot bobble head hanging ten atop a tubular pink “surfboard” of some sort.

Marvel Collector Corps Surfer Groot POP Vinyl Figure Back

With an appropriately delighted open-mouthed expression, Groot’s “board” is perched atop a stream of white bubbles. This is a really cute figure that’s just different enough from the billion previous Groot POPs to make me smile.

I Am Groot Marvel Collector Corps Baby Groot with Arms Funko POP

The other POP Exclusive is… not as good. As I have pretty low vision, I initially thought this was just another in a long line of “Baby Groot in a pot” releases. But—! That’s not quite what it is. In actuality, we’re seeing the transitional state of Baby Groot growing up and growing arms, with his pot cracking under the strain in the process.

Growing limbs must be an important moment in the life of a Groot, but I’m really not sure I needed (or wanted) a Funko Pop to commemorate the occasion. It’s “fine”, although I don’t expect that most collectors will go wild for this.

Collector Corps I am Groot POP Tees Shirt

Sometimes the T-Shirts you get in mystery boxes feel cheap and poorly made (particularly from something like Loot Crate), but Funko rarely disappoints in this regard. The I Am Groot shirt—featuring a bright and cheerful design of Groot holding an enormous bag of snacks—is well-printed, and has felt comfy and natural for the past day I’ve been wearing it after removing it from the box. Thumbs up.

I Am Groot Marvel Collector Corps Box Contents

Filling out the box are a metal pin of Groot with a hat and mustache made of leaves, along with a sticker of Groot with leaf hair and a dress of leaves. They’re cute and all, but I’ll have to make an effort to ever utilize these add-ons.

Funko I Am Groot Box Unboxing Spoilers Review

Overall: While I haven’t reviewed a Funko Marvel Collector Corps box in quite a while, the August 2022 I Am Groot box is a decent, if unspectacular, return box for me. I really like the Surfing Groot POP, and I think the Pop Vinyl of Baby Groot growing arms is adequate. The pin and sticker are fine for what they are, and I think the bright and colorful shirt of Groot carrying a bag of snacks is fun and comfortable. I don’t know that I wanted two of this I Am Groot box (in fact, I definitely don’t and will return the spare very soon), but I found this Marvel Collector Corps box solid and enjoyable to unbox overall.
