Of all the various toy lines that I cover on Marvel Toy News, the one that tends to be the most difficult is the Funko Hikari Marvel vinyls. See, Funko tends to announce its new Hikaris like clockwork every Friday–but there’s no warning when a new Marvel one will be revealed, and when one is, it’s typically sold out within hours. Such is the case with the two latest additions: Funko Hikari X-Force Deadpool and Inferno Iron Man!
But while the overproduced regular version of Groot Hikari and most of the oversized Spider-Man vinyls’ values have plummeted (I’ve seen Blaze Spider-Man discounted to as low as $25–$55 off the original price of $80 and the original Hikari Groot available for 50% off shipped), the new molds and more limited run size figures have been a bit hit so far.
Last week, the first Funko Hikari Iron Man figure–Inferno Iron Man–was announced around noon EST and was sold out on BBTS and EE by evening. This week, Hikari X-Force Deadpool was announced and sold out on all the big sites within two hours of being posted on each.
Despite having dozens and dozens of canonical armors and colorways to choose from, Funko picked the metallic red Inferno Iron Man Hikari as the first release of the Iron Man mold. I would’ve expected a Metallic or Glitter version of Iron Man first, personally. It’s certainly eye-grabbing, though–and folks must like it, because the LE 600 Inferno Iron Man sold out fast enough!
With a fairly large edition size of 1,000, I thought the Deadpool X-Force Hikari might hang around for a while. Nope! He sold out even faster than the Inferno Iron Man Hikari (despite Iron Man’s run size being even 600), a real testament to the superior popularity of Deadpool as a character these days.
Ebay is the best source for the sold-out X-Force Deadpool Hikari and Inferno Iron Man Hikari at this point, as you can still snag pre-orders for both figures for under their retail price of $79.99. And yes–because I am a total crack addict when it comes to Hikari, I’ve already got both figures locked in on pre-order.
Thoughts on the fast sell-outs of the Marvel Funko Hikari line, Marvel collectors? Is the growing market and rarity for these Hikari making them more desirable for you, or are you just not willing to spring for 8″ $80 figures with three points of articulation, no matter how beautiful they may be?
I need both of these!
