Marvel Legends 20th Anniversary Hulk Figure & X-Men Legends 2022 Series Revealed!

Hasbro brought their A-game for the final Hasbro Pulse Marvel stream of the year, debuting far more than just the Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness wave during the event. Not only did Hasbro reveal and open pre-orders for the exclusive Marvel Legends 20th Anniversary Hulk figure (no Toad just yet, sadly), but they also surprise-debuted all eight figures in the X-Men Legends 2022 series as well—including Siryn, First Appearance Sabretooth, the Bonebreaker Build-A-Figure and more!

Marvel Legends 2022 Figures X-Men Series & 20th Anniversary Hulk Figures

Given that Hasbro has released like a zillion green Hulk Legends figures over the years, I’m sure it wasn’t easy for them to think up something “special” to come for the obligatory 29th Anniversary Marvel Legends Hulk figure.

What they ultimately settled on celebrates the history of Marvel Legends without reinventing the wheel by including a Toybiz-styled deluxe diorama base with Hasbro’s best Hulk figure mold (with two new heads).

Marvel Legenda Hulk 20th Anniversary Figure and Accessories

The new portraits look swell, but the real prize here is that rocky base. I love the concept of Hulk being able to cause a shockwave by punching down the ground or stomping on the base, and the idea has been lovingly executed here by Hasbro.

20th Anniversary Marvel Legends Hulk Packaged

With a faux-comic backdrop for the package, fists and interchangeable grasping hands, a severed Mandroid head to crush and a sculpted Marvel Legends logo, this is a very cool deluxe Hulk action figure (albeit not a revolutionary one).

Marvel Legends Return of Wolverine Figure with Hot Claws
“Return of Wolverine” Wolverine

After coming back from being dead in “The Return of Wolverine”, Wolverine had a new wrinkle added to his power-set: super-heated “hot claws” heated by his own rage and excess healing energy from his super-charged healing factor! The “hot claws” were quickly and vocally hated by fans and completely eschewed by Jonathan Hickman for his House of X era comic books, but now fans can immortalize this much-panned Wolverine power forever with a dedicated 6” Marvel Legends action figure! (Hey, if we had to have another Wolverine Legends figure—and we are due–at least this one is a little different and unique.)

2022 Marvel Legends X-Men Sabretooth 1st Appeaance Figure

1st Appearance Sabretooth

Victor Creed wasn’t always a roided-out hulking brute. Way back when in his debut in the Iron Fist comic book series, Sabretooth was quite a bit thinner and less hulking than he had been depicted over the last couple decades. So while fans will be waiting a while longer for a beefy Sabretooth figure on the Omega Red buck, they’ll be getting this fun throwback Sabretooth Legends figure instead next spring.

This figure reminds me a lot of the original 5” Toybiz Sabretooth aesthetically, which hits enough nostalgia chords to earn my dollars.

2022 X-Men Marvel Legends Maggott Figure

Maggot

Though Maggot is one of the least popular X-Men ever, I’ve loved the Joe Kelly-created character since his 1997 debut and have been jonesin’ for a toy of him since Toybiz canceled theirs after showing the prototype over two decades ago.

X-Men Legends Maggott Figure with Eeny and Meany Slugs

For some reason a lot of peeps loathe Maggott and his digestive system slugs, Eeny and Meany, but I love this random and rarely-used member of the X-Men. It’s a joy and a treat to see Japheth finally getting action figure love after nearly 25 years. Way to go, Hasbro. Love this.

X-Men Darwin Marvel Legends 2022 Figure

Darwin

I’m a little less enthused about the first-ever toy of Darwin, a character I would have thought for sure would have gotten a figure after appearing in X-Men: First Class years ago. Darwin is okay, and he grew on me during his tenure as part of Peter David’s X-Factor and during the current Hickman era comics, but his figure still looks a little bland to me.

Overall, I’m happy to get a toy of the rapidly-evolving mutant, even if it’s not especially flashy or exciting to look at.

2022 X-Men Legends Vulcan Figure

Vulcan

Joining Darwin from the “Deadly Genesis” team of X-Men is the long-lost Summers brother, Vulcan.

Gabriel Summers is a pretty hate-able guy, but I totally love the new body mold he’s getting that Hasbro is sure to reuse for dozens upon dozens of future characters. The new body looks great, and I think we’ll see a proper “Emperor Vulcan” toy down the road still.

2022 X-Men Legends Havok Six Inch Figure

Havok

Speaking of Summers brothers, here’s an updated Marvel Legends version of Alex Summers himself: Havok!

Marvel Legends 2022 Havok Effects Piece Cosmic Energy Circles Attachment

We’ve had classic-ish ML Havok figures before, but this one is set apart by the best circular cosmic energy effects Alex has ever gotten, which really brings this toy’s aesthetic to a whole new level. I would have preferred a Hellions Havok with slightly smaller “forehead jewel”, but this is one of the 2022 Marvel Legends figures I’m most psyched for regardless.

Marvel Legends Siryn 2022 X-Men Figure Bonebreaker Series

Siryn

Theresa Cassidy has waited 40 years for a mass release action figure, and her patience has run out! The daughter of Banshee will finally fly into stores next year, leaving Ferral as the sole core 90s X-Force member needed to complete the Marvel Legends X-Force lineup.

The cloth cape looks nice and this is an absolute must-have for X-Force fans, but I really hope we see another version eventually with screaming head and sonic scream effects piece. So good to finally, finally get this character in plastic form, though.

Marvel Legends Bonebreaker Build-A-Figure 2022 X-Men Series

Bonebreaker Build-A-Figure
The Reavers’ tank-man cyborg, Bonebreaker, is one of those cool-looking characters I have less than zero interest in character-wise. As the Build-A-Figure of the 2022 X-Men Legends wave, I think Bonebreaker is fine. X-Men characters can generally sell quite well individually without the need for a strong BAF to promote sales, which allows for some quirky choices like this one.

I passed on the basic Toybiz X-Men 5” figure of this character hundreds of times as a kid in the 90s, so it is a tad surreal to see a perpetual peg warmer back as the “carrot” to promote sales of a wave.

Bonebreaker BAF Marvel Legends Reavers 2022 Hasbro

While the Bonebreaker BAF doesn’t have working tank treads, his sunglasses can be swiveled up and down at least to expose his eyes or not. It’s a neat feature for an overall fun toy of a character unlikely to ever get another piece of merch after this one. For anyone who ever wanted a definitive Bonebreaker figure for their collection, this is the one—don’t miss it.

Marvel Legends 20th Hulk Rock Base DioramaThe Marvel Legends 2023 X-Men Bonebreaker series should be up for order online in the next couple months, and is scheduled for release in spring 2022.

What do you think of Hasbro’s choices for next year, X-Men fans? Which of these figures will (or won’t!) be on your 2022 shopping lists?

Marvel Legends 20th Anniversary Hulk Figure & X-Men Legends 2022 Series Revealed! — 10 Comments

  1. There was a tease at the end of the stream about a backpack. I feel like I should know what that was about, but I can’t piece it together. Any help?

Very happy about Siryn. We still need Feral, and I’d love them to take a run at Stryfe and the MLF, but I’m glad we’re getting closer

  2. At last, a proper Sabretooth. Iron Fist had better get ready.

I’d get Havok also, but I already have him. Would just be for the cool new effects pieces.

  3. “at least this one is a little different and unique” So close to the Wolverine figure I actually wanted, I wanted the armored gun wielding wolverine from when he was mortal. Leading up to his death, rather then after the fact.

  4. I’m dying to know what they are all packaged with.
I’ll bet Siryn is packaged with an alternate screaming head.
Hopefully Vulcan has come post effects that aren’t just those awkward fireballs that came with Pyro…though they kinda do work. Hopefully maybe at least one with the energy flowing out of his eyes too.
Havok: Absolute yes. Those effects: Beautiful. I can’t wait!
Darwin looks great. Doesn’t really have any flash or “oomph!” to him, but he definitely gets a passing grade and meets the assignment. However, now that they are making Vulcan and Darwin, I want them to make Petra and Sway too.
Sabretooth looks great, but I definitely am someone that wants him made on a bigger mold too. That BAF/Deluxe Venom mold is my ideal for a Sabretooth figure.
Maggot looks great…even if his power is cringe.
    Hahahaha!
    🤣

The rest of the figures? Meh.

  5. I’m most excited for Maggot (how many S. African and late-90’s X-Men would we ever see), but I’m also excited for Siryn and Darwin. I hope to see a new Banshee since I haven’t been collecting long enough to have gotten him before. Of course, I would LOVE to see an eventual Marrow and Cecilia Reyes someday.

  6. – Bonebreaker is the big draw for me here!
    – Siryn’s face looks weird. Yes, she’d better come with an alternate screaming head.
    – I’d get Havok for his effects piece, but my X-display is primarily 90’s so the jacketed X-Factor version already has Alex covered.
    – Vulcan…. I kinda hate as a character. I can’t fault Hasbro for the boring, generic design, but they did choose Vulcan to be the inaugural use of the new buck, so he has that going for him.
    – As for the rest… Maggot was introduced in that era that made me lose interest in comics, so I have a personal dislike for characters from that time. No association with that version of Wolverine and Darwin, and that Sabretooth head just doesn’t look like the character at all.

So overall, this is a rare X-wave where figures I don’t want outnumber those that I do, which means I’m probably not getting Bonebreaker. 🙁

Also, that Hulk head sucks. That’s not the classic look of the character, never mind the elevated price tag.

  7. I will definitely be getting the X-Men wave . Since the bulk of my collection is mutants . The Hulk Im not to sure about . The head sculpt is blah .

  8. Siryn! Hell YES! So excited for her! And Maggot has a peculiar charm to him … But I agree, a Cecilia Reyes figure and Marrow are now required to help flesh out that era of X-Men, unpopular though it may have been. But while I’m waiting for them, I’ll take a Captain Britain Elizabeth Braddock and Cypher, please.
