Marvel Minimates Series 51 Steve Rogers Revealed at C2E2 2013!

We’ve known the lineup for Marvel Minimates Series 51 by Diamond Select Toys for quite a while. Based on “Marvel NOW!”, the set features characters like the new Nova (Sam Alexander), Maria Hill, Nick Fury Jr. (don’t ask), and Shanna the She-Devil. We saw all high-resolution photos of all those figures weeks ago. But Diamond Select Toys had one card left to play, and they flipped it at C2E2 2013 in Chicago over the weekend: the reveal of the Marvel Minimates Wave 51 Captain America Steve Rogers Minimate figure!

Marvel Minimates Wave 51 Captain America with Hard Light Shield

Okay, so you might be saying to yourself: “I know the lineup for Marvel Minimates Series 51, and Captain America isn’t in it.” And on the surface, that is true–the complete lineup for the series is the Superior Spider-Man with Sam Alexander Nova, Shanna the She-Devil with a Reaper (basically Sauron–again, don’t ask), Nick Fury Jr. with a Heavy SHIELD Agent, and a variant set with Maria Hill and a Heavy SHIELD Agent. No Cap.

Marvel Minimates Series 51 Steve Rogers Super Soldier Figure C2E2 2013But–BUT!!–less-publicized than that official lineup for the series is the fact that the Minimate Nick Fury Jr. figure will come with a couple of additional pieces: an unmasked Captain America Steve Rogers head, and a Captain America shield! These were shown over the weekend at the 2013 C2E2 in Chicago, Illinois. The shield is made of translucent plastic to represent the hard light energy shield that Captain America wielded while he acted as Steve Rogers Super-Soldier, director of SHIELD.

Steve Rogers Super Soldier Comic Book CoverThis has been one of the more requested Marvel Minimates variants of a major Marvel hero that hasn’t been produced yet, and I’m frankly shocked that Diamond Select Toys is going to straight-up give us the Steve Rogers head packed in with Nick Fury Jr. for free. I have no great love for Nick Fury Junior (sorry, I just couldn’t buy into 616 Nick Fury having a son that looks like Samuel Jackson), so I’ll be popping the Captain America Steve Rogers Super-Soldier Minimate pieces onto Nick Fury Jr. straight out of the package.
