It’s raining Iron Man… Hallelujah! As you may have heard, a movie called “Iron Man 3” set international box office records over the weekend and will be opening in the United States this Friday. To celebrate the arrival of this movie, an avalanche of merchandise has been released, comprised mostly of Tony Stark Iron Man figures. But today Hot Toys announced another Iron Man 3 Movie Masterpiece Series Diecast figure, and it’s the second that’s not Tony Stark. In fact, this armor isn’t in the Iron Man 3 movie at all: it’s the Iron Man 3 Hot Toys War Machine Mark 2…

Jim Rhodes donned the War Machine armor in Iron Man 2 to the delight of Marvel Comics fans everywhere, and War Machine instantly became nearly as popular as Iron Man himself. So it went without saying that War Machine would return in this year’s Iron Man 3 film. Except, well… he doesn’t.

While the Iron Man 3 marketing blitz includes a plethora of images of the War Machine Mark II armor and there’s a ton of cool merchandise of the War Machine Mark 2 (including a nice Kotobukiya ArtFX Statue and an awesome Marvel Select War Machine figure), the armor doesn’t actually appear in the Iron Man 3 film. Instead, the armor appears only in the Marvel Iron Man 3 Prelude comic books, in which it’s explained that Tony Stark couldn’t cope with the bulky Hammer tech on the original War Machine armor, and thus refitted it into the War Machine Mark II seen everywhere.

Though the newly-redesigned War Machine Mark 2 armor doesn’t appear in the Iron Man 3 movie, Hot Toys (probably correctly) assumed that there would be enough interest in the suit to warrant a Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Diecast Series figure, and thus this Hot Toys Iron Man 3 War Machine Mark 2 was created.

This particular release is a lot more spartan accessory-wise than other Movie Masterpiece figures, as alternate hands are the only accessory included. Sorry, no extra weapons or Don Cheadle head–nothing. While this is a little disappointing, it also means that there’s a good chance this will be the first MMS Diecast figure priced at under $300 (Hallelujah for real).

There will be a War Machine Mark II Exclusive Edition/Special Edition figure versions released, which will include another in the series of Hot Toys Holographic transparent Iron Man armor figures. In the United States, this War Machine Exclusive Edition will only be available via Sideshow Collectibles.

As the Iron Man 3 Hot Toys War Machine Mark 2 has now been fully revealed and previewed by Hot Toys, the pre-order for the figure (and its exclusive edition) should be imminent.
