One of the best things about Diamond Select Toys’ Marvel Select action figures line is that DST regularly reissues older figures from the line, thus giving new collectors a chance to collect Marvel Select figures that have been out of print (sometimes for years) without having to max out their credit card bill. Sometimes Diamond Select makes character choices to reissue that are sensational, and sometimes the picks are less exciting. The impending 2014 reissues of Marvel Select Captain Marvel and Spider-Woman fall into the more boring latter category…

In February 2014, the Marvel Select Ultimate Hulk will be returning to stores for the first time in a while. Ultimate Hulk had been off the market and was getting decently pricey ($50 and up) on the aftermarket to pick up, so a plethora of collectors were ecstatic about Diamond Select Toys’ announcement that Ultimate Hulk Marvel Select action figure was getting a reissue.

Spider-Woman and Captain Marvel…? Not so much.

I’ve got nothing again Spider-Woman or the classic Captain Marvel, but I’m surprised to see these two particular figures chosen to return to stores at this time. While the variant editions of these figures (the Marvel Select Arachne Julia Carpenter Spider-Woman and Marvel Select Genis-Vell Captain Marvel) are in pretty high demand on the aftermarket, there’s not been a whole lot of outcry by fans for reissues of the Kree Captain Marvel and Spider-Woman Marvel Select figures.

Replenishing older figures before all stock is totally sold through does keep the prices down on certain Marvel Select figures, but it seems weird to be to do a new production run on figures like Spider-Woman and Captain Marvel who typically sell below retail price on the current market, while there are plenty of in-demand figures like Phoenix, Emma Frost and The Watcher that seemingly “deserve” a reissue first. Heck, you can get the regular Marvel Select Captain Marvel figure on Amazon right now for $18 with free shipping, $7 cheaper than the re-release coming next year!

The Marvel Select Spiderwoman and Captain Marvel action figure reissues are scheduled to hit stores in early 2014, although the variants of the characters are not expected to return as well. While these are not the most thrilling re-releases ever announced, both action figures are extremely nice and probably the best toy representations of the classic Captain Marvel and Spider-Woman characters. With the re-releases on the way, prices should be cheap for both characters throughout 2014, so definitely check these figures out if you have any love for either character.
