It’s been a long 19 months since it first debuted at pre-global pandemic New York Toy Fair 2020, but the most iconic member of the Nova Corps is finally ready to fly in as part of the Diamond Select Toys September 2020 solicitations: the Marvel Gallery Nova PVC statue is now up for order! And Richard Rider won’t be the only new value-priced fan favorite Marvel statue —the Gentle Giant Skottie Young styled Marvel Animated Scarlet Witch statue is also on the way!

New York Comic Con 2021 is fast approaching in just under 3 weeks—and it can’t come soon enough for me, as it’ll be the first major public event with toy and collectible news I’ve attended since the 2020 Toy Fair back in February 2020.

But while it’s been the better part of two years now since NY Toy Fair 2020, that doesn’t mean everything that premiered there at the show has been released already. In fact, one of the stragglers finally just got solicited today after nineteen months of waiting: the Marvel Gallery Nova statue by Diamond Select Toys!

I’ve been a fan of the diverse selection of characters that DST puts out medium-sized statues of at crazy-low prices ever since the line debuted around a half decade ago now (time flies), and I was excited to see Richard Rider Nova make his at-event debut back in February 2020. The pandemic clearly through the initial plans for this piece out the window, but Rich is blasting in now at last.

Sculpted by Sam Greenwell, the Marvel Gallery Nova figure is 12” tall and features Rich Rider Nova hovering above a diorama base, surrounded by crackling blue energy effects. The costume choice here is definitely on the classic side, but I’d love to see a modern/Annihilation era Nova statue released down the road (preferably as a resin statue) as well.

The terrain base itself is grey and cratered, giving it a moon-like appearance that seems fitting for a superhero who’s often out defending Earth and other worlds from cosmic threats. For a PVC statue priced under 50 bucks, this is quite nice, in my opinion.

Likewise, one of my other favorite long-running Marvel statue lines also has a new addition in the September 2021 Diamond Select Toys solicits: the Skottie Young Marvel Babies inspired line of Marvel Animated statues (which is technically a Gentle Giant Ltd. series, but they are owned now by DST).

This new resin mini statue is actually one that’s never been seen before: a Marvel Animated Scarlet Witch statue! Based off of the Skottie Young artwork of her in Giant Size Little Marvel: AVX, this has to be the most psycho and dangerous-looking statue of Wanda I’ve ever seen—chibi art style or not!

A Skottie Young Vision statue came out nearly five years ago now, so it’ll be nice to finally have a Skottie Wanda Maximoff to display alongside Vision (as well as Captain America, Iron Man, Doctor Strange and the many other complementary characters Gentle Giant/Diamond Select Toys have released over the years). Hyped!

The Marvel Animated Scarlet Witch statue and Marvel Gallery Nova figure are both up for order now, and are scheduled to arrive in early 2022. Wanda is limited to 3000 pieces, whereas Nova doesn’t have an edition size and could be reprinted down the road if he sells well and DST sees continued demand for him.
