There aren’t very many major action figure companies in existence today that can manage to get a high-profile Marvel figure through development and up for sale without any forewarning whatsoever, but that’s a feat that Diamond Select Toys has pulled off today! While there’s still no Amazing Spider-Man 2 Marvel Select Electro or Green Goblin forthcoming (nor are any expected to be), a new Amazing Spider-Man 2 Marvel Select figure is now up for sale: Marvel Select Unmasked Spider-Man!

While there was no formal announcement of this Unmasked Amazing Spider-Man 2 Marvel Select figure ahead of time, this is a Marvel Select variant that I’m sure plenty of folks (myself included) were expecting to pop up at some point. The Disney Stores and the Marvel Shop have made minor variants of movie Marvel Select figures their stock-in-trade, and this is definitely an easy variant that fits that modus operandi.

The big selling-point of this new Marvel Select exclusive Unmasked Spider-Man figure is of course the extra Andrew Garfield Spider-Man head sculpt. Anyone who had fears of Diamond Select Toys reusing the head from the original Amazing Spider-Man Unmasked Andrew Garfield variant figure (from the first move) can put those fears to rest now: DST has created an all-new and far better head sculpt for this Marvel Select Amazing Spider-Man 2 Unmasked Spider-Man variant.

Is this the greatest Andrew Garfield likeness in the history of the world…? Not really–but I can definitely see a resemblance in the sculpt, and considering that there’s literally zero other unmasked Amazing Spider-Man 2 figures out there, this one has no competition for setting the bar.

Of course, in order to make sure that this Marvel Select exclusive Unmasked Spider-Man doesn’t replace collectors’ needs to buy the regular versions, it is (of course) missing some items that the regular Marvel Select Amazing Spider-Man 2 figures include. You’ll get no fireman’s hat or hose with this figure, nor will you get the base that comes with the second release of the Amazing Spider-Man 2 Marvel Select action figure.

Ordinarily the Disney Store and Marvel Shop share exclusives, but thus far only the Marvel Shop has the unmasked Marvel Select Spider-Man exclusive up for sale. I’d assume the online and physical Disney Stores will have this figure soon as well, but at this time Diamond Select Toys hasn’t confirmed that.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Marvel Select Unmasked Spider-Man figure is now available through the online Marvel Shop.
