Marvel movie figures have been hogging the Marvel Select spotlight for the past few months, but this summer Diamond Select Toys has an all-new comic book-based Marvel Select action figure coming our way. This isn’t going to be for everyone (and certainly not for the squeamish, non-horror fans like me), but if you’re into the macabre, the Marvel Select Zombie Magneto figure from the Marvel Zombies comics that is now up for order may be right up your alley!
It’s sad to say, but poor Zombie Magneto is just not going to get too many dates with that less-than-handsome face (and, you know–the fact that he’s an undead zombie). The sculpting and paint on the 2014 Marvel Select Zombie Magneto action figure are to the usual excellent standard of Diamond Select Toys’ Marvel Select line, and I love that Green Goblin has even dropped by to lend Magneto a hand (yes, I know–I should die for that joke).
Personally, I’ve got no use for a Marvel Zombies Magneto action figure, sadly. I don’t like zombies in any form, and even if I did want to collect Marvel Select Marvel Zombies figures, the three previously released Marvel Select Marvel Zombies all sell for $40-$70 on the aftermarket. No thank you. I know Diamond Select Toys is limited by the fact that Disney will only allow Marvel Zombies Villains toys and collectibles and no heroes, but not being able to get the characters people actually associate with Marvel Zombies puts a real damper on all new merch being released.
Furthermore, I feel like Zombie Magneto is again a particularly odd character that Diamond Select Toys keeps choosing to focus on. According to the comic books, Magneto is a human in the Marvel Zombies world who then gets devoured by zombies (as seen in the first Marvel Zombies TPB, which scarred me for life).
Other than appearing on a really cool cover, the Magneto Zombie character is totally inconsequential in the comics. I didn’t mind a $3 Zombie Magneto Minimates figure, but I don’t know if many people will bite for a $25 action figure of this character (no pun intended).
The Zombie Magneto Marvel Select figure is now available for pre-order, and is expected to be released by September 2014. The non-movie Marvel Select figures do often show up a bit early, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Zombie Magneto action figure ship in August 2014 instead.
I’m really curious how many collectors out there are excited for this Marvel Select Zombie Magneto figure, and how many are totally disinterested. What are your thoughts on the newest addition to the Marvel Select line, Marvel fans? Are more Marvel Zombies Villains something you’re hoping for in the future of the Marvel Select action figures line?
Got it on pre order! have the other Marvel Select Zombies and i hope the line becomes even more gruesome and popular than ever …
thanks Walking Dead !!!
My only complaint, they should release some female characters or two more villians?
Could this be the beginning of the Marvel Apocalypse?
I am disappointed that new X men characters from this line are rarely released and when they are, we get stuff like this. I would love a really well sculpted Jim lee style Rogue instead. A classic Beast, Archangel, Psylocke, Apocalypse , Bishop, Mystique, the list goes on. So many missed opportunities.
I love these selects kinda, pretty cool I thought. Not so much all the characters they have chosen so far. Pretty disappointed and way to typical and why only 3 for so long, till now. a. I do wish they would come out with Wolverine, Iron Man,The Thing,Gambit,Sliver Surfer, Colossus,Cyclops,etc.. also put in more bloody looking packaging and maybe a few more accessories, more zombie parts or Make a two pack fight scene with characters. I notice No company really makes any really good fight packs anymore and be nice to seeing something like that in this see the hulk ripping someone in half pack would be pretty cool pack. I just want to see more action in the packaging since I don’t open mine. just saying cause if they expect me to pay the hundreds on some of these toys I see out there bring a little more then the usual. cuase its getting outrageous for some and what they are.
