Most of the exhibitors at New York Comic Con 2014 put out all of their new Marvel collectibles on the first day of the show, but at least one company held something glorious back in reserve. Diamond Select Toys had a great booth and display case full of Marvel toys when NYCC 2014 opened, but the display case got even better later on in the show, when an all-new wave of Marvel Minimates figures appeared–the Marvel Minimates Wave 60 Classic X-Men and Brotherhood of Evil Mutants series!
UPDATE: Marvel Minimates Wave 60 is now up for order!
But once DST put Marvel Minimates Series 60 out in the display case at New York Comic Con 2014, all those assumptions vanished in a bamf of smoke!
Marvel Minimates Wave 60 is scheduled to include the following four two-packs:
- Marvel Minimates Wave 60 Wolverine (with Minimates Forge parts) vs. Blob
- Marvel Minimates Wave 60 Storm (with Minimates Psylocke parts) vs. Avalanche
- Marvel Minimates Wave 60 Banshee (with Minimates Gambit parts) vs. Pyro
- Marvel Minimates Wave 60 Jubilee (with alternate head) vs. Destiny
A Marvel Minimates Banshee figure has been at the top of many collectors’ wish lists for years, so it’s pretty exciting to see the first-ever Banshee Minimates figure finally flying in this winter. The Minimates Forge is also an all-new X-Men character for the Minimates line, and brings us one step closer to having a complete classic X-Men lineup in Minimates form. Way to go, Diamond Select!
And although they’ve been released before as Marvel Minimates figures, Gambit, Jubilee and Psylocke are all tough-to-find figures that a lot of collectors are going to be thrilled to see get new versions as part of the Marvel Minimates Wave 60 series.
The extra pieces will include an alternate torso for Minimates Avalanche, alternate arms and legs for Minimates Blob, and an alternate unmasked head for Minimates Destiny. With all of these alternate pieces and display options, this just might end up being my legit favorite Marvel Minimates series ever!
The placard at the 2014 New York Comic Con said that Marvel Minimates Series 60 is due out for release in Winter 2014, but seeing as how it’s currently October and the figures haven’t even been solicited yet, I think it’s far more likely that they’ll arrive in early 2015 instead.
Marvel Minimates Series 60 will be available for pre-order online from all of the usual retailers, and will be sold in physical comic book and specialty stores as well. No complementary Toys R Us assortment containing any of the characters from this set has been announced at this time, and honestly doesn’t seem very likely. If you want any of these Marvel Minimates Brotherhood of Evil Mutants or Classic X-Men characters, online and specialty stores are likely the only way to go.
Are you excited to fill in some of the biggest gaps in the X-Men corner of the Marvel Minimates universe with Marvel Minimates Wave 60, Marvel collectors? Or are you ready for Diamond Select Toys to move on and concentrate on some other areas of the Marvel comics world, such as Avengers or cosmic heroes?
Well, this is awesome, but I really feel bad for X-Men fans, having to get 2x the villains to get all the x-men.
Henry, don’t worry… There are a lot of Marvel fans who will want the Brotherhood but not the X-Men figures packed in with them. I plan to sell off my extra set (or sets) of villains.
Others may just keep theirs for customization, something Minimates lend themselves to readily.
With this set you can finally use the gliding arms of Banshee and Storm’s torso to help make the well neglected x-force character Siryn. Now all we need is an awesome classic Toad minimate and I will feel my Brotherhood minimates line will be complete.
