While Hasbro beat everyone out of the gate by revealing their own Marvel Legends Gladiator Hulk Build-A-Figure a few weeks back, other collectibles companies are finally ready to start pushing their own Thor Ragnarok merchandise as SDCC 2017 begins tonight! And not only will Diamond Select Toys be showing off their latest movie toys at the con–their Marvel Gallery Gladiator Hulk and Valkyrie statues have now gone up for order!
But mid-way through summer and with the movie just around the corner, now it’s finally time! Surprisingly, the first Thor Ragnarok Marvel Gallery statues to be shown aren’t Hulk and Thor, though–they’re Hulk and… Valkyrie!
Logically, I would assume that DST will be announcing a Gladiator Thor as a companion piece to this Hulk sometime soon (if not tonight), as it seems pretty crazy that we wouldn’t get a new Marvel Gallery Thor statue as part of the Thor line.
That said, the Marvel Gallery Gladiator Hulk statue is a pretty impressive piece in its own right. The original Gallery Hulk PVC statue is one of my least-favorite figures in the entire line, but this new version improves by leaps and bounds and looks absolutely fantastic for the price.
At 12″ tall, the Gladiator Hulk Marvel Gallery statue is quite a bit bigger than the other statues in the line–but he also comes with an extra $5 on his MSRP, giving him the highest price in the series to date at $49.99. Even with the price increase, I maintain that the Marvel Gallery series is the best deal in the whole statue market these days.
The 9″ Marvel Gallery Valkyrie statue also looks pretty nice to me–for the most part. I don’t think that the painted PVC does a very good job of capturing Tessa Thompson’s face, but the Valkyrie costume and the colored steps base both look terrific to me.
Valkyrie has the standard $44.99 MSRP that every figure in the line besides Gladiator Hulk has been priced at, but I think I’m going to have to wait and see how I like this character in the movie before I decide if this low-priced statue (likely the only one we’ll get of this character) is for me.
The Marvel Gallery Thor Ragnarok PVC statues are now up for order, and are scheduled to be shipped out in January 2018. DST only prints their MCU movie statues for one year, so these pieces will be far more limited and less “evergreen” than the comic-based ones are, so don’t wait too too long to order these if you’re concerned about missing out. BBTS and Woozy Moo are each offering both figures at $5 off right now for pre-orders as well.
Who out there has been dabbling in collecting Diamond Select Toys’ Marvel Gallery line? Have you been pleased with the quality of the statues you’ve gotten so far, and are you adding Thor 3 Hulk and/or Valkyrie to your shopping list for this year?
Kinda funny to have Valkyrie and Hulk getting figures announced ahead of the actual headlining character. They both look great though.
Any idea when exclusive marvel legends will be up for sale on they’re perspective sites?
How much will the Mezco gladiator hulk cost?
They haven’t announced that yet. It’s almost certain he’ll cost more than the usual $80 figures, though.
