Earlier this week I talked about the triad of new offerings from Diamond Select Toys’ latest solicitations, but I need to backtrack and discuss a trio of very popular collectibles being reissued as well: Marvel Select Advanced Suit Spider-Man, Marvel Gallery Emma Frost and the Animated Deadpool statue! Let’s take a look at these previously sold out pieces…
A few months prior to the launch of the first Sony PS4 Spider-Man video game, Diamond Select Toys put a GamerVerse Spider-Man Select figure in the game’s Advanced Suit up for pre-orders. The PS4 game went on to be a colossal smash hit, and most toys and collectibles based on it sold like wildfire and escalated in price on the secondary market. The Marvel Select GamerVerse Spider-Man action figure is one such item, with prices of the toy even crossing the $100+ threshold.
With the recent release of the Sony Spider-Man 2 game, demand for Advanced Suit Spidey merch is at a high again, and DST is not letting this opportunity pass by. Marvel Select Video Game Spider-Man is swinging back in this summer, allowing fans to acquire the 7” figure for a fraction of the prices it’s sold for the last few years.
This is a straight reissue of the 2018 figure, with the same alternate hands and web effects, so anyone who missed that figure should be able to fully plug that hole in their collection with this release.
This is actually the third go-around for the 12” Diamond Form Emma Frost Gallery figure, as it was first released in 2019 as a GameStop exclusive and then later as a general release item (alongside a sweet Longshot Gallery PVC that was eventually cancelled). Despite these prior distributions, Gallery Emma remains sold out via retailers and often expensive on the aftermarket.
Despite being more limited, the non-Diamond Emma Gallery statue that was only released as a Free Comic Book Day exclusive is actually somewhat cheaper and more obtainable second-hand today, so the Diamond variant was definitely the right choice to be reissued. Good job, Diamond Select Toys. A lot of X-Men fans will be thrilled to get a shot at Emma for MSRP alongside new releases such as Cyclops, Gambit and Rogue.
Finally, we’re getting a re-release of the second Skottie Young Marvel Animated Deadpool statue. Along with being the largest and most expensive resin statue in the Marvel Babies themed line, this is also the only unnumbered, non-limited piece in the whole series, so this reissue is fair game.
The first Animated Deadpool mini statue is a weird stuffed animal-looking version (shown above), so I definitely think it’s a good move to get a more “traditional” styled Deadpool back into circulation before Deadpool 3 hits theaters this summer. The “Mercs for Hire” booth that spoofs Lucy from Charlie Brown was and is a super fun design.
All three of these new restocks are up for pre-order now and scheduled to arrive this summer. Any of you Marvel collectors pass on one of these in the past and happy to get another chance to snag them for retail price?
