Femme Fatales Captain Marvel Statue Up for Order!

Diamond Select Toys has begun dominating the market as far as low-priced plastic statues of female characters go. From DC Comics to Star Trek to independents, DST has been expanding their female statue line territory. And now, they’re ready to move on to the most popular line of comic characters on Earth–the Marvel Femme Fatales Captain Marvel statue is now up for order!

Diamond Select announced during the summer that they were expanding their popular line of Femme Fatales female statues to encompass the Marvel Universe, and true to their word, the first entry in the line has arrived: Carol Danvers Captain Marvel!

With the impending Captain Marvel movie hitting theaters in just a few years, it’s no surprise that DST has chosen Marvel future most high-profile woman to kick off this new female-only line.

While Kotobukiya has released several versions of Carol Danvers in the past, they’ve never tackled her now-iconic modern Captain Marvel costume, making this an all-around excellent selection as the very first statue in this line.

Sculpted by Alejandro Pereira, this statue will come in a full-color window box like previous releases from DST’s other Femme Fatales themes. And standing at 9″ tall overall and costing just $39.99, the Diamond Select Captain Marvel statue is an outstanding value for its price compared to most other plastic statues on the market.

Not every collector can afford the $65 and up line of Koto Bishoujo Marvel statues, and certainly not every collector can afford the $400+ Sideshow Premium Format statues and even more expensive XM Studios pieces. So I think that these Marvel Femmes Fatales Diamond Select Toys will be producing are a nicely-priced lower-end statue for those collecting on a budget.

I think the Femme Fatales Carol Danvers statue looks mostly great, as her pose looks powerful without being overly sexualized in the manner that many Bishoujo statues are. And while it’s nothing fancy, the yellow-orange Captain Marvel symbol base that the statue mounted on actually looks really classy and appropriate for this character–I like it!

The one aspect of this figure that I really do dislike is her eyes–I think DST has put way too much eyeshadow and dark lines around Carol’s eyes, which is making her look a little, well… psychotic. I know this art style is sometimes uses for Carol in the comics (in fact, she looked this was in The Ultimates #1 just last week), but it’s not to my aesthetic taste at all. Hopefully the eyes will look better in-person, but I don’t like them on the prototype at all.

Captain Marvel Femme Fatales StatueThe Captain Marvel Femme Fatales statue is now available for order, and is scheduled to be released in April 2016. As the first release in the Femme Fatales Marvel statue line, I’m very intrigued to see how well this Carol Danvers sells, as it ought to be a decent gauge of the future popularity of the line as a whole.

What are your initial thoughts on the new Diamond Select Femme Fatales Marvel line? Based off the first entry in the line, how do you think this line stacks up against the Kotobukiya Bishoujo statues?
