After being one of the more expensive and sought-after Marvel Hot Toys sixth scale figures for years, the market has crashed on the Iron Man 2 War Machine MMS 120. That figure itself is still an excellent release, but the demand for that figure fell off a cliff after Hot Toys announced a die-cast version last month. And now, the superior remake is officially on the way–the Hot Toys Iron Man 2 Die-Cast War Machine is now up for order!
But while the wait for the popular Iron Man Mark VI remake is going to continue for a while longer, the arguably most popular armor from Iron Man 2 is now on its die-cast way: the original War Machine armor!
The original MMS120 War Machine figure has long been considered one of the best Hot Toys Marvel figures released, so many fans would have been satisfied with a straight-up release of that figure with some new die-cast parts.
But nope–Hot Toys went and upgraded numerous aspects of this figure to make it worth owning this Rhodey again even if you do already have the first version!
First up, Hot Toys has added an assortment of interchangeable battle-damaged War Machine armor pieces so that buyers can choose to display the armor in pristine or battle-worn condition. The battle-damaged parts added to this 1/6 figure look really great!
In addition, two of the only weaknesses of MMS 120 have been fixed for this new Iron Man 2 War Machine Die-Cast figure: the waist and ankle articulation have both been improved to allow for better and more dynamic poses. Thanks, Hot Toys!
Finally, a unique “Iron Man 2 Final Battle” figure display stand is also included with this piece, for reenacting the final battle with Iron Whiplash! I always like display bases that are unique and stand out a bit on the shelf, so this stand is a definite winner in my book.
Now that we’ve got both War Machine and Whiplash from Iron Man 2 in die-cast form, can the hotly-demanded Iron Man Mark 6 die-cast be far behind…?
The Iron Man 2 Hot Toys Die-Cast War Machine figure is now up for order, and is scheduled to ship out in the latter half of 2016. I started collecting Hot Toys after the original WM Mark I was already extravagantly-priced on the aftermarket and never got around to picking one up at inflated prices, so this new and improved War Machine Mark I is a definite instant purchase for me.
What do you think of the Hot Toys War Machine die-cast figure, Marvel collectors? If you missed the original release (like me), will you be picking this one up? And if you own the original, does this new iteration look good enough to make you want to upgrade?
I missed the original and will definitely get this.
Got the original and as much as i hate to to part with my money….
I gotta have this! I feel like its HT way of commemorating the death of Rhodey in the new Civil War movie.
If he were really dead I doubt they’d be putting it in the first trailer of all places.
Lil, you take this toy message board thing to serious…
