In what is absolutely certain to be one of the most controversial figures announced by Hot Toys this year, today the company announced another new entry in the Hot Toys Iron Man 3 figures series. You may have thought that Hot Toys had played all their cards at SDCC 2013 last week, but they had at least one more figure they were holding back. It’s the Iron Man 3 Hot Toys Tony Stark Mandarin Mansion Assault version sixth scale figure!
I’ve already heard a lot of grumbling about a second Tony Stark figure being released, but I can’t honestly say I have a problem with it. Robert Downey Jr. spent the vast majority of Iron Man 3 outside of his armors, so it only seems fair to get multiple Tony Stark Hot Toys 1/6 scale figures to complement the plethora of Iron Man 3 armors Hot Toys is giving us.
This particular Tony Stark is the Hot Toys Tony Stark Mandarin Mansion Assault version figure, based off the “questionable” scenes in Iron Man 3 where Tony Stark builds an arsenal out of parts from Home Depot (no, really) and decides to confront the Mandarin head-on in the Mandarin’s mansion. I’m not surprised the notion of a $200 Hot Toys figure of this version of Tony Stark is attracting some harsh opinions, but I think this could be a really fun figure and I’m looking forward to seeing it unveiled at the Hong Kong Ani-Com this week.
As Hot Toys has already announced that the Hot Toys Iron Man Tony Stark (Mandarin Mansion Assault Ver.) figure is scheduled to have pre-orders opened up during this month’s Hong Kong Ani-Com, we can reasonably assume that Sideshow Collectibles should have the new Tony Stark Hot Toys sixth scale figure available for pre-order within the next week. This particular figure sounds like it will have a Sideshow Exclusive Edition version available, so keep your eyes peeled. I’ll post an update here and on the Marvel Toy News Facebook page with pre-order links once the new Mandarin Mansion Assault Tony Stark Hot Toys 1/6 figure goes up for sale.
