One of the most poorly-kept 6″ Marvel Legends “secrets” of the year was that a classic Excalibur team set of some kind was on the way. Many fans assumed we’d be seeing a 5-Pack (or larger) to knock out the whole core team in one fell swoop, but it ends up that those guesses slightly missed the mark. Today, Hasbro officially revealed the upcoming Exclusive Marvel Legends Excalibur figures box set—including Captain Britain, Meggan and Shadowcat Kitty Pryde!
It’s been hinted and teased for the better part of this year that the Hasbro Marvel team was hard at work on something to do with the classic 90s Excalibur X-Men spin-off, and when a YouTuber was given a new Brian Braddock Captain Britain 6” figure to premiere yesterday, the writing was on the wall that Hasbro would finally be playing their cards during this week’s Hasbro Pulse Marvel Fan First Thursday livestream event.
And so, the sword was drawn today by Hasbro and the much-rumored set was revealed at last! Let’s have a look…
Already revealed earlier this week was a new, more classic Marvel Legends Captain Britain figure. The one we got in the Captain America Legends Abomination BAF wave a few years back was a nice figure, but clearly a modern interpretation, so I have no qualms at all about seeing a more iconic Brian Braddock here in plastic for this release.
Brian Braddock was packing a beard at points within the last 7 years of comic books, so I think it’s neat to get an interchangeable bearded portrait head sculpt with this release. If fans don’t like this head as Brian, they can also just say it’s another Captain Britain.
There’s no other real bells-and-whistles to this figure, although it does come with a Sword of Might (that looks kinda flimsy and “He-Man Power Sword”-like to me, but I’m glad it’s there nonetheless).
Joining Cap Britain is his wife and barefoot love of his life, the first-ever Marvel Legends Meggan figure! In fact, outside of a Minimates, I’m not sure Meggan has ever been done in action figure form by anybody ever before.
The smiling face and voluminous hair on Meggan are flat-out fantastic, and I agree with what the Hasbro design team said during the stream that fans would have complained if they’d gone for a less human look for Meggan.
Rounding out the 3-Pack is a Kitty Pryde figure I’ve been waiting all my life for: Marvel Legends Shadowcat Kitty Pryde in blue costume! Toyfare Magazine did a mailaway exclusive 5” Shadowcat Figure for the X-Men line way back in 1998 that stands up decently to this day as part of that line, but otherwise this is a costume never seen outside of a Marvel Minimates pack.
While I am *ALL* about a Red King Pirate Captain Kate Pryde figure from the current Hickman era of X-Men (it is absolutely in my top 10 wants right now), I’m still excited to get a proper 90s Excalibur Shadowcat figure. The facial expression and costume are dead-on, and I appreciate a more matte-repainted Lockheed pack-in figure than the one in the inaugural X-Men Legends wave (with the Juggernaut figure).
The back of the box features artwork from the vintage Skybox X-Men cards, which is a real blast from the past of nostalgia. I dig that Hasbro integrates recreations of these legendary cards’ artwork on the packaging when they can. Looks awesome.
Phoenix II Rachel Summers is obviously missing from this pack, which means the Excalibur core lineup is still incomplete (especially for those who missed the new Nightcrawler in 2019). Hasbro has promised they’ll get to a new Marvel Legends Rachel Summers as soon as possible (hopefully with unmasked and masked Hound heads and a fiery effects piece base), although she will require lots of new tooling because of all the spikes on her costume.
There was no specific pre-order date given for the Excalibur Legends 3-Pack, nor was it confirmed where the set would be available (other than on Hasbro Pulse itself), although one would think it would be a Fan Channel Exclusive available via BBTS, EE and other retailers. I’ll add more information on ordering details once Hasbro makes them available.
And there you have it: the long-rumored X-Men Legends Excalibur figures box set is a reality! What are your thoughts, Marvel collectors? Is this trio of figures everything you hoped for (besides Rachel Summers, obviously)? And are there any other Excalibur mainstays such as Pete Wisdom, Douglock, Cerise or Wolfsbane you’d like to see released to complement this pack?
I’ll be honest, I’m not and have never really been a big X-Men guy. It’s just not a corner of Marvel that I’m into, I have a surface knowledge of the players and that’s pretty much it. So when Hasbro does full X-waves, my wallet breathes a sigh of relief.
But these figures look GREAT. Might be tempted to pick up a set, if the price point isn’t too rough.
An absolute must-have. Cue the “shut up and take my money” meme.
Excalibur was the book that got me back into comics as an 18yr old after a 4 year absence when i thought i was too “grown up” for comics, so this is a MUST have for me. A little disappointed that there’s no Rachel yet, but hopefully a single figure release down the lime will involve some cool flaming accessories . For any extra figures down the line , I’d love the rest of the expanded team that Alan Davis added, Kylun, Cerise, Micromax , Ferun, and of course Widget
Joy.
Gasm.
These look fantastic, definitely getting this. Hope Rachel gets made down the line.
I would definitely like to get this. I just hope it won’t be some kind of exclusive again (and yes, that includes Hasbro Pulse for those of us not fortunate enough to live in one of those 3 countries Hasbro pays attention to).
I’ve been waiting for this specific Shadowcat figure, so I’d get this even if I didn’t like the other two figures, but they are just fine too. It’s not a 90’s Shadowcat though. She started with that costume in the 80’s, and just didn’t change for eXcalibur. If it were a 90’s figure, I probably wouldn’t have anything to do with it. LOL
