Hasbro has seemingly realized that they’re leaving money on the proverbial table by not having some iconic characters available this year at mass retail, so they’re going back to the well again with more reissues from their very popular and successful Retro line! Following up recent X-Men and Spider-Man Legends, Retro Ghost Rider and Doctor Doom are now boarding the re-release train!
This Doctor Doom Fantastic Four Legends Retro figure was among the pricier Toybiz-style packaging releases, having been an exclusive way back in 2020. Pretty much every Hasbro Doom is a hot commodity these days, so they were smart to make this guy accessible to collectors once again.
This is a direct re-release of the 2020 Marvel Legends Doctor Doom, so there’s no updates to the look or articulation of the figure.
Since he was a few bucks more than a standard release 5 years ago, it’s not too surprising to see him a few bucks more expensive now at $30 MSRP. That price stings, but is vastly better than the $80 aftermarket price he’s been selling at.
For $30, at least he still cones with the same generous spread of accessories: interchangeable hands, a gun, two books, green translucent magic effects and the Ultimate Nullifier. If you need a solid classic Doom figure with a lot of display options, this is a nice one.
I’m honestly a wee bit surprised to see the Retro Ghost Rider getting a comeback tour since his 2022 release. We’ve had a couple Ghost Rider bikes with figures over the last years, which I would have thought might dilute demand for this guy.
But apparently, I thought wrong, as initial pre-orders for this reissue sold out almost instantly.
This Ghost Rider was first released in honor of Ghost Rider’s 50th Anniversary, although I guess now it’s celebrating his 53rd anniversary as well.
This is the only Hasbro release ever with the Toybiz 90s styled packaging, which is the coolest thing about this Ghost Rider figure and its biggest selling point (at least, to me). I think the Ghost Rider packaging was some of Toybiz’s best!
The melty Johnny Blaze head, flaming chain, flaming skeleton hands and fire effects are all still included. Like Dr. Doom, this is a full-on reprint with no changes to the earlier-released toy, although thankfully Ghost Rider is at a 5 dollar lower retail price than Doom.
Both these Retro Marvel Legends action figures are up for PO right now, with an anticipated ship date in fall 2025. These are almost certainly already in production, so hopefully early orders selling out fast doesn’t indicate Hasbro underestimated demand for these guys once again.
What do you think of this re-release, Marvel collectors? Are you adding either of these new prints to your own shelf?
