Marvel Legends Secret Wars Iceman Figure Packaged Retro Hasbro

Even as a kiddo in the early 90s, I was well aware of—and pining away for—the three European exclusive Marvel Secret Wars figures from Mattel: Electro, Iceman and Constrictor. I wasn’t too broken up about the villains, but I was quite perturbed I couldn’t have my own Iceman figure.

Given the magnitude of the Marvel toys and collectibles collection I’ve built over the years, you would think I would have sprung long ago for one of my earliest grails. But nope! Secret Wars Iceman has long been “the one that got away” for me, despite the multitude of Toybiz and Hasbro Bobby Drakes I’ve owned over the years. But finally, nearly four decades later, my childhood dream will come true thanks to Hasbro’s Marvel Legends Secret Wars Retro Series!

Cardback Iceman Secret Wars X-Men Marvel Legends 2025 PackageWhile the vintage Mattel figures were just 4.5” tall with 5 points of articulation, Hasbro has (of course) brought the X-Men’s resident snowman up to modern standards, while keeping some of the charm of the vintage version intact.

Hasbro Marvel Legends Secret Wars Iceman Secret ShieldIt would have been neat if this Iceman got pearlescent paint like Mattel’s iteration, but ultimately I think the clear white makes for a better representation of the character overall. I love the nostalgic details of the painted-on belt and holographic “secret shield”, though!

Secret Wars Marvel Legends Iceman Figure and AccessoriesI like the 1989 release, this Hasbro Iceman action figure actually comes with accessories beyond his gimmicky shield. We get an ice sled, two ice effects, an extra pair of swapout hands, an alternate head with open mouth and even a snowball! Off the top of my head, I think this is easily the Iceman figure by Hasbro with the most extras ever.

Marvel Legends Iceman Throwing SnowballWe’ve had a lot of Iceman toys, but I think the packaging and wealth of accessories really help this one stand out. It’s about time Bobby can throw a snowball and project ice for his sled in Marvel Legends form! If you don’t have an Iceman figure already, there’s very little downside to this release. If you do have one and have no nostalgia for the vintage Mattel line, this may not be for you.

Marvel Legends Iceman Secret Wars Retro Hasbro Figure Making Ice SledThe Marvel Legends Secret Wars Iceman figure is now up for order, and will be shipping out this winter. Iceman is a high-profile X-Men character, and I don’t mind a new figure of him being back in circulation every couple years. This particular throwback one is exceptionally cool, so good job Hasbro on bringing this vision to life.

What do you think of this release, Marvel collectors? Is this release making anyone else’s boyhood dreams come true? Is the frostiest X-Men on your shopping list for the coming winter season?
