Vintage X-Men Marvel Legends Wave Iceman Cyclops Storm

Hasbro brought four of the six action figures in the 6” Vintage X-Men Legends to New York Toy Fair 2019 in February, and three of the four figures made a huge splash there (with Madripoor Wolverine being an obvious exception).

The final two figures in the wave were kept secret to be held as a later surprise, but word leaked out months ago that they were likely to be a Jim Lee Storm and an Iceman—and lo and behold, that’s just what they are!

Marvel Legends Jim Lee Storm Figure PackagedHasbro polled fans at a convention a while back as to whether a 90s Storm Marvel Legends figure should have a silver or white costume, and it looks like white has won the day!

It’s hard to say from the photo whether Storm’s “wings” are plastic or soft goods, but they look great regardless. This figure is going to be a hot, Hot, HOT seller! With no Build-A-Figure for this wave to balance sales, I foresee this Marvel Legends Storm figure being a nightmare to find at retail.

Marvel Legends Vintage Iceman Figure PackagedThe new Vintage Marvel Legends Iceman Figure is… well, I guess he’s “okay”. This looks like the Toybiz X-Men Iceman figure reincarnated into a modern day package. With only fists and no open hands, plus an ice effects sled that doesn’t match the color of Iceman himself, I’m not as in love with this Bobby Drake figure as I really wanted to be.

Marvel Legends Vintage X-Men Wolverine Packaged RetroRounding out the X-Men Vintage Legends Series are the four figures I talked about at length at Toyfair: X-Factor Cyclops, Madripoor Wolverine, 80s Dazzler and Silver Samurai.

This Madripoor “disguise” Wolverine is at the very bottom of my list of Wolverine costumes, and this figure might be a very rare “pass” for me since there’s no Build-A-Figure in this wave. The “mask” on Logan has always seemed silly to me, and I’m stumped why Hasbro left it off the card art entirely.

Cyclops in his white and blue X-Factor costume might be the very first Toybiz X-Men figure that I ever bought (my memory is a little hazy in my old age), and I’m psyched to see that classic costume updated in figure form! Hasbro has raised the bar with the optic blast effects for this Cyclops, and I hope getting them with Scott Summers figures becomes the new normal.

Silver Samurai Marvel Legends Vintage X-Men Figure PackagedSilver Samurai is the token villain in this wave, and while he’s long been requested by X-Men fans, it’s difficult to predict his retail sales. While he’s appeared in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and the Wolverine movie (sort of), he’s not really a household name. I would have preferred a vac-metallized armor on him, but otherwise, he looks excellent.

Finally, we’ve got the Marvel Legends Dazzler that I really wanted all along! This is Alison Blaire as she appeared in the classic X-Men arcade game, and she looks rockin’. Unlike poor Jubilee, she even gets pink effects pieces! So excited to get a chance to own a super-articulated 80s Dazzler. Well-done, Hasbro!

The Marvel Legends Vintage X-Men wave is now up for order, and is scheduled to ship out in late summer 2019. No Build-A-Figure means uneven sales, so I have a hunch we may see Wolverine and maybe even Silver Samurai falling off the pegs this fall. The Retro Legends waves traditionally haven’t shown up at Target or Walmart, so this could also be a hard series to find in general.

Marvel Legends Vintage X-Men Series Figures Up for Order! Storm! — 26 Comments

  1. Oh thank God! I can finally get rid of this stupid Toy Biz Jim Lee Storm!

  2. Now that you finally gave us a “blast effect” for Cyclops, but yet you failed to give us a non-smoking head sculpt. What gives Hasbro?!?!

  3. Storm’s cape wings look cloth to me. I’d rather have her in a black costume, but oh well. I guess that leaves no one for the 90s gold & blue teams. Maybe Morph from the cartoon.

  4. Wow. Now all they need to do is rerelease Cyclops and maybe a redone Rocket Raccoon wave Jean, and we’ll have the iconic, definitive X-Men line-up most want.

    • Good idea. It seems like Cyclops is back to that old costume. They could do a 2-pack with Cyclops missing his right eye and Jean with a less ugly head sculpt. They could have alternate heads with optic blasts for cyclops and a pony tail for Jean like in the animated series.

  5. Pre-ordered Storm from Pulse. Don’t need any of the others. Now if they would just re-release the cartoon version of Jean Grey, and I’ll be all set!

    • How about a better idea regarding Jean Grey: a vintage X-Men Jim Lee design Jean Grey with 2 heads; one if they want a classic comic look and another for the Animated series feel of it.

  6. Dazzler and Silver Samurai for me. Mohawk Storm is good enough for me unless they come out with a Byrne era figure.

Also, it looks very clearly to me like Storm’s cape pieces are made of cloth. If you look very closely, you can see a texture that would only make sense if it’s cloth. Also, the way it’s wrapped around her legs in the picture… no way they would sculpt it in plastic and put it in that shape. It wouldn’t work when you moved her arms up to fly.

    • It’s the same cape they used on the Marvel NOW Storm figure from the Jubilee BAF wave, just different colors. That was made out of a cloth-like material.

  7. GAH JIM LEE STORM. Amazon better not cancel this preorder. Need this figure.

    • I just pre-ordered from Amazon for the first time; they cancel pre-orders? Uh oh… Has it happened to you before, why?

      • The chances of Amazon cancelling are extremely low. Hasbro shorted them on Professor X and Silver Sable, and people have never forgotten it. 95%+ of the time, the pre-orders through Amazon are safe and sound.

      • The Professor X set was cancelled on me…that really stunk. And Amazon in general has been hit or miss with me at times (granted, mostly hit, but still).

        I just really want to make sure I get this figure. ^^;

        • I preordered Dengar from Star Wars Black Series and a different order for the Spiderman/Kingpin wave from Amazon. They never sent me any notifications, and I frequently checked my order statuses. Both of those orders, my Dengar order totally disappeared, and Silver Sable and Red Goblin were removed from my Kingpin order looking like I never ordered them. I had to contact Amazon to find out what the deal was, only to learn that they cancelled them from my order. About a week or two later, I was able to buy Dengar again on Amazon for retail, and 4 days……..4 days later from my Kingpin order, Amazon had Silver Sable and Red Goblin back on sale, but I was unable to get them. Luckily, Pulse started then, and I got them from there. I will NEVER Pre-order from Amazon again, unless it’s an exclusive. I will only buy In-stock items.

I was going to pre-order Storm from Pulse, but they are sold out. Mr. Sinister was sold out at one time, but he is back to being able to pre-order again….so, I’m holding out hope that Storm will be available again. Pulse is a lot more reliable than Amazon. I did get Iceman preordered, and I also want Dazzler.

  8. Stoked about the Iceman reveal since this is the closest Hasbro has gotten to a classic Bronze Age Champions/Defenders Iceman to date.

I have yet to receive Professor X from either of the other 2 retailers I ordered them from. I hope Amazon doesn’t cancel this newest Storm since everyone else has sold out their pre-orders.

    • I’m still without a Prof X even though I have now pre-ordered him twice. And no, I will Never forgive or forget that Amazon cancelled that.

  9. I pre-ordered Silver Samurai on Pulse, ended up pre-ordering Storm on Amazon. I was just looking at my Storm figure from the Apocalypse series, and damn it Hasbro screwed up yet again on the belt detail! Both belt hooks are pointing in the same direction as the end of the belt straps! Belts cannot be strapped as shown.

  10. I’ve been avoiding any pre-orders this year which seems to have been a good idea since so many folks have had issues with pre-orders this year from walmart and amazon. That said, Storm, Iceman, and Silver Samurai are all must-have figures for me. I’d like to pick up Dazzler too. I can skip Wolverine and Cyclops although if this wave had a nice BAF i probably would’ve just gotten the whole set.

    • Hard to say! Target and Walmart didn’t order either of the previous two Vintage/Retro Series—those were primarily carried by online retailers and GameStop (and Toys R Us before they folded).

  11. STORM, Dazzler , Iceman and Silver Samurai are mines! Now if we can get the arcade version of storm in her black suit with the headress
