Walmart Exclusive Marvel Legends Binary Captain Marvel Up for Order!

UPDATE 6/7/2019: Well here’s a crazy development to end the week on: Pigs must be flying and Satan must be selling sno-cones, because the Walmart Exclusive Marvel Legends Binary Captain Marvel figure is *FINALLY* up for order online! Who’s still pumped for this 5-month late Carol Danvers? šŸ˜

Walmart Binary Marvel Legends Captain Marvel PackagedORIGINAL 12/21/2018: The Captain Marvel movie may not be hitting theaters until March, but as far as Hasbro Marvel Legends collecting goes, January 2019 is gonna be the big month that Carol Danvers fans have been waiting for! We learned about the final figure in the ML Kree Sentry Build-A-Figure Series earlier this month, but Hasbro had a few tricks left up their sleeve: the Marvel Legends Target Exclusive Starforce Captain Marvel & Walmart Exclusive Binary Form Captain Marvel Figures have now been revealed!

Marvel Legends Staforce Captain Marvel Figure Packaged

A few days back, photos crept onto the internet of previously-unseen Captain Marvel Legends figures that were all-but-confirmed to be store exclusive releases. I always prefer to let Hasbro preserve secrecy until theyā€™re ready to play their cards, so I decided to wait for the go-ahead from Hasbro PR and official hi-res photos to be sent out.

And luckily, I didnā€™t have long to wait, as Hasbro officially announced the pair of exclusives late this week!

Marvel Legends Target Star Force Captain Marvel Figure and AccessoriesFirst up, weā€™ve got the figure that I (though not necessarily the majority of collectors) am more excited about: the Starforce Captain Marvel figure. Weā€™ve seen Carol in this green Kree costume in trailers and on various toys, so itā€™s not a shocking twist that weā€™ll be getting a Hasbro figure of this version of the character.

Target Exclusive Captain Marvel Starforce Marvel Legends FigureWhat may surprise some folks, however, is how loaded up with accessories this Target Exclusive is! The Marvel Legends Captain Marvel Starforce figure will come with three interchangeable heads (masked and unmasked Carol Danvers and a Minn-Erva head), as well as a scarf, four interchangeable hands (fists and grasping hands), a strapped pouch/bag, and a very cool Kree blaster rifle with paint deco on it.

The Doctor Minerva/Minn-Erva parts are a major highlight of this figure, as I can see a lot of fans wanting to get a second copy of this action figure after they see the movie in March. For just 20 bucks, Hasbro has gone all-out for this release.

Marvel Legends Captain Marvel Binary Form FigureFrom the response Iā€™ve seen online, however, a majority of collectors are more excited about the Walmart Exclusive Binary Captain Marvel Legends figure than any other 6ā€ version of Carol coming out next year.

Captain Marvel Legends Exclusive Binary Form Six Inch Figure

Similarly to in the comics, this is a sort of ā€œpowered-upā€ Carol Danvers who comes with translucent flaming hair and effects piece attachments for her fists. Iā€™ve seen quite a few folks already say this is the only Carol figure that theyā€™re planning to buy for the movie.

Everybody knows Iā€™m a complete sucker for effects pieces, but Iā€™m taking a wait and see attitude with this exclusive variant. Iā€™m not convinced weā€™ll see Carol Danvers in her Binary Form for more than a minute in the film, and I think I prefer the Kree Sentry Series iterations of the character (one mostly because I want the cat pack-in). Bravo to Hasbro for getting this out there for those who want it, though!

Target Walmart Exclusive Captain Marvel Legends Figures PackagedThe Exclusive Captain Marvel Binary Form and Starforce ML variants are due out in Walmart and Target stores (respectively) in January 2019 (yes, thatā€™s next month). Both toys carry the standard $19.99 MSRP. Given that the Starforce figure is meant to be purchased multiple times and the Binary Form seems to have a lot of collector hype behind it, I think both these figures will be in more demand than the general Kree Sentry BAF Series.

Does the announcement of this pair of Captain Marvel Legends figures alter your shopping plans for the movie figures series? Which Carol Danver(s) variants (if any), are you planning on adding to your collectionā€”and are you planning on picking up the Kree Sentry wave at all?

Walmart Exclusive Marvel Legends Binary Captain Marvel Up for Order! — 26 Comments

  1. definitely like the two exclusives better than either of the Carols in the Kree Sentry wave. in particular i think the green outfit looks cooler than the red-blue one.

Having this many carols coming out around the same time seems like overkill, but what do i know?

Still hoping for a 2-pack with a classic comic ms marvel and mar-vell or maybe with that superskrull figure that was a rumored walgreen exclusive at one point.

    • I feel like it has to be coming. Rektangular leaked a classic Ms. Marvel and he’s been spot on about almost everything else.

  2. Definitely gonna get the Starforce figure, mostly for the accessories. Iā€™ll probably pick up the Binary figure too if I see it, not gonna go out of my way to get though.

  3. Literally all I can think is, “Please just be a great movie! Please Please PLEASE be a great movie!”
I definitely want these two variants more than the ones from the Kree Sentry set…but it will still be so long before we see the movie. I’m not one to buy multiples of characters I’m not a super fan of, but these look too good to pass up. I’d rather have the exclusives and find out I love the MCU version than find out I love the MCU version and have to pay scalper prices.

    • Is there even a such thing as “scalper” prices on Marvel Legends aside from the BAFs. I haven’t seen a figure in YEARS that you can’t get at a reasonable price as long as your patient and give them time to hit the market. That term gets thrown around WAYY too much.

        • Mysterio for sure, but there are a few others too. From the Warlock X-men wave, Colossus is 37 dollars and Cyclops is 56 bucks. I believe Colossus has fluctuated a bit (I got him when he was 30 once), but Cyclops has been pretty steadily above 40 bucks since release.

          • Ok, so out of probably nearly around 50 figures a year+ when you count in the multi-packs, exclusives etc. we’ve come up with a small handful or so that went for above retail? Now of course, that’s not counting the how many DOZEN that you can get BELOW retail? I think I’ll take the current format. People always gotta complain about something….

      • XKey is clearly talking about exclusives, though, not MLs in general. I’ve heard a lot of complaints about the difficulty of finding walmart exclusives in particular (e.g., thanos, the mimban stormtrooper). and they tend to sell out very quickly once they are made available online at walmart.com.

Target seems to do a better job stocking exclusives, although the gamorrean guards were pretty tough to find imo. Walgreens exclusives have also been tough to find for many and are sell out fast online (e.g., silver surfer, thing, reed)

And you’d better believe scalpers are well aware of the distribution issues these companies have regarding exclusive figures, and take advantage of it.

        • Exactly what I am talking about + the few “one per box/rare” nonsense. I never saw a Hela in person or online for retail and only saw like 70$+. When I saw one for 40$, I jumped and basically pointed at the case like, “MINE!” I saw Rogue in person once, but decided it was best not to drop 20$ on a figure but would come back on payday. Obviously she wasn’t there, the cheapest I found later was 55$. Somehow, I have always found that last Walgreen’s exclusive in stock…I don’t know how, but I am not complaining. The Scarlet Witch and Vision set and the Dark Phoenix and Cyclops set I would LOVE to have but never saw in person or for retail.
So yeah, not all of them achieve something along the lines of “scalper prices” but I’ve learned that if I see it and think I want it, I should buy it then instead of realizing later that I actually do want it and having to pay an inflated (scalped) price.

      • Walmart exclusive Thanos. Bought and paid for it online. The 5 in stock were bought up literally before they could pick my order. In a 12 hour period. Now they are twice the price if not more on eBay and other sites.

  4. I just wanna say, that blaster rifle with the paint deco… Was that so hard to do? More of that, please!

  5. I love the Captains Marvel, from Mar-Vell through Genis to Carol, so I was already planning to grab the regular series for the 2 Carols and Genis, plus probably the Kree Star Commander and Talos. These look awesome though, so I want them too. And I want to double up on the Starforce one to have a Minn-Erva and a Car-Ell.

Any chance Hasbro has said, or could say, whether to expect these anywhere in Canada? Walmart Canada, Toys R Us Canada, or EBGames?

  6. Any chance anyone has discovered their release dates yet? I know we just finished the first week of January and all…
I’m just getting more and more excited for these figures and so far they aren’t even showing up on their respective websites.
    Marvel Legends, I have many.
    Patience…I have none.
    šŸ˜‰

Also…damn I hope her movie is really good!

  7. $5 extra for what exactly. Sigh. was pretty psyched about this figure originally but between the long delay and the price jack up, i’ll hold off. if she doesn’t end up dropping in price i’ll end up grabbing one of the sentry wave Carols and/or making due with the starforce Carol fig.

    • The unannounced price hike seems like one final middle finger move on the retailerā€™s part. At least when Hasbro charges more, you usually get better paint apps and more unique pieces. This is a retailer just asking for aftermarket prices because they have a monopoly on their exclusives.

  8. I’m not so sure that this was a delay as much as it was a marketing technique to promote the release of the Captain Marvel movie on home video….Blu-ray/DVD. But I have two Captain Marvel movie figures, and i don’t want another.

    • Which is fine except that back when these exclusives were first announced in December we were told they would be available in January (see Dabid’s original post before the update was added). If WM had told everyone that they had a plan and were releasing these when the dvd came out, that would be fine but instead it was just left unexplained, which didn’t instill a lot of confidence after the Corvus 2-pack pre-order screw-up.

I still don’t get why they’re charging an extra $6 (normally WM charges $18.84 for ML), 30% markup seems pretty steep for a few translucent changes to existing parts from the kree sentry wave version. My current theory is WM knows they don’t have enough supply to meet demand and are assuming a higher price point will result in fewer fans who are disgruntled when the supply runs out. Or maybe this is just the online price and it will be sold for the normal price point in stores, i dunno.

  9. At least it makes me hopeful that I’ll possibly have a chance at Worthy Cap.

  10. I just wanna know if the paint on her face will come off to reveal a translucent face underneath; I see the makings of a Magma (New Mutants) custom if so

    • I don’t think so. The eyes themselves aren’t translucent, just painted orange. Only the hair is translucent, making me think it’s an add-on piece of translucent plastic on top of an otherwise opaque plastic head.

  11. This is Walmart’s take on the phrase “A day late and a dollar short.” (Months late and dollars more.) So this is a “PASS” for me.

  12. I dunno. I’m pissed cause I still want one…but the fact that it popped up and was gone so fast and doesn’t seem to be coming to stores at all, makes me wanna rage against Hasbro for allowing this at all. I hope she gets wide/rereleased to other stores like how Back in Black Deadpool was a Gamestop exclusive and then showed up at Target too.
