On the same day that they announce the comic book-inspired Marvel Select Winter Soldier action figure, Diamond Select Toys has also announced via MTV the pair of characters that will make up their Marvel Select Captain America: The Winter Soldier figures to be released in the spring. And–surprise! The movie version of the Winter Soldier himself isn’t one of them…

In general, Diamond Select Toys/Art Asylum only release 1-2 Marvel Select movie figures for every Marvel movie that comes out. That’s left some pretty weird holes in the Marvel Select movie figures range, such as no Thor: The Dark World Marvel Select Loki or Malekith figures, no Avengers Marvel Select Black Widow movie figure, and so forth.

But I was dead-certain that the two characters DST would choose to release for the Captain America: The Winter Soldier Marvel Select figures would be Stealth Uniform Captain America and the Winter Soldier himself. Well–I got it half right. In actuality–as revealed by teaser photo silhouettes sent to MTV–the two Marvel Select Captain America 2 movie figures released will be Marvel Select Falcon and Captain America in Stealth Uniform. Wow, I really didn’t see that one coming.

We’ve already seen that the only three scheduled Hasbro Captain America: The Winter Soldier Marvel Legends movie figures for 2014 are the Winter Soldier, Captain America and Black Widow, so I definitely like the inclusion of the Falcon Marvel Select figure here.

Sam Wilson (The Falcon) is not yet confirmed to be in The Avengers: Age of Ultron movie, so this might be The Falcon’s only shot at getting a really nice action figure in movie form. Marvel Select Falcon’s wings are definitely going to end up taking up a lot of packaging space, so he may not have a figure base included. We’ll have to wait and see.

While I do think it’s a little bit bizarre to not get a Marvel Select action figure of the titular antagonist character of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”, we’ll at least have the outstanding Marvel Select Winter Soldier comics-based figure coming out this winter to keep us warm at night.

The 7″ Marvel Select Captain America movie action figures of The Falcon and Captain America in Stealth Uniform are scheduled to be released in April 2014, with a retail price of $24.99.
