I have a pretty wide range of collecting interests, and as such, I’m always pretty pumped when two things that I collect interesect in an unexpected way. I’ve been playing the ultra-popular Disney Tsum Tsum mobile game on-and-off for about a year now, and picking-and-choosing random Tsum Tsum plush along the way. But next month’s new set will be an instant buy all-around: because it’s the first-ever Marvel Tsum Tsum plush series!
UPDATE 10/6: The first series of Marvel Tsum Tsums is now available online! Get ’em while they last (which is not gonna be long)!
Up until now, all of the plush toys released in America have been based on new and classic Disney animated features (including the “Disney Original” Big Hero 6 Tsum Tsum set, which sold like gangbusters).
But on October 6 2015, the October Tsum Tsum Tuesday (I’m not making up that name)–the day that physical Disney Stores and the online store stock the new Tsum Tsum plush for the month–Disney will welcome Marvel characters in the line for the very first time! (And yes, pretending Big Hero 6 aren’t Marvel characters is definitely spiking my blood pressure.)
Six new characters will be available as Tsum Tsum Marvel plush toys on 10/6/2015: the “Ultimate Spider-Man Collection” (which consists solely of Spider-Man… seriously), and the “Avengers Collection” (which contains Hulk, Captain America, Black Widow, Thor and Iron Man).
Sorry, Hawkeye–you’re not cool enough to be a super-deformed stuffed head-loaf thing!
Despite being tiny, the small Tsum Tsum Marvel plush figures will actually have a surprising amount of detail stitched into them. My favorite details on these plushies are definitely TsuM Tsum Thor’s stitched-on Mjolnir hammer, Hulk’s tattered pants and Captain America’s wings and shield!
According to the Disney Store Poster for the Marvel Tsums, Spider-Man will be coming in three sizes: Small ($4.95), Medium ($12.95) and Large ($24.95). For those who haven’t seen the Tsum Tsums in person, the small ones are really small (smaller than a Beanie Baby) and the Large ones are really large (about “the size of Hot Toys Hulk” large).
There’s no word about medium or large Avengers Tsums at this time, but I’d be surprised if we don’t eventually see larger versions of at least Iron Man and Hulk.
If you think you might want these Marvel Tsum Tsum plush, though, you’d better be prepared: almost every new release Tsum Tsum the Disney Store releases (that isn’t an evergreen character like Mickey or Stitch) sells out within a few hours of being put up for sale online and in Disney Stores.
No, seriously–just like San Diego Comic-Con, humongous lines form for these plush toys, complete with charging crowds at opening and rare incidents of pushing and shoving and such when stores open. Disney magic, right?!
Hands up, Marvel collectors: How many of you are already aware of/interested in Tsum Tsum plush, and how many of you will be braving the crowds in a little over a month to try to secure what’s sure to be one of the hottest and fastest-selling Tsum Tsum sets ever?
There are a lot of Tsums that are not in the game and there are a lot of Tsums in the game that don’t exist as a physical product. I think they missed the opportunity to really tie the game with the product where buying the product would give you a code to unlock the character in the game. So hold expectations at bay.
Even without the game ties, I still think it’s an opportunity they can take advantage of in the future, and honestly, it’s Marvel. I love both Marvel and Disney, and I didn’t think twice about ordering 1 of each! They are still up, surprisingly, so don’t miss them!
Love the game. Have about 11 physical tsums. Much easier to get, now that Target carries them.
I don’t think the first wave will go out of stock soon, if at all, since it’s an intro to Marvel. Consider this wave the “Mickey and Friends” of Marvel, and if anything, we should expect different versions through the months to come. Halloween Avengers, Christmas Spider-Man, Easter Hulk anyone?
Where the heck is Hawkeye? He is part of the Avengers, so why isn’t he with any of them?
