Kotobukiya Bishoujo Spider-Woman Photos & Up for Order!

When Kotobukiya showed off the unpainted Bishoujo Spider-Woman statue sculpt at New York Comic Con 2013 one month ago, we knew it wasn’t going to be long until we saw the official painted photos of the piece and the opening of pre-orders. Sure enough, over the weekend Kotobukiya released glamor shots of the statue, and the 2014 Kotobukiya Spider-Woman Bishoujo statue is now available for order!

Kotobukiya Spider-Woman Bishoujo Statue

I’m a Bishoujo hater. There’s no denying it at this point. I just can’t stand the over-sexualization of females in this line (and moreoever, my wife would beat me to death if I ever tried to bring one of the more risqué Bishoujo statues into the house). Even so, sometimes Kotobukiya does right by the females of the Marvel Universe, and their upcoming Bishoujo Spider-Woman figure will join the recent X-Force Psylocke and Jubilee Bishoujo designs in tastefulness by being at least somewhat appropriate.

Bishoujo 2014 Kotobukiya Spider-Woman StatueSee, obviously what Kotobukiya is attempting to portray here is Spider-Woman crouched on a ledge somewhere and ready to pounce on an enemy. Surely–surely–Spiderwoman hasn’t been posed in this manner to portray her squatting on anything other than some part of the terrain she’s in. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Regardless, the paint on this Spider-Woman statue is pretty gorgeous. I really like the shiny appearance of the costume that is created by the glossy red and yellow paints chosen for the piece, as well as the translucent white plastic used for Spider-Woman’s webs.

Spider-Woman Bishoujo Statue Alternate Head Jessica DrewGiven the timing of the release for this Bishoujo Spiderwoman (summer 2014), I’d be pretty startled if the Kotobukiya SDCC 2014 exclusive wasn’t a Bishoujo Julia Carpenter Spider-Woman statue in her purple/black costume. I know a lot of Marvel fans do prefer the Julia Carpenter-era Spider-Woman (myself included), so I’ll be looking forward to seeing if that version does materialize as a San Diego Comic Con 2014 exclusive next year (I’m betting on “yes”).

Kotobukiya showed off an unmasked Spider-Woman Jessica Drew head with the official photos of the Bishoujo Spiderwoman statue, so I’m expecting that alternate head/face plate to come packed with the regular edition of the statue. No confirmation on that, yet, however–hopefully the unmasked Jessica Drew Spider-Woman won’t end up as an exclusive instead of a Julia Carpenter version.

Kotobukiya 2014 Bishoujo Spider-Woman Statue SideThe Spider-Woman Kotobukiya Bishoujo statue is now available for pre-order, with an expected release date of June 2014 (pushed back from the originally announced May 2014 target). I’ll post an update when Kotobukiya confirms whether or not the alternate head is included with this Bishoujo Spider-Woman statue for certain.

I won’t be picking up this Jessica Drew Spider-Woman Bishoujo statue myself, but I’d be seriously tempted by a Julia Carpenter variant. What about you, Marvel collectors? Is there a place for this squatting Spider-Woman statue in your life?
