Revoltech Iron Man Mark VII Figure Reissue Announced!

In the aftermath of Figma officially opening orders for their exquisite (albeit excessively expensive) Avengers Figma Iron Man Mark VII figure, Kaiyodo has decided to cash in on all of the interest in the Mark VII Iron Man as well! Though it was first released in early 2013 to mixed reviews and took quite a while to sell through, the Avengers Revoltech Iron Man Mark VII figure will be reissued and flying back to stores in summer 2014! But should you buy one? Maybe, maybe not…

Sci-Fi Revoltech #42 Iron Man Mark VII Box Packaged

The Kaiyodo Revoltech line of action figures oftentimes includes some pretty great toys. The Revoltech Woody and Buzz Lightyear figures are two of my wife’s absolute favorite action figures, and two of the only ones that she keeps on her desk.

So no, I don’t hate Kaiyodo or Revoltech–I think the line is capable of excellent things. Unfortunately, the Sci-Fi Revoltech #42 Iron Man Mark VII figure just isn’t one of those things.

Revoltech Iron Man Mark VII Action Figure Effects PiecesI actually had this Iron Man Revoltech figure briefly last year when it first shipped in February 2013, and was instantly disappointed in it. It’s a rare figure that I took out of the package, played with for about 10 minutes, put back into the box, and sold. The proportions on the figure’s armor looked off, the joints were more loose than I expected, the paint applications were sub-par for such an expensive Iron Man, and I just wasn’t happy with the overall figure.

Revoltech Iron Man Mark 7 Action Figure Articulation SchemeI later heard collectors complaining about the paint fading on the Revoltech Iron Man Mark 7 action figure, but thankfully, I’d already sold mine before I could experience that. I’m not saying Revoltech can’t make solid Iron Man figures–I actually really like my Revoltech War Machine–but this Mark VII just fell well below my expectations.

Iron Man Revoltech Mark VII Figure FlyingThe Revoltech Avengers Iron Man Mark VII figure reissue is now available for pre-order, and is scheduled to be released in June/July 2014. I’ve been pretty open about my dislike of this Iron Man Mark VII figure, but I know a lot of people really love the Revoltech line, and if so, maybe this re-release will be for you. It’s certainly better to pay retail for this figure in a few months than it would be to pay over $100 on the aftermarket for one right now.

I do my best to always call ’em as I see ’em, but that doesn’t mean I’m always right. Anyone out there own the first release of the Revoltech Iron Man Mark VII figure and want to champion it?

  1. i have the whole line of revoltech iron men. theyre nice figures and ive never had problems with any them. my favorite of the line is definitely the mark 1, hes beautifully done. theyre about 30 dollars cheaper than the figma one (i dont see a difference worth another 30 bucks between them, more if you want the figma with the stark face and opening hatches) and theres a whole line of mark 1-7, 42 and war machine to collect. im definitely a fan of the revoltech iron man line, so ill champion them.

    • Just to be clear, it’s not the whole line of Revoltech Iron Man figures I don’t like. The War Machine and Mark I especially are some of my favorites–I was just really let down with the quality of the Mark VII I got. The paint applications and joint tightness were noticeably worse than any of the other ones I have, and the proportions on the actual armor seemed off to me–particularly the shoulder armor.

It’s been about a year since I had the Mark VII in hand, though, scarecrow–would you say that the proportions and aesthetic of the Revoltech Mark VII are at the same level, above, or below the Figma Iron Man Mark VII prototype we’ve seen?

      • i couldnt really say for sure. promo photos are deceiving and comparing a production figure in hand to promo photos isnt fair on paint and details. the proportions do look a lil better on the figma one, the torso seems thicker and longer, the head looks a lil bigger, but considering the price difference and i like the other revoltech iron mans more than the other figma avengers, i still think revoltechs the better choice personally. if theyd shown this and announced a line of iron man figures all this quality id consider it, but the buxom cap, oddly scaled and smooth thor…., the line as whole isnt to a big draw to me. so thats also influencing my opinion. no doubt this figma iron mans a really nice figure, just not necessarily a great value to me.
