Just when I thought we had seen every single one of the 2013 Marvel SDCC Exclusives, a few more sure-to-be-coveted figures have made themselves known! I also run a LEGO and Mega Bloks blog, so I always have my ear to the ground, listening for LEGO news and rumors. And today I heard a pretty loud rumble regarding two brand-new, previously unannounced LEGO Marvel SDCC Exclusive minifigures: a LEGO Spider-Woman Minifigure and a LEGO Spider-Man Minifigure in movie costume!
And that may be true–but the ones you own aren’t like this one.The LEGO Spider-Man figures in all the sets currently available are based on the “Ultimate Spider-Man” cartoon series and look very simplistic. Meanwhile, this LEGO San Diego Comic-Con 2013 Spider-Man minifigure is wearing an alternate costume that’s much more reminiscent of the costumes Spider-Man wears in the movies.
There were no LEGO “Amazing Spider-Man” sets or minifigures released based on last year’s “Amazing Spider-Man” movie or the previous Spider-Man trilogy because LEGO did not (and does not) hold the license for making figures based on live-action Spider-Man films. That license is held by MEGA Brands, who made some mediocre Amazing Spider-Man Mega Bloks figures and sets for the movie. This particular minifigure is obviously not based off the most recent Spider-Man movie, as Spider-Man’s mask has silver eyes instead of gold.
Meanwhile, the other Marvel 2013 San Diego Comic-Con exclusive will be the LEGO Spider-Woman minifigure! This will be the first-ever (and only ever) LEGO Spider-Woman figure released. It is LEGO’s policy not to exactly duplicate the LEGO Superheroes minifigures that it releases as promotional convention exclusives, which has ticked off a lot of fans who are furious that they’ll never be able to afford a LEGO Green Lantern or Black Costume Spider-Man minifigure.
The LEGO SDCC Exclusives tend to be some of the hottest and most valuable exclusives each year, and these are sure to be no exception. Last year’s SDCC 2012 LEGO Black Costume Spider-Man and Phoenix minfigures typically sell for $150-$200 each on ebay, so you can bet competition for these Spider-Man and Spider-Woman minifigures will be pretty ferocious at San Diego Comic Con next week!
LEGO has not released any information yet on the manner that the LEGO Spider-Woman and Spider-Man minifigures will be given away at San Diego Comic-Con, and likely will not release that information until the convention actually begins. I’ll post an update when more information on these LEGO minifigures exclusives becomes available, and you can ‘Like’ Marvel Toy News on Facebook if you want to have Marvel figures news and updates beamed straight to your Facebook Newsfeed.
