SDCC 2026 Week is finally here! And while the event won’t open up until tomorrow night, many companies are already premiering some of their reveals to capture early audiences and dollars before the doors have even opened. One such company is Sideshow Collectibles, who have fully revealed a 1/4 scale Marvel statue of a Spider-Man villain fans have demanded for the better part of 2 decades—the Sideshow Doc Ock Premium Format Figure is now up for order!

Sideshow Collectibles has released a decent number of Marvel villains as 1/4 statues at this point, but only a handful of them have been non-symbiote Spidey villains. We got a Green Goblin Premium Format Figure statue over a decade ago now (back in 2015), but only Venom, Carnage and allies since.

If ever we were to get a new never-before-done Sideshow Spider-Man villain in the line, it seemed very likely to be Dr. Otto Octavius—Doctor Octopus itself! And after teasing him since the holidays, Sideshow has in fact now fully revealed the 1963 Stan Lee villain in polystone!

XM Studios did their own 1/4 Dr. Octopus a few years back, but that piece didn’t feel quite classic enough to me and wasn’t easily accessible to collectors in the United States, so I’ve continued to gave my fingers crossed for a decent take by Sideshow. Was that patience rewarded with this week’s big reveal?

I’m actually very pleased and satisfied with the new SS Doc Ock statue (with a couple gripes I’ll get to in a minute). I think the portrait is one of the strongest aspects of this piece. Otto looks ass-ugly and totally insane, with evil red lenses on his eyes and a maniacal smile on his face. This head is a 10/10 as far as I’m concerned. Love it.

I’m also really happy that sideshow didn’t try to “glamorize” Ock’s proportions to make him more aesthetically pleasing. Doc Ock is fat and out of shape, with an entirely unflattering body. That’s how Otto has classically been depicted, and Sideshow has nailed that here. The green and yellow costume colors were also the correct iconic choice.

Sideshow is telling a little story with this piece,,as Dr. Octopus is on the attack atop a base of Octavius Industries debris. Sideshow claims the rubble is theme to “Greenwich Village architecture”, but debris is debris to me. It looks fine as far as bases go, not distracting from the big ol’ supervillain this piece is meant to spotlight.

The mechanical arms and claws are a lot more divisive amongst collectors I’ve seen discussing this piece. Sideshow went for a modern style on them, and I think it looks good, but there are many varying opinions on this. I think these are worth giving a good hard look at and judging for yourself.

I don’t especially like the way that the artists designed the back/harness for Otto at all. It looks overly big and bulbous, and not at all representative of the usual artwork of the character. That said—I would never display this statue with the back turned forward anyway, so I can get past it. Your tolerance may vary.

I’m also not fully sold on the liberties taken by giving Doc Ock this elaborate octopus-themed belt. I don’t hate it exactly, but it is adding extra stylization that I don’t think really needed to be there. It won’t stop me from buying it, but it isn’t exactly a top selling point either.

Sideshow has priced their Premium Format Doctor Octopus at a lofty $885 MSRP. That is a mighty big MSRP, but not as mammoth as I feared for the 29” statue (given how complicated and large it is). The outrageously overpriced Jubilee Premium Format Figure that launched at the start of 2026 May have messed up ny proverbial bar for comparing the values of Sideshow statues, however.

The Sideshow Doctor Octopus Premium Format Figure statue is now up for order and will ship out in spring/summer 2027. The edition size is currently TBD and should be announced by the fall. There’s only one version of this release and no exclusive edition.
