This will be tough to believe, but we haven’t seen a single new Marvel comics-based Sideshow Premium Format Figure put up for sale since the end of 2013! Sideshow has been quiet, but now we can see the reason why: they’ve been working on something big. And by “big”, I mean “jaw droppingly-huge”! Sideshow Collectibles has not one, not two, but three Hulk Premium Format statues lined up for 2014, and the Red Hulk Premium Format Figure Exclusive Edition Statue is now up for order on the Sideshow website!

When the mysterious Red Hulk burst onto the scene in 2008, he immediately skyrocketed in popularity and became one of the best-selling and most talked-about characters in the entire Marvel Universe. From sucker-punching Uatu the Watcher to pounding the snot out of Thor and Iron Man, Red Hulk’s unrestrained rage and hatred allowed him to instantly become a Marvel icon.

Then a terrible thing happened–in 2010, it was revealed that the beloved ‘Rulk’ (the fan name for “Red Hulk”) was actually the hated General Thunderbolt Ross, arch-nemesis of The Hulk. Not only was this reveal predictable, but it was also a rousing flop, with many fans instantly losing interest in the character once they realized he was a villainous jerk that they hated. I was one of those people.

Even though I’ve never been able to regain my former love for the character of the Red Hulk since his ironic reveal as the Hulk’s hated foe, I’m still every bit as enamored with the fantastically-fun and intimidating character design of Rulk as I want on the day that he first hit the scene.

So when I heard Sideshow Collectibles was working on a new 2014 Red Hulk Premium Format Figure, it instantly leaped to the top of my list of most-anticipated statues. And now that the Premium Format Red Hulk has been revealed, it absolutely does not disappoint! Of the three Sideshow Collectibles Premium Format Hulk Figures coming this year (Green, Grey and Red), this is easily the one that I’m feeling the most compelled to buy.

While all three upcoming Hulk Premium Format Figures will share a basic body sculpt, this pose was clearly created with Red Hulk in mind. With a crazed, smiling look on his face and his body posed over the debris of Hulkbuster Iron Man, this monstrous quarter-scale Red Hulk Premium Format Figure is a scary and intimidating sight to behold!

Lighting up my heart even further, a Sideshow Exclusive Edition Red Hulk statue was announced! This limited version of the Red Hulk 1/4 scale Premium Format Figure includes an extra open-mouthed head portrait based on the Red Hulk’s legendary first battle with Thor!

I’ll probably stick to the evil, smiling Red Hulk head myself, but there’s no way I want to miss out on having the option of switching out the alternate head if I can help it.

The Sideshow Exclusive Red Hulk Premium Format Figure Statue will be available for order on the Sideshow Collectibles website starting Thursday afternoon, March 27th. I really, really want this $550 Red Hulk statue, but with money (and more importantly, space) being at a premium, I’m going to have to carefully consider my pre-order for this beast of a Premium Format statue (which basically translates to “yes, I’ll be ordering it”).
