2019 Marvel Legends: Mystique! Guardian! Wendigo! Weapon X! Fan Expo!

Hasbro is really spreading the love this year as far as Marvel Legends 2019 figure reveals at summer conventions go! Following a boatload of announcements at SDCC 2018 and the Unboxing Toy Convention in Mexico, Hasbro had another quartet of announcements up their sleeve for the Canada Fan Expo 2018: Marvel Legends Mystique, Weapon X, Guardian and a Wendigo Build-A-Figure!

2019 Marvel Legends Mystique Figure

When Hasbro said they were saving lots of figure reviews for conventions later in the year than San Diego Comic-Con 2018, they weren’t kidding! Though we’ve still got over a month until New York Comic Con 2018, we’re now up to a whopping eight 2019 Marvel Legends figures revealed since SDCC!

At the Unboxing Toy Convention we saw Living Laser, Nighthawk and the Kree Sentry Build-A-Figure appear. And today, five more figures have premiered, with four of them at the 2018 Fan Expo:

  • Mystique
  • Guardian
  • Weapon X
  • Wendigo Build-A-Figure

Hasbro Marvel Legends Weapon X FigureBelieve it or not, I believe Weapon X is the one character from this foursome that Hasbro hasn’t done before (if you consider Weapon X and Wolverine separate characters), as we’ve had a modern Mystique figure in the Epic Heroes series, a Wendigo in the Fin Fang Foom Series, and a Guardian in the Walmart Exclusive Ares Series.

I’ve never been a huge fan of the Weapon X design (I own exactly zero figures or statues of Logan in his Weapon X “costume”), but if I’m gonna have one, this looks like the one to have. Crazy to think that a Wolverine variant could ever be the newest thing in any series, huh?

Marvel Legends Guardian Alpha Flight FigureThat said, I’m really pleased with both the Marvel Legends Guardian and Mystique figures that premiered today. I actually really like the modern Mystique Legends figure in leather pants and top that Hasbro released in 2012, but I know the dress and skull belt version is the preferred look for the character by most fans–and this is quite an upgrade aesthetically from the old Toybiz Mystique.

The Walmart Exclusive Guardian is ridiculously expensive and inaccessible to new collectors these days, and if Hasbro is going to build any kind of Marvel Legends Alpha Flight, Guardian had to be obtainable again. The super-shiny paints used for this 2019 ML Guardian figure look fantastic!

Marvel Legends Wendigo Build-A-FigureThe only entry in this wave that I’m not at all crazy about is the new Marvel Legends Wendigo Build-A-Figure. When the Sasquatch BAF was revealed at Fan Expo one year ago, I think we all saw the writing on the wall that a repaint as a Wendigo BAF was a near-certainty. What I didn’t see coming was the butt-ugly head on this iteration of Wendigo!

I know we got an amazing classic Wendigo head in the Hulk Fin Fang Foom Series already, but this particular Wendigo design just doesn’t appeal to me, personally. (Feel free to ream me out in the comment for saying that, though, modern Wendigo fans!)

Marvel Legends 2019 Fan Expo Canada Figure RevealsAll four of these figures will be part of the Marvel Legends 2019 series, with Mystique being available solely as a Walgreens Exclusive (following Magik). I’ll post more specific release details and pre-order links for all these figures once more information is available.

What do you think of this latest quartet of reveals, Marvel Legends collectors? Which of these characters (if any) were on your wish list, and which are you planning to add to your collection next year?

2019 Marvel Legends: Mystique! Guardian! Wendigo! Weapon X! Fan Expo! — 28 Comments

  1. That Wendigo is very cool. Will be incorporating that into my Select collection for sure !!!

  2. That Mystique is stunning! And probably the only one i’m interested in from this reveal, sadly.

  3. I actually have the original Guardian figure from years back, but will definitely be getting this new one also. I’m a sucker for the original John Byrne Alpha Flight, and especially the design of this Guardian costume, so it’s a must have for me.

The Weapon X… eh, maybe. Depends on how much I want that Wendigo in the end.

  4. I fully agree with you Dabid! The Wendigo is an iteration of how it appears in comics now. I prefer the classic look of the previous. It’s just now out of scale (grossly so) with the Hulk (and even though we don’t yet have a Hulk on a buck like Gladiator yet, the stage has been set for one). We have to keep in mind however that this is merely a mock up of said figure. If peeps get at them in time, they may make alterations for the final design.

  5. There was a Weapon X waaay back in Toy Biz wave 7, 2004, though this one looks to be an improvement.

  6. So if Weapon X, Guardian and Wendigo are the other parts to the 2019 Wave I’m happy that I can just pick the ones I want rather than having to buy the entire wave

  7. So wait…that’s how Wendigo looks in the comics now? Though I prefer the classic I might end up getting this.
So if this is reveals for an X-men wave we have
    Gambit
    Blink
    Gaurdian
    Weapon X
    Skullbuster
    Baf: Wendigo

So we are just lacking one or two reveals which could be Forge and Storm!

    • In this case, I’d buy Gambit, Forge, Storm and call it a day. I might backtrack for Skullbuster if/when they make a good Lady Death Strike

  8. This Mystique is giving me LIFE! She looks AMAZING! I love her current look, but this is everything for me!
Plus, with all the figures out there, a couple of strategic paint strokes, and you have the current Mystique look.

  9. I think Wendigo looks fine, but he really needs to be whiter to me. Is this some sort of tan/desert camo color that they use for him in the comics now?

    • No. That is an unpainted base used in prototype models.
After approval and proper paint applications the final product will be the correct coloring.

      😎Shalom

  10. What’s with Jame Hudson’s expression there? I hope there’s an alternate head that doesn’t grimace so much. Is he realizing he’s about to blow up when Heather walks into the room as he tries to fix his armor in time?

    • His expression is popular right now here in Canada. Many of us look like this thanks to our circus act of a government.

  11. Who really sees the toybiz era of figures as anything but obsolete and who cares??? You can not compare that garbage to Hasbro legends and I wouldn’t spend 10$ on any of those trash figures. We have been in a new age of marvel figures and Hasbro is going to make every figure you can imagine. It’s not going to end anytime soon. So if you are dumb enough to spend whatever the amount is on the obsolete toybiz trash, then you deserve to get taken like a fool. Ever since Hasbro Marvel legends took off it pretty much made that toybiz era pointless. I am so glad I was into marvel universe when the toy is era was around because I could not bring myself to buy that crap.

    • Wait… The Annihilus wave made the Toybiz figures trash? You need to look into Marvel Legend history a little deeper. Also, Toybiz put efforts into their figures like Hasbro never will. Hasbro would never sculpt Captain Americas classic chain mail armor.

      • Toybiz is the foundation of what we are currently enjoying called Marvel Legends.
Hasbro improves those old figures As well aa thier own.
Guardian,Mystique, and Wendigo as the article says are all HML 2nd attempts.
It’s all complementary. Therefore it’s all good.
        Prosperity to all
        Happy collecting!

    • I care and I am a big FAN of the SMALL toys. I have figures that range from 1 inch to two feet tall.
Marvel is crushing it as most of that is Minimates, Marvel Legends, and Marvel Universe.
Army building is much simpler at a smaller size for me. I also collect Transformers and GIJoes,so my armies consist of squads of Cobras as well as AIM and Hydra troops running underfoot of my Autobots and Decepticons!

The Hasbro ML are where I started in 06′. People do not like change,so I learned to deal with TB fans that hated the change.
The fact is love or hate TML I’m thankful for them being the beginnings of what we have today.
TB started this whole thing in 02′ with Spider-Man classics.

The BAF idea is thanks to TML.
Galactus was BAF #1. I bought one at a toy show for $10.
Years later I sold it. I liked the lights& sound HMU Galactus better.
Yet,I still have the TML Giantman, Apocalypse, MODOK, and two Sentinels and looking for one more to add to my squad of Sentinels.
Yes I’m building the current HML Apocalypse(he’s my favorite mutant villain)he’s going to complement the 3.75″ ver and TML 14″ BAF versions beautifully. As do my afore mentioned 3.75″ AIM troops surrounding TML MODOK.
Point being the two work together.
TML & HML. Marvel Legends is Marvel Legends.
We all have things we love and things we don’t.
      It is what it is–

HML first and last 15″ BAF was that awesome FinFangFoom.
TML was weak in rendering females.
      HML makes curvy lovely ladies.
      TML overdid poa,and paintwahes.
      HML heavily rehashes BAFs.
      Hey,nobody is perfect!
Let’s just help each other the best we can.
      Happy collecting!
      Peace and prosperity!

  12. Glad they made Guardian. Now I can stop considering making a custom from a Captain Britain figure. I’m happy for the Alpha Flight love. Now we need a Shaman. He’s never been made. Wendigo is a good choice too but I agree his face is weird looking and not the classic Wendigo that I remember. Also, slightly too big if he is on the Sasquatch body. I’ll stick with the original one from the Fin Fang Foom series.

    • Right on. Shaman and Snowbird are going to be the tricky ones to have Hasbro make. And to finish off classic Alpha Flight, what are the odds of ever seeing Marina? Hopefully a Walgreens or Game Stop exclusive? Gots my fingers, eyes and toes crossed!

  13. I see Hasbro is continuing the trend of creating mostly subpar figures, while delivering outstanding figures of less popular characters sprinkled here and there..

Weapon X looks where all the budget went, just fantastic in all aspects. Mystique looks cool at first glance with a amazing head sculpt and a skull belt with plenty of detail. But the skinny, shapeless female buck they are using is atrocious and ruining what could have been the best Mystique figure ever (same issue with Psylocke and Elektra). Guardian has a cool pearlescent paint job, which is just about the only good thing about him. I hope he comes with a extra head sculpt, because the one in the pictures is… not very good..

  14. Mystique is a must-have for me. Guardian and Weapon X look good but are not figures I would hunt down specifically. I’m not really feeling Wendigo at the moment but will reserve final judgement until we get a better look at the final product.
That said, I think people would have been much more excited about a Beast BAF – they could use a similar head to wendigo, re-use some sasquatch parts but use some new parts as well – maybe even have an alternate head so fans can go with their preferred look for beast.
