DST Venom Bust & Premier Collection Lady Deadpool Statue!

Diamond Select Toys is expanding their range of Marvel statues faster than any other company in the collecting landscape, and that trend continues the latest round of solicitations. After unveiling their first-ever Marvel 1:2 (half-scale) bust in the spring with a very impressive Deadpool, DST has their second entry ready to launch: the Marvel Venom Bust is now up for order! But those who prefer their traditional full statue resin offerings to busts aren’t left out in the cold, as Premier Collection Lady Deadpool is on the scene as well…

Venom 1:2 Scale Bust by Diamond Select Toys

Even though Bowen Designs mini busts were my gateway into statue collecting 20 years ago, I’ve generally steered away from large scale busts. The $800-$1000 life-size busts from Sideshow Collectibles, PCS Toys and other companies making large-scale busts have always just been way outside the price-range of what I’m willing to spend on a bust.

But when Diamond Select showed off their 1:2 scale Deadpool bust for about 1/8th the price of a life-size bust a few months back, they really got my attention. And with their second announcement in the line today, I’m almost ready to jump on-board for Venom!

Side View of DST Venom Half Scale BustWhile Deadpool is almost unquestionably Marvel’s hottest character right now, Venom is certainly in the upper-echelon of similarly popular characters—and with the Venom movie opening this fall, he’s likely to become even more marketable.

Diamond Select Toys Venom Bust Half ScaleBetween the extended tongue, textured symbiote “skin” and translucent green ooze, I think this 10″ DST Venom Bust is going to be a real attention-grabber that sells through quickly–especially with a rock-bottom price-point of $150 (and cheaper for those who pre-order) and a limited edition run size of just 1000 pieces. If DST wanted to make a statement with their first resin Marvel busts, I would say they’re definitely succeeding.

Marvel Premier Collection Lady Deadpool Statue DSTAnd speaking of Deadpool–he’s making his own appearance in this month’s Diamond Select Toys solicitations–as a “she”! Lady Deadpool is a character who has really defied my expectations with her surprising level of notoriety and quick merch sales despite not exactly being an “A-List” character.

Lady Deadpool DST Resin Statue Marvel Premier CollectionI had the opportunity to see this Marvel Premier Collection Lady Deadpool statue make its worldwide debut at New York Toy Fair 2018, and I was really impressed with the look of the piece there. I think this is an instance where the official photos just don’t manage to capture how good a statue is.

For 150 bucks or less, I think Diamond Select’s Lady Deadpool statue quite frankly blows away the $675 Sideshow Lady Deadpool Premium Format Figure in aesthetic, practicality, and sexiness. I don’t imagine that this is a character that I will ever feel the need to own a large statue of–but if it was, I’d certainly be aiming for the DST Lady Deadpool and not Sideshow’s.

Toy Fair 2018 Marvel Premier Collection Lady Deadpool StatueThe Marvel Premier Collection Lady Deadpool Statue and 1:2 Venom Bust are now available for order, and are expected to arrive in December 2018/January 2019. EE and BBTS have both pieces discounted to $135 ($15 off) for pre-orders, although EE’s free shipping wins the day as far as overall pricing on these go. With 3000 Lady Deadpool statues being produced, I think they’ll be enough of those to go around up until arrival–the Venom bust I am not as sure about.

What are your thoughts on the latest additions to the Marvel Premier Collection and 1/2 Scale Bust series, Marvel collectors? Is DST successfully grabbing your attention with their half-life-size busts, and if not, what would you like to see improved? Meanwhile, anyone psyched for this Lady Deadpool Premier statue? (And if so, can you explain the appeal of the character to me?)

  1. Congrats to Diamond for making statues affordable again! I don’t buy all of them, but Thanos was a *gem* for it’s price and I’m also looking forward to the Cable/DP/Domino trio. I’m also hoping they will extend their series with other publishers such as DC or even non-superhero characters such as e.g. GI Joe (the Prime1 statues are fantastic, but way more than I’m willing to pay) and others.
