Way back in April 2014, word leaked out via listings in the Barnes and Noble database that Funko had a quartet of Funko Thor The Dark World movie POP! Vinyls coming our way later on in the year. I figured once that happened, Funko would be officially announcing the whole wave of Thor The Dark World Funko POP! Vinyls any day. That obviously didn’t happen. But today, a quarter-year later, Funko is finally prepared to show off their four latest Funko Marvel POP Vinyls: Odin, Lady Sif, Heimdall and a new helmeted Loki are now up for order!
What was unexpected, however, was that we heard about these new Thor: The Dark World POP! Vinyls so far in advance of their actual unveiling.
A prototype of the Funko Heimdaill POP! Vinyl figure surfaced online last month, which I posted to the Marvel Toy News Facebook Page (and if you’re not following the Marvel Toy News Facebook page, you should be). Once we saw the finished sculpt for Heimdall, I had a hunch we’d be seeing the remaining three Thor Funko POP! Vinyls sooner than later. And sure enough–here they are!
I’m actually very curious to see how well these Funko Asgardians POP! Vinyls figures do at retail. They’re unfortunately going to hit stores almost a year after the release of Thor: The Dark World (I expect these Funko Marvel Thor: The Dark Word figures to hit in August 2014, by the way), and three of the four characters are secondary characters that don’t exactly have the most massive fan-base.
It seems a little weird to get a Heimdall Funko POP! Vinyl when we still don’t even have a Funko Hawkeye (movie version of otherwise), but I’m happy to see the depth of the Funko Marvel movie figures line expanding. And hey, since she was featured in one episode, we can even consider the Funko Lady Sif to be our second Funko Agents of SHIELD figure!
I imagine that this particular Loki Funko figure is going to raise a lot of collectors’ eyebrows, and this release is definitely going to make folks who paid $500+ for the SDCC 2012 Funko Loki exclusive POP! Vinyls figure majorly ticked off.
The Funko Thor Movie POP! Vinyls are now available for pre-order for $9.99 each, and are scheduled for release in October 2014.
What do you think of the newly-revealed quartet of Thor The Dark World Funko POP! Vinyls figures, Marvel collectors? Has Funko gone too obscure with their movie choices this time out, or will you be welcoming this group of Asgardians into your Marvel collection?
