Of all the various Avengers Age of Ultron toy lines out there, the sole one that I immediately wrote off as being junk was the Hasbro 4″ Avengers Age of Ultron figures. With the line’s wonky paint deco and five points of articulation, I genuinely thought that Hasbro had zero plans for this line that would get collectors excited. I was wrong. Coming soon to Avengers Age of Ultron 4″: Scarlet Witch, Ultron 2.0 and Iron Legion figures!
But Hasbro must have wanted to defy the judgments of the naysayers this time, because they’ve got five additional figures for the 4″ Age of Ultron line produced and on their way to stores now!
Marvel Universe Avengers Age of Ultron Wave 2 will include:
- Scarlet Witch (!!)
- Ultron 2.0
- Iron Legion
- War Machine
- Loki
I know that there will be a lot of hate for the fact that we’re getting a movie Scarlet Witch figure in the Marvel Universe scale instead of the Marvel Legends scale, but it is a lot faster to produce a low-detail, 5POA Scarlet Witch figure than it is an authentic, super-articulated Marvel Legends movie Scarlet Witch.
While I abhor five points of articulation figures in general, I think Scarlet Witch may be “okay” in this style. She’s not Black Widow or anything, so I think a figure of her with (very) limited articulation may be acceptable. And Scarlet Witch sculpt at least looks better than most of the other Happy Meal toy-looking figures in this line.
What I do think is a little bizarre is that the 3 3/4″ Scarlet Witch Hasbro figure comes with the exact same (awesome) translucent pink hex effects pieces as the 6″ Marvel Legends Scarlet Witch that came out this winter. I love these effects, but c’mon–they’re big enough for this movie Scarlet Witch figure to use as hula hoops!
I doubt anyone would consider the inclusions of a 4″ Iron Legion figure and a War Machine to be a surprise here, as Hasbro has countless Iron Man and War Machine molds sitting around that they can repaint for a minimum cost of development. I badly want to like this Iron Legion figure, as I think the armor design is actually pretty cool, but this mold doesn’t look so hot painted up in the Iron Legion colors.
This new Avengers Age of Ultron Loki figure has zero–zero–likeness to Tom Hiddleston, as it was never meant to be a movie-based Loki figure to begin with. It’s not a straight repaint, however–the green and black areas of the figure have been swapped since his previous release (dollar store Loki owners, take heart!).
The 4″ Ultron 2.0 action figure, on the other hand, looks like an all-new sculpt to me (and if Hasbro has reused an old mold for him, I don’t know what it is.) This is a decent enough Ultron, I suppose, but I think I’m going to stick to my Hot Toys Ultron Prime and Marvel Legends Ultron Build-A-Figure this year and forgo the Happy Meal toy-like version of Ultron.
Are you happy to see the Avengers Age of Ultron Marvel Universe scaled line expanding, Marvel fans? Or will you be passing on the five figures that make up 4″ Avengers AOU Wave 2 (even Scarlet Witch)?
I MIGHT pick them up just to feel that my 3 3/4 line is complete. I´ve collected movie 3 inch figures since 2008 It would be a shame to not include at least a couple AOU figures.
well said sir. I agree
I’m super excited for any Scarlet Witch Hasbro gives us this year and I can’t wait to see if we get a Quicksilver too.
Oh and It looks like Loki’s packaging is different and doesn’t bare the AOU logo.
War machine must be popular because he is getting a lot of stuff even though he wasn’t suited up in any of the trailers.
It’s awesome to see War Machine getting so much stuff. I wonder if that hints that he has a bigger role than the trailers have hinted.
Loki makes sense since Idris Elba confirmed a while back that Loki and Heimdall do make some sort of appearance in the film.
I will totally pick up that Scarlet Witch just for those Hex effects.
The Ultron looks decent and well sculpted. He’s not the most articulate character. So I will get him to stand menacingly on my movie shelf. Scarlet Witch is not to bad since this is the only large figure of her we have seen. So I will pick her up too. I’ll be shocked if we get Quicksilver and Vision.
Has anyone found Wanda at retail yet? If so, would you mind sharing which store — whether bricks & mortar or online? Thanks!!
eBay currently has a single listing (of an in-hand packaged figure) and bidding is already upwards of $50!!! Craziness.
Guys please make more villians, like aim, hydra, firelord, terrax, mephisto, and other characters that was not made before from other series..thanks..
The articulation for MCU 3.75 movie figs gets worse and worse, they are not even as good as the other Marvrl Universe line…I can’t get myself to collect them anymore until they make them at least to the level of the rest of the 3.75 Marvel Universe line.
These bite
Hasbro has no vision for this line. They must be trying to keep it Loki.
found one at tru. Good hunting.
