Hasbro 4″ Avengers Age of Ultron Figures Released & Photos!

Although some stores started accidentally putting product out on the shelves weeks ago, this week is the official launch window for the majority of the Avengers: Age of Ultron toys! And, as with most Marvel Studios films, Hasbro has now released a series of Marvel Universe-scale 4″ Avengers of Ultron toys. But while the Hasbro 4″ Marvel figures are traditionally some of their most beloved offerings, I have a feeling that the Avengers Age of Ultron All-Stars Figures are not going to be welcomed with warms, loving arms by many collectors…

Avengers Age of Ultron All Star Iron Man Figure

As soon as I saw the first image of Hasbro’s 3 3/4″ Avengers Age of Ultron action figures, I knew that the line was going to be a bust. See, while we’ve become accustomed to super-detailed, super-articulated Hasbro Marvel action figures in this scale over the past half-decade, it appears that those days are coming to a close.

Hasbro is now favoring the under-detailed, under-articulated 2.5″ figure scale as a cheap alternative to the classic 3 3/4″ Marvel Universe scale, and from this point on, we can expect the majority of the figures in the MU scale (that aren’t repaints of old figures) to feature inferior sculpts and paint, along with a mighty five points of articulation.

Hasbro 4" Avengers Age of Ultron Captain America Close-Up EyesAvengers Age of Ultron All-Stars Series 1 includes four figures:

  • Avengers Age of Ultron All-Stars Iron Man Figure
  • Avengers Age of Ultron All-Stars Captain America Figure
  • Avengers Age of Ultron All-Stars Hulk Figure
  • Avengers Age of Ultron All-Stars Thor Figure

Yes, I’m sure it will surprise no one that only the “core” four Avengers are represented here (although I’m not so sure I’d want to see what a Scarlett Johansson would look like in this line anyway).

Hasbro Avengers All-Stars Iron Man Mark 43 Figure CardbackNow, given that there were no Guardians of the Galaxy movie 4″ figures released, you would think that anything Hasbro released in this scale for Avengers AOU would be an improvement. But having seen these figures in person, well… I’m not sure that that’s really the case.

Hasbro Avengers Age of Ultron Thor 3 3/4" FigureThere are some positives to these figures: the fact that they have individualized cardbacks (with lowest common denominator bios such as “Tony Stark’s ultra high-tech armored suit makes him an unstoppable Super Hero!”) and that three of the four figures include an accessory (Cap’s shield, Iron Man’s energy effects piece, Thor’s cape and hammer).

But by and large, these are action figures that were designed purely for children and are not action figures that will appeal to collectors.

I’m not a stone-cold naysayer to five points of articulation figures–Hasbro has actually released some pretty nice-looking 5POA Rebels figures in the past year. But these, well… these look really bad. Even as a kid, I don’t think I would have been satisfied with figures that looks like these.

The paint deco on these figures is sloppy–not to mention leaving the vast majority of details on Iron Man Mark 43’s armor totally unpainted. With the limited articulation, sub-par sculpting and lack of major paint details, these feel more like glorified 1990’s Happy Meal Toys to me than Hasbro product that I’d go into a store and pay actual money for.

Avengers Age of Ultron All Star Captain America FigureThe Hasbro Avengers Age of Ultron All-Star figures are available online as a set for $24.99, and are retailing for $5-$6 (plus tax) individually in retail stores. As much as I’ve loved collecting Marvel Universe and Marvel Infinite Series figures in this scale over the years, these are not for me, but your collecting tastes may vary.

What do you think of the Avengers Age of Ultron 3 3/4″ figures series, Marvel fans? Is anyone out there planning to pick up these figures for any reason, or are you planning to vote with your dollars and stay far away from the Avengers Age of Ultron All Stars figures?

  1. These deserve to be in a McDonalds kid meal. When I was younger 3 3/4 inch figures were aimed for both kids AND collectors. I don’t understand why Hasbro thinks 3 3/4 inch figures are now aimed for kids. This is absurd. We need a petition to bring back Marvel Universe figures both Movie and Comic versions!

  2. Awful…just awful. Looks like the days of collecting 3.75″ marvel figures are pretty much over. It was good while it lasted.

  3. colecciono legends …. pero siempre eh adquirido algun universe que me gustara …. pero estos son feos de verdad

  4. Picked up the Cap, because I pick up just about all of his figures. When I saw it on the peg from afar, I knew it’d be a stinker. These are pretty bad. Makes me reconsider collecting…

  5. I saw these at both my local Target and Toys R Us, and with the exception of Thor (I’ve been wanting a Mjolnir at that scale for my Marvel Universe Storm), these are a total pass.

  6. Easily one of the worst iron mans I’ve ever seen! Terrible paint jobs. Hulk saves this set from a total disaster, although I will be passing–it’s not one of my favorite hulks. I don’t understand why Hasbro is ignoring customers and making lesser quality products like we’re junkies willing to buy anything of our favorite comic heroes. Kids are just like adults–they want something cool and functional!

    • Most adult collectors buying habits prove them right, that’s why they do it. See Ric Kage’s comment below as an example. Hasbro feels comfortable doing what they do because most of you will buy wharever they put out anyway. It’s been proven, and worse, even defended by many collectors. Buy what you like, of course, but don’t try to convince me that these 5 POA figures are something to be applauded.

  7. Beautiful balance,e-4, to e-5. A solid and pragmatic skill.
Bravo, Hasbro. Bravo. See, it is not like zugzwag, no. misdirection is too easy. The game is at end before it begins! I like these. Not enough to buy them. Just on principle. The shift to 2.5″for Gotg was only logical for refreshing the brand and providing vehicles. 3.75″ had to be made a”queen sacrifice”as it was already dying as a movie property. Those Ironman figures hung around in stores a very long time with abysmal sales. Hulk,Cap and Tony have run the 3.75″gambit to obnoxious proportions.
There are a myriad of iterations in past lines:MU, Movie Avenger, Avenger Assemble…etc. Like the comics that spawned them,it’s time for a reboot/ retcon/refresh. Thanos wave of Marvel legends is giving us movie versions of Cap,Hulk and Im and, well, Thanos!
I state this as a big fan of the SMALL toys,MU/Marvel infinite series 3.75″ is the pinnacle of marvel figures at 1/18th scale.
I bought the 3.75″ 1st quinjet, and happily plan to get the new one in the 2.5scale. I have nothing negative to say about these movie avengers toys.
Good wishes to all the bigkids and little kids alike that find joy in these figures.

  8. After seen just how sh**ty these are in person, I’m glad they didn’t make a Black Widow version!

  9. I personally think Cap is the only one that is worth getting if you can find him with a good paint job, he is a new sculpt and decently detailed, I like the arm and leg sculpt, the abdomen does need work, even the metallic blue looks nice. Iron man is garbage, Thor’s head sculpt is more accurate than Dark World sculpt wise, the paint job is pale, the detail is a step down from Dark World, Hulk’s face is off with the bulging eyes, but descent body. Overall, THEY ALL SUCK EXCEPT FOR SOME PARTS OF CAP, HULK’S BODY BUT I DON’T SEEM TO CARE ABOUT THAT AND THOR’S HEAD.

  10. It is frankly disgraceful and dont think its just adult collectors, my son has been collecting this range of figures since he was 3 years old, he is now nearing 8.

He would not touch these cheap poorly articuated figures as they are harder to play with as well.

Luckily he already has the movie versions of all these guys, but he will have to miss out on the movie versions of Hulkbuster, Ultron, and the Twins.

They are also doing this with Swars figures and it just reeks, I hope no one buys these as Kids should be treated with more respect.

He could start collecting the Legends, but his collection is already so huge it would be impossible to start again and he already collects DC figures in the 6″ range.

If I thought it would do any good I’d write a complaint to Hasbro, but let’s be honest all they care about is the money they are saving doing this.

  11. Saw these yesterday and the 2″ figures. Horrible. I won’t by them for the kids. They won’t want them anyway. They really used to the better Hasbro figs that they don’t make anymore. When will this trend stop?

  12. I am SO dissapointed. Hasbro barely stopped making MU figures and it instantly reduces to 5 poa figures for Avengers 2?

  13. If u buy they will continue. Pass. Pass. Pass. Bring back the 12 points of articulation or more. Any less is garbage. Do not give in to their cheap penny pinching ways. Or u will see continually worse product.
