Hasbro SDCC 2015 Exclusive Ant-Man Figures Box Set!

With no substantial rumors swirling about and no leaked images of unknown Marvel Infinite Series 3 3/4″ figures surfacing from overseas scrappers, I’ve had my doubts for a while now that we would actually see any kind of exclusive SDCC 2015 Marvel Universe figures set from Hasbro. Well, I think we can effectively put the nail in the coffin of any chance of a SDCC 2015 Exclusive Marvel Infinite Series exclusive set today, as Hasbro has revealed its final two Comic-Con exclusive Marvel items: six figures themed around Ant-Man! But hey… one of them is 3 3/4″. That’s pretty good, right…?

Hasbro SDCC 2015 Ant-Man Box Set

News broke this morning revealing the final two Hasbro Marvel SDCC 2015 exclusives. I know that there were plenty of collectors (including me) that were hoping for some never-before-done 4″ Marvel Universe scale figures, but as speculated, that just was not in the cards. But what we are getting is a set that could sort of be considered an extension of the Marvel Universe line: the Ant-Man SDCC 2015 box set!

See, the default “standard-sized” figure in this set is a Hank Pym Ant-Man figure with lab coat and removable helmet–which happens to be in the 3 3/4″ Marvel Infinite Series size. That’s important, because the other four figures in this set are all using Pym Particles to alter their sizes.

SDCC 2015 Ant-Man Figures Box Set Hasbro ExclusiveThe set will include four figures in addition to the Marvel Universe Ant-Man: an oversized 12″ Giant-Man figure (wearing the modern Avengers Academy Giant-Man costume), a 6″ Goliath figure, a 1.5″ Scott Lang Ant-Man figure and a 1″ Ant-Man Hank Pym figurine. We’ve had a Marvel Legends Goliath 6″ figure before, but that figure was in blue and yellow and not blue and gold, so this is sort of a new Marvel Legends figure. From a certain point of view.

The set will retail for $64.99, which seems a bit high for what we’re getting here. I guess if you attribute $15 to the 4″ Ant-Man, $20 to the 6″ Goliath, $25 to the 12″ Giant-Man and $5 for the two mini Antman figures it works out, but it does still seem a mite expensive. Of course, the cool cardboard Ant-Man helmet box that this set comes in (with moving antennae!) has to be taken into account as well, I suppose.

Meanwhile, the other Hasbro Ant-Man exclusive will be what is most likely the most overpriced con exclusive in history: a .75″ non-articulated Ant-Man movie figure in a Pym Technologies “Matchbox” for $9.99.

This is… cute… and all, but also grotesquely overpriced for 10 bucks. This exclusive is probably costing Hasbro a combined total of a nickel to produce between the figurine and the packaging, and while neat, is not something that I think every collector is going to feel a burning desire to pay 10 bucks for.

SDCC 2015 Exclusive Ant-Man Hasbro Figures SetBoth of these Ant-Man Hasbro products will be exclusive to next month’s San Diego Comic-Con 2015 convention, which runs July 8th-12th 2015. (Very) limited quantities of these items will be available on the Hasbro Toy Shop website after the show–but in the case of these particular Ant-Man sets, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s rather easy to get them after the con.

What do you think of the last two Hasbro SDCC 2015 Marvel action figure exclusive sets, Marvel collectors? Are either (or both!) of these Ant-Man toys a must for your collection?

  1. The blue & gold/yellow figures referenced here are “Goliath” — not “Yellowjacket” — correct?

Also, do we know if the Hank Pym figure is modeled after Michael Douglas?

    • Yup, it’s Goliath. I had Yellowjacket on the brain because I was thinking of how disappointed I was that there’s no exclusive movie Yellowjacket figure coming from Hasbro. Alas.

    • The Hank Pym figure is a comic version. So it is not modeled after Michael Douglas.

  2. you know I find it really frustrating when they focus on Hank Pym for the Ant-man (granted he was the first) when he hasn’t been ant-man for 40 year. Scott Lang has been Ant-man way longer.

    • I think unfortunately it’s that Hank has a lot more stories and variant costumes, so it’s easier to make merchandise off that.

  3. I like the box set a lot, but I don’t think the price is so bad for an SDCC exclusive. Seems like a better deal than the Thanos sets last year. I wouldn’t credit any value to the mini figures since there aren’t any other accessories, but I think the Giant Man would retail for at least $30 (and I would pay it). Alas, I don’t think the 3.75 line is worth more than $10, no matter what the stores are charging these days. I’ll have to think about it a bit and might get it if I see it on HTS.

  4. The previous Goliath was like 8-9 inches and much bulkier, so this new one is TOTALLY different 🙂

    • I don’t live anywhere near San Diego so I’ll probably never get my hands on it.

  5. Is it just me or are the number of exclusives the same as the number of regular released-to-the-public waves? It certainly feels like 1/3rd or even half of all released figures are exclusives of some kind.

    • Unknown. Sometimes Hasbro has the exclusives ready to go up for sale literally the morning after Comic-Con, and sometimes they make collectors wait weeks. No one knows but Hasbro.

  6. Gotta get this set, especially since we are getting a 6 inch Giant-man in the red and black costume in the Ant-man wave. Too bad they aren’t using the 12 inch Giant-man for a future build-a-figure, so everyone could have a regular size and a larger one for play/display.

  7. Second 3 3/4 figure for the movie and it’s again part of a pack I don’t want. Disappointed in the merchandising effort here. I just want a standard line of figures.

  8. I’m seeing this set pop up on my facebook feed. I think some people who got press passes to SDCC2015 are getting a free copy as a gift. Meanwhile, everyone else is waiting until those press people post their wares on eBay. :/
