Ever since the first four members of the Hot Toys Guardians of the Galaxy figures set were put up for order in 2014 (yes, 2014), fans have been waiting (im)patiently for Drax to complete the team. But despite intermittently being shown at events, Drax never came. Many collectors had given up hope the GOTG would ever be complete. But doubt no longer: the Hot Toys Drax sixth scale figure is now up for order!

And so, over a year and a half–yes, a year and a half–after the rest of the team did so, the Guardians of the Galaxy Hot Toys Drax figure is finally going up for order this week.

Excuse me while my head explodes.

I really, truly thought Hot Toys was gonna skip out on Drax completely until Guardians of the Galaxy 2, but thankfully, they’re making right by fans and actually releasing this immensely demanded Drax MMS at last.

The hold-up for Drax can be attributed to many factors, but I think it’s more likely the delay was due to the need to develop a whole new upper-body mold than any kind of actor likeness approval issues.

Drax the Destroyer has an all-new muscular upper-body covered in tattoos. While this body isn’t quite as jacked as many fans are remembering Dave Bautista looking in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, it’s looking pretty good to me.

As far as the head sculpt goes… I think it’s fine. Drax spends a lot more time during the movie with a neutral expression than he does with a hate-filled, murderous gaze, so I’m fine with the non-aggressive expression chosen for the head sculpt of this figure.

An angry alternate head would have been nice, but I guess we’ll have to wait for Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 for that.

When we saw Drax displayed with his “Cherrybomb” red pants at an event last summer, I was hoping it meant that HT was planning to give us change-o-pants for The Destroyer (and not planning to make us buy him him twice for his two “costumes”). And they are.

The 12″ Drax Hot Toys is the first Marvel MMS that I can ever recall coming with alternate pants, so you can have Drax in his casual black pants or chilling in his final battle crimson pants.

As far as weapons go, the 1/6 Drax Hot Toys figure comes with all three that make sense: his pair of quasi-iconic knives (that have both paint deco and sculpting detail!) and the high-powered rocket launcher from the end of the movie. Score! I was hoping we’d be getting this Rocket Launcher when we see an alternate hand sneak peeked with a trigger finger last summer.

In addition, he’ll come with several alternate hands and a GOTG collector’s base figure stand to match the rest of the team.

The Hot Toys Drax sixth scale figure goes up for order this week, and is expected to be released in winter 2016. I’m not altogether thrilled about having to wait another half a year to complete my 1/6 GOTG, but hey–better late than never. I wouldn’t even consider missing this pre-order!
