Face facts: Getting a bazillion Hot Toys Iron Man figures from every movie he appears in is becoming as inevitable and death and taxes. And Hot Toys collectors wouldn’t have it any other way! So it would be pretty silly to say that anyone was surprised when Hot Toys announced today that they will be releasing another three Iron Man figures based on this summer’s Iron Man 3 movie: the Heartbreaker, the Mark Igor armor, and the Red Snapper armor. Now, what may actually surprise collectors is that the three Hot Toys Iron Man 3 armors are coming for three different series…
The Iron Man 3 Mark 38 Igor Heavy Lifting Suit is my personal favorite Iron Man 3 armor revealed so far, and the one that is the closest to the ever-popular Iron Man Hulkbuster Armor from the comics. This is the first Igor Iron Man figure announced by any company, and I’m psyched to see it becoming a reality in the original (plastic) Movie Masterpiece Series. This likely has to do with the Igor armor’s unusual shape and larger size (and the fact that its weight would likely shatter detolfs), but the precedent now exists for future plastic Iron Man Movie Masterpiece figures.
And speaking of the Iron Man 3 Movie Masterpiece Die-Cast Series, the much-loved Iron Man Heartbreaker Mark 17 armor figure will be joining that series! The Mark 17 Heartbreaker Artillery Level RT Suit is easily the most talked-about and popular new armor that’s been revealed for the Iron Man 3 movie, and Hot Toys is wisely confident that they can sell boatloads of them at $300+ in the Iron Man die-cast Movie Masterpiece Series.
Finally, there’s one more Iron Man 3 armor debuting in the much-ignored Hot Toys Power Pose Series: the Iron Man Red Snapper Mark 35 armor. The Mark 35 Red Snapper Disaster Suit is another of the more unique Iron Man 3 armors, and has an aesthetic that collectors might not be willing to shell out $250-$350 for. The less-articulated (and less popular) Hot Toys Power Pose Series is still 1/6 scale and will fit in with the Movie Masterpiece Iron Man 3 figures, and with its retail price of $165-$180 the Power Pose Series may be the right choice for the Red Snapper Iron Man armor.
I’m sure this is merely the tip of the iceberg for Hot Toys Iron Man 3 releases, but this trio of Iron Man 3 announcements should definitely get collectors fired up! I’ll post links to order all three new Hot Toys Iron Man 3 armors as soon as they’re up for pre-order on the Sideshow Collectibles’ website, which may be as early as Thursday, April 18th.
