Last month Hot Toys released a teaser poster, giving us our first look at the Hot Toys 2014 Toy Fairs Exclusive figures–including (as expected) another Iron Man figure from Iron Man 3. I wrote about two-thirds of an article overnight discussing what I thought the exclusive was going to be and why based off of the teaser photo, but then Hot Toys had to go and spoil the whole thing by doing a full reveal the next morning. Get it while it lasts (which won’t be long)–the exclusive Iron Man 3 Hot Toys Python Iron Man Mark XX figure is now up for order!
I’m all about Iron Man 3 and the realization of the entire House Party Protocol in Hot Toys form, so I was delighted to see that Hot Toys was expanding the Iron Man 3 Movie Masterpiece Series line again with their 2014 Toy Fairs Exclusive Iron Man sixth scale figure.
I know that there’s a significant amount of fans out there who are sick to death of Hot Toys releasing Iron Man figures, but I love ’em. Don’t hate me.
On the one hand, I think it’s very cool that we’re finally getting a Black/Gold Iron Man armor in Hot Toys form. I love this color scheme for Iron Man to death, and it’s close enough to pass for a Marvel NOW! Iron Man Hot Toys figure.
I also like that Hot Toys picked a figure this time that they would have to kitbash from various existing figures, rather than a straight-up repaint of one particular Iron Man armor. The Python Iron Man Hot Toys figure features the Iron Man Mark VII upper torso body, the Mark XVII Heartbreaker Iron Man Mark legs and the Mark 33 Silver Centurion Iron Man head. This is an armor that would quite difficult and expensive to assemble all the pieces for to do as a custom yourself.
Even so, this is among the least-exciting Iron Man 1/6 figures that Hot Toys has produced. After such unique releases as the Starboost Iron Man and Igor Iron Man, Python Iron Man is a bit of a let-down. I would have absolutely dropped dead with excitement for an Iron Man Bones Armor Mark XLI Hot Toys figure, but that would have required way too much new tooling for a limited, exclusive release (although now Hot Toys has put Bones Iron Man up for order as well! Now that’s service!).
The 2014 Toy Fair Exclusive Hot Toys Iron Man Mark 20 Python sixth scale figure is available for purchase in the United States exclusively through Sideshow Collectibles–it can’t be ordered from any other U.S. retailer.
The Hot Toys Toy Fairs Exclusive Iron Man Mark XX Python figure is now up for order, with an expected shipping date of August 2014. This figure is obviously going to sell out far, far faster than your typical Iron Man Hot Toys figure, so absolutely order as soon as possible if you want this one–this figure will sell out within 2-3 days (for real).
What do you think of this year’s Hot Toys exclusive Iron Man Python figure, Marvel collectors? Are you amped to add another Iron Man to your Hall of Armor, or is the Mark XX Python armor not an Iron Man armor permutation that you’re jazzed about?
Ill get one. Til then ill wait for Hot Toys to eventually release what we really want.
