Iron Studios Guardians of the Galaxy vs. Obelisk Statues!

Last month, Iron Studios got my attention when they showed off their really neat comic-based Spider-Man and friends on bridge Battle Diorama Series statues. This month, Iron Studios apparently wants more than just my attention–they want my money. And the easiest way to get it out of me is the same as always–with the Guardians of the Galaxy! It’s an iconic scene I never expected to see made in statue form–the Iron Studios Guardians of the Galaxy vs. The Obelisk statues are now up for order!

Iron Studios Guardians of the Galaxy vs. The Obelisk Statues

When we first saw Drax jumping at the Obelisk in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 trailer, my eyes sort of rolled at what I thought was going to be a pretty derivative scene in the film.

When I saw the way the battle with the Obelisk was actually handled in the movie–largely in the background while Baby Groot danced in the foreground–I was in love. Nothing will ever match the original GOTG movie title scene for me, but man–this was close.

Because the Obelisk is a gigantic monster, I really never expected to see this scene captured outside of LEGO, as the scale of a statue set didn’t seem like something any company would be willing to take a chance on.

Iron Studios Star-Lord vs. The Obelisk StatueBut I guess Iron Studios isn’t just any company, because they’ve now put up for order a four-statue diorama set that recreates this crazy movie scene in all it’s wild glory!

Iron Studios Drax Statue Jumping At ObeliskRather than selling this huge scene as one big set, collectors have the option of buying any combination of the statues that make up this scene. Rocket (with Baby Groot), Star-Lord, Drax and Gamora are all available for purchase individually, with each coming with its own Obelisk tentacle.

Iron Studios Rocket Raccoon and Groot vs The Obelisk Deluxe Statue SetOf course, for those who want to recreate the whole epic scene (like me!), there’s an Iron Studios Deluxe Rocket Raccon & Groot statue set that includes the huge head of the Obelisk itself. To me, getting this version is a no-brainer–there’s just no point to getting these statues and not the Obelisk head, IMO.

Guardians of the Galaxy Iron Studios Baby Groot Statue in Front of ObeliskAt 1:10 scale, these statues are in the same scale as the popular Kotobukiya ARTFX+ series, but somewhat more expensive because of the diorama bases and the fact that they’re made of resin and not plastic.

Iron Studios Deluxe Rocket Raccoon and Groot StatuesAnd while these statues are far from cheap ($109 for each character and $250 for Rocket and Groot plus the Obelisk), $500-ish really doesn’t seem like such a horrible price when you take into consideration that that’s the cost of just one Sideshow Premium Format Figure these days.

Iron Studios Gamora Statue Vs The Obelisk Closeup

Koto has really neglected GOTG with just one PVC statue released for each movie, so I’m really pleased to see Iron Studios giving us the whole team in movie form in a unique and dynamic way.

Iron Studios is the first company to really release GOTG MCU products that show off Gamora’s ferocity and Drax’s pure joy of battle, which is crucial to capturing those characters and long overdue.

Close-Up of Iron Studios Drax vs. The Obelisk Tentacle StatueThe Iron Studios Guardians of the Galaxy movie statues are now up for order, and are scheduled to be released in Q4 2017. I’m not sure how much of a market there is (outside of me) for a 1/10 GOTG Vol. 2 diorama of this nature, but to me, this setup is really cool and special.  I apologize if I’m a bit giddy about this set. If you couldn’t tell, I’m really excited about it.

What’s your thoughts on this 1/10 Guardians of the Galaxy Iron Studios set, Marvel collectors? How do you feel about collecting resin statues in this scale in general, and what do you think of the GOTG vs. The Obelisk diorama itself?

    • That’s why you just point to Star-Lord or whoever and just say “It only cost $109.99!” when she looks at the display. 😉
