The existence of the LEGO Marvel 2014 set featuring a LEGO Sentinel, Blackbird jet, and minifigures of Storm, Wolverine, Cyclops and Magneto is one of LEGO’s worst-kept secrets. Images of prototypes of the set have been circulating for months on various sites (including here), so it was a veritable certainty that the set would be shown at the New York Toy Fair 2014 this weekend. It was. The LEGO X-Men vs. The Sentinel 76022 set is coming in summer 2014!

When I saw the first leaked images of the LEGO Sentinel figure, I was pretty horrified by how it looked. After playing the LEGO Marvel video game, I had my heart set upon a giant minifigure Sentinel toy, and this lanky, weirdly-proportioned brick-built Sentinel just isn’t that. It’s sort of cool to have the opportunity to own a LEGO Sentinel toy, but I’m still very disappointed in the actual design and aesthetic of the one that’s being released this summer.

Toy Fair 2014 LEGO Marvel Sentinel and Magneto Figures from X-Men 76022 LEGO SetWhat I’m not disappointed in, however, is the awesome assortment of LEGO X-Men minifigures coming with LEGO 76022! First up, we get the second-ever LEGO Magneto minifigure. This time, the Magneto LEGO figure is garbed in his purple outfit from his tenure as headmaster of the Xavier school! I don’t think this figure has ever been made for a major action figure line (besides Minimates), so it’s really neat to see such an obscure Magneto variant make the cut for LEGO!

LEGO 76022 X-Men vs The Sentinel Box and Storm Minifigure Toy Fair 2014In addition to Magneto, we get three LEGO X-Men with the set: Storm, Cyclops, and Brown Costume Wolverine. The LEGO Storm minifigure is in her classic black costume from the early days of the X-Men, and has some very fun lightning bolt snap-on accessories that can be attached to her her hands. Wolverine’s mask is removable, and Cyclops is wearing his retro blue-and-yellow costume that he hasn’t worn in decades. Very nostalgic choices!

The 76022 LEGO X-Men Blackbird Jet is fairly unimpressive, largely due to the fact that this set is only 366 pieces. There’s just not enough pieces in this set to make the Blackbird LEGO X-Jet any bigger or more impressive (which is a real shame, since this set has an unexpectedly high $49.99 MSRP for just 366 pieces).

  1. Really disappointed with the Cyclops figure, was hoping for the Astonishing design from the LEGO Marvel video game. But anything is better than nothing!

  2. Just to clarify Magneto has indeed been made in this costume before in the Marvel Universe line but has never been featured in this costume in Minimate form. 🙂

    • You are totally right! And you know what’s sad? I own both the Marvel Universe Magneto in this costume and the Asteroid M Magneto Minimate I’m confusing it with! Oy!

  3. Feel like they should have given Cyclops hair like the Lego Marvel superheroes video game. It’s obvious though it’s meant to resemble Cyclops’ appearance in the more modern graphic novels. Still, I’ll be stealing some lego hair from my little box of legos just to snap it on Cyclops’ head. I think the Sentinel and the Jet aren’t very try-hard because we all know, inside, we’d buy this set even just for the minifigures. I do wish they used Jean Grey instead of Wolverine as Wolverine is already in his own set. Love the retro helmet though, that’s for sure =)
