Marvel Legends 2016 Fans Choice Finals Vote Announced!

It seems about a million years ago, but San Diego Comic-Con 2016 was still raging on just two weeks ago. And during that mega-event, Hasbro had their own toy event going on–the first round of the 2016 Marvel Legends Fan’s Choice Poll! And now that the dust has had a chance to settle, this week Hasbro announced the four finalists who will compete in the Marvel Legends 2016 Fans Choice Poll beginning next week!

Marvel Legends 2016 Fan's Choice Poll Finals

For those who missed the low-profile first round of this year’s Fan’s Choice Marvel Legends Poll, it took place exclusively on Instagram (yes, Instagram) last month during SDCC 2016.

The somewhat-limited pool of candidates included two members of the Deadpool Corps (Solo and Terror Inc.), two Symbiotes (Lasher and Scream), two founding Thunderbolts (Citizen V and Songbird) and two female villains (Typhoid Mary and the White Rabbit).

Marvel Legends Typhoid Mary vs LasherIn what has to be immensely distressing to Marvel, who are launching solo comic book series for Solo and other Deadpool Corps members this fall, both members of the Deadpool Corps went down in flames in the first round.

Marvel Legends Fans Choice Poll Citizen V vs ScreamIn addition, the two second-tier Symbiotes (Scream and Lasher) also made a hasty retreat to their home world in Round One. Alas–if this was fifteen years ago, Scream and Lasher would have had a legit chance of winning the whole poll (but it is not, and the star of these old-time symbioties has definitely fallen).

And so, only four contestants remain in Hasbro’s Marvel version of The Hunger Games: Citizen V, The White Rabbit, Songbird and Typhoid Mary.

Marvel Legends Songbird vs Solo Fan's Choice PollPersonally, I would say that this vote is Songbird’s to lose. As a founding member of the Thunderbolts and a high-profile member of several Avengers teams, a Marvel Legends Songbird figure would have more star-power (and sales potential) than any other figure included in this lineup.

That said, I absolutely hope that Songbird loses in this Fans Choice poll. Hasbro had a Marvel Legends Songbird scheduled for release as a singles figure before being cancelled a few years ago, and as that is one of the few remaining shown-but-never-released figures (along with poor Dani Moonstar), I have to believe Songbird will be in an upcoming Avengers Legends wave regardless of this poll.

Marvel Legends White Rabbit vs Terror Inc

A slightly updated re-release of the original Songbird 6″ figure seems like an inevitability at some point in the line, so I can’t bring myself to hope that dear ex-Screaming Mimi wins this vote.

On the other hand, Citizen V, Typhoid Mary and especially The White Rabbit all have much slimmer possibilities of getting six inch figures if they don’t win this vote. In fact, I would say a Marvel Legends White Rabbit figure is a near-impossibility without a victory in this vote.

Marvel Legends 2016 Fan's Choice Poll FinalsThe finals of the Marvel Legends 2016 Fans Choice Poll will take place next week on the official Marvel Facebook Page, beginning August 8th 2016. Finally, a Final Four that action figure collectors actually care about it!

What do you think of this year’s finalists in the Marvel Legends Fan’s Choice Poll (and the pool as a whole)? Are you happy with the characters chosen to participate in this year’s poll, and which one of these finalists is getting your vote next week?

Marvel Legends 2016 Fans Choice Finals Vote Announced! — 47 Comments

  1. I have no faith in our community, these are the same dumbasses who voted for Black suit Spiderman. They just vote for the character they’re most aquaninted with. I agree on white rabbit, and I’d love to have her and Walrus but I’ve wanted Typhoid Mary since I started collecting 5 years ago.

  2. I’m a little confused, I don’t seem to recall another 6 in Songbird figure ever produced? Am I just really bad at remembering figures or can someone help me and point out where and/or what the figure is? As far as I can see, the only female figures in the SDCC Thunderbolts set are Moonstone and Satana, but no Songbird? Could someone help me out?

    • No, there is absolutely nothing wrong with your memory. Dabid’s on the other hand is more than suspect (sorry Dabid)! The 2013 SDCC Marvel Legends exclusive Thunderbolts 5 pack had 2 females in it: Moonstone (featuring that excellent new female body sculpt) and Satana (she was called “Judith Chambers”, most likely to not use the name “Satan” so as not to offend. Political correctness. The death of us all).

      • Fail to see how not wanting to use the name of the father of all pieces of s*** is “PC”.

      • Yup, I mis-remembered the cancelled Songbird and Moonstone figures we saw at SDCC 2014 as both being redos from the Thunderbolts set, when only Moonstone was. Believe me, it makes me crazy when people are wrong on the internet, and I am suitably disgusted with myself about that mistake. =D

        • Haha it’s totally fine Dabid, everyone makes mistakes! I’m sure I’ll be making plenty in my comments on your articles from now on 🙂

    • Songbird was originally supposed to be release in the first version if the jubilee wave but that wave was cancelled with all except sb not been released

  3. We BADLY need a Songbird since, no, there has never been a Songbird figure.

I don’t actually think these results are right…..
I looked at those votes, and while I didn’t count them, it suuuuuure looked like the symbiotes both were winning their rounds…

Anyhow, Songbird and Citizen V will win this.

    • Gotta disagree. The 2 chicks take this easily! And even though it’s not the greatest indicators, the vast majority of people who said they voted at Comic-Con went with the 2 females overall. One of the design staff also felt Songbird was going to win with Mary coming in second, but like I said;nowhere near a conclusive indicator.

    • Absolutely Song and V should win, it’s about damn time we got some Tbolt love!

  4. I find all four to be a pathetic choice. So many untouched legends for us older collectors that need to be released before junk lame characters like these!

    • Don’t worry I’m sure Hasbro will release another classic 70’s or 80’s villain who ends up peg warming in the same wave.

      • Or some modern SJW version of the latest white person they’ve replaced with a nlack person, muslim or a woman that no self respecting comic fan would ever buy that the millennials will defend with their dying breath because tumblr.

        • Aaaand any respect I had for you from your reply to Dabid above, was lost the second I laid eyes upon this rambling, incoherent, spiteful mess of a comment.

          • Wrong, DB. I am currently very into Marvel, and am planning to possibly be getting (back) into DC with Rebirth, as they are very good jumping-on points. You’re just a bigoted asshole.

          • Yeah. Bigoted assholes are people who don’t like having things taken from them based only on their race. Stellar logic.

  5. None of these interest me in the least. I don’t care who wins it won’t make any difference to me.

    • Remove Dazzler? How dare you sir!!!

Unlike X-23, who has had versions released before, this is the first AND last time we will get a Dazzler!

Keep in mind, we are now getting XMEN figs every year going forward and with more X figs coming down the line AND a wolverine movie coming, it’s not a matter of if, but rather when, we will get a new X-23. Within the next 12-18 months at the most I would say and we will have a shiny new X-23, don’t worry.

      • It’s hard to tell DB if you are commenting on action figures or campaigning for Donald Trump. Oh well, ignorance sure is bliss.

      • Oh, so your hate for “EssJayDubbleyoo PeeSee-ifying” of Marvel doesn’t stop at new characters created to take up classic titles, but it also extends to classic important characters who “get too uppity”, like Falcon? Wow, you’re even more of an arse than I thought.

        • Lol, you painfully don’t understand Falcon’s backstory if you think he is doing Cap or himself justice. Judging by some of your comments I’m really starting to think you are that tumblrite that you were strawmanned into.
Before I’m strawmanned I’d probably state my opinion, I have no issue particular with a diversity plan per say. But, Marvel’s rebranding as opposed to just creating new independent characters coupled with horrendous writing that borders on the worst comics I’ve ever read (female “Thor, Hispanic “ghost rider”, Angela) and some incredible lack of even passing knowledge of characters (Falcon, Captain (Carol & Mar-vell) Marvel, Iron-man, Odin, Titannia, Absorbing-man…) have really hurt the brand imho. It doesn’t help that the SJW contingent who don’t actually read comics are calling all fans who don’t wish to see their favorite characters removed and replaced bigots.
Sorry for the long post, but felt it was relevant.

          • Anyone who unironically uses the phrase “Ms. Muslim” doesn’t really warrant listening to.

          • ………..Have you even read any of the comics that feature these new versions of the characters? “Falcon not doing the title of Captain America justice” is something even he struggles with in the story. What about Falcon’s backstory precludes him from being Captain America? Literally what? Tell me. Reply to me and tell me exactly what precludes Sam Wilson from doing justice to Steve Rogers and the title of Captain America by taking up the mantle.

Also: while I do agree that what Marvel’s doing may not be the BEST way to go about it, I don’t agree that any of the comics coming out of this are bad – in fact, they’re fantastic! I think the reason Marvel (for the most part) didn’t want to create entirely new characters is because they’d be far more likely to be quickly forgotten than if they’d had new (and old) people take up familiar mantles. Plus, it’s not like those names had only been used for the characters who’d first used them. Hell, this isn’t even the first time a black person has become Iron Man (Rhodey, anyone?) I mean, I’m not surprised that you, someone who seriously throws around “EssJayDubbleyoo” like it means anything anymore (not like it did in the first place), would automatically conflate new with bad.

PS: Angela isn’t a new character, dumbass. She’s a 90’s Image comics character that Marvel recently got the rights to.

          • @jeddostotle7
So new to the MU, with literally no connection to the Spawn/image character despite a passing resemblance? Please stop with the insults, you ask for my knowledge while calling me a dumb ass, what does that make you?
I have no issue with Sam being Captain America, but the way characters interact with him indicates they don’t remember him as a junior/part time Avenger or as what could effectively be descibed as Cap’s Robin. Why is Sam leading the Avengers when there are far, far more senior members on the team? Carol is in a similar position btw. I don’t particularly like that the reason behind turning him into Cap wasn’t to pay forward a storyline but instead perpetuating this tumblr dumbshit lie that people can only identify with characters that look like them. My Favorite characters are Hank Pym, Iron Fist & Luke Cage.
You seem oblivious to context, so I’ll stop here as I doubt you can read this much without being triggered. Rhodes’ race never was made to matter, you can’t say that now.

          • @David Quick question: were you mad when Bucky became Captain America? If you weren’t, I genuinely can’t take any argument you make for Sam not being able to be Cap seriously. You’re mad when a junior/part-time Avenger who’s “only ever been Cap’s sidekick” becomes Captain America, but you’re not when a character who was not only also created as Cap’s sidekick, but has probably done even less to “deserve the mantle”.

Also, nice “triggered” and mention of Tumblr. You said you didn’t want to be “strawmanned”, but the more we argue, the more boxes you tick off on my “anti-SJW” checklist. (Note: before you “call me out” on claiming the term SJW is meaningless, but then using the term anti-SJW: I use the term anti-SJW because you people define yourselves as that, as being against “SJWs”)

PS: I have a feeling Rhodey (a black man) becoming Iron Man was supposed to matter back then (not entirely sure, but that would require going back and reading not only the issue where Rhodey first took up the mantle for a significant amount of time, but also the issues preceding and following it, and I’m already expending more mental and emotional energy (stamina?) than I should on this idiotic argument, so I can’t do that right now, so I’m just going to go ahead and assume it probably was supposed to matter). Even if they didn’t intend for his race to matter, you can bet people probably got mad about it back then. If there are people getting mad about a beloved (white) superhero’s best friend, who is a black person, taking up that superhero’s mantle in 2016 (Captain America), you can bet people in the 70’s would get at least as mad about essentially that same situation (Iron Man), if not more so.

        • “Anyone who unironically uses the phrase “Ms. Muslim” doesn’t really warrant listening to.”

Are you really THAT oblivious to why she was shoehorned into the Avengers and into someone else’s identity? “Diversity”.. We can’t create new characters. We have to get rid of all white characters and replace them with black people, gay people, muslims, trannies, etc. for the sake of so-called political correctness. For people who claim to support the notion of equality you seem very anti-white, anti-male, anti-heterosexual and even anti-Christian. That’s not equality. That’s bigotry. How dare you get offended when someone pushes back.

Khan is NOT “Ms. Marvel”. Ms. Marvel is Carol Danvers. Period. Just like Spider-Man is Peter Parker, Batman is Bruce Wayne and Storm is Ororo Munroe. The hero is the regular person is the hero. That’s how that works. Iron Man is not James Rhodes. Captain America is not Bucky Barnes. Batman is not Jean-Paul Valley.

I’d LOVE to see the reaction if Storm were replaced by a Protestant white man. The sky would be falling according to cell phone obsessed neckbeards who think it’s okay to use both bathrooms at Target.

You sanctimonious buttholes really need to take a F-ing valium.

  6. I’m truly astonished by White Rabbit. The others I can all see because Zemo, Typhoid and Songbird are all fairly popular characters, but White Rabbit is one hell of a dark horse.

    • their is also a long line of character who used the Citizen V identity including a ANAD version.

      • Has the All New All Different Citizen V shown up yet in the comics, Komic? I’ve been waiting for that, but haven’t seen him/her yet…

  7. All of these choices are terrible!! There are so many other WORTHY candidates to choose from (Executioner, a good Hulk!!, Doc Ock, shocker, vulture, any member of the Imperial guard, ect.) these choices are D list heroes or villains.

    • I’m 100% sure we’ll get a new Luke Cage next year–possibly two with one being TV-based and one comic-based. I think Hasbro was waiting for the Cage Netflix show to air to get him out there.

  8. Y’know what this poll made me realize we need?

We need a new “guy in a T-shirt” adult male body mold.

I’m serious. We keep getting new body molds but they’re for figures that could probably have been done on another body mold. [coughsunfirecough] The only real “street clothes” body mold that Hasbro has right now (not counting movie figures, which are way too specifically detailed to be reused effectively) is that godawful trench-coat Punisher/Nick Fury mold that’s more dated than Full House references.

    It’s also really bad.

Seriously, Hasbro could milk the hell out of a mold like that. They could make a Workshop Tony Stark figure, yknow, wearing the shirt he wore in Iron Man 3? He could come with swappable Iron Man gloves and boots and, like, an Arc Reactor accessory or something. I’d buy that in a heartbeat.

More IMPORTANTLY, with different boots, forearms, belt, and accessories, we could finally get a proper Marvel Legends Hawkeye based on David Aja’s art (because the one on the BuckyCap mold is… pretty bad. I own that figure because I’m a Hawkeye fan, but I also hate it.) Paint the T-shirt purple, give him different feet (purple chucks) and forearms, and you’ve got Hawkguy as a swap variant. Give him a hat and a jacket and you’ve got scene-specific Clint from the issue where he’s breaking into a strip club. (long story.) I’d buy a solid case of a wave based on Matt Fraction’s Hawkeye, but that’s just me. (We also need a civvie Kate from that run, too.)

Hell, this is a REALLY EASY Punisher figure, since he’s got the single least-imaginative super-costume EVER INVENTED. It’s literally just a skull T-shirt and cargo pants. And guns. [shrug] I dunno, everyone seems to think the Punisher is cool again for some indiscernible reason. I don’t get it, I always thought he was kinda lame.

Of course, none of these characters would be using that mold so that’s kind of a moot point, but whatever.
