Marvel Legends Sleepwalker REVIEW (Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness Rintrah Series)

From Siryn to Speedball, Hasbro is rolling out a multitude of never-before-done characters as part of their 2022 Marvel Legends figures lineup. And the latest 90s niche favorite to get the spotlight is the subject of today’s review: Marvel Legends Sleepwalker! He’s in-stock now on Amazon for MSRP and not nearly as Z-List as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness wave-mate D’Spayre—should you let this comics-based Sleepwalker figure haunt your waking hours?

If you’re not too familiar with Sleepwalker but would like some context for the character, my rambling 10 minute unboxing video (above) might be worth viewing. If you’re already an expert on Rick Sheridan’s sorta-alter-ego, maybe less so.

Regardless of your overall familiarity with the character, Sleepwalker has been frequently requested in collectibles form by fans for many years. Now that Hasbro has finally complied with a  Mindscape guardian worth adding to your collection.

Hasbro Sleepwalker Six Inch Figure Review

Like me, Sleepwalker was in his prime in the 90s. But despite a 30+ year history and having had his own mildly successful comic book solo series for 30+ issues, Sleepwalker has never made it to retail store toy shelves—so the very existence of this Doctor Strange Marvel Legends figure is a virtue in and of itself. But is this action figure any good…?

For the most part, I would say “Yes”. I’ll stop short of calling it a “solid” figure for reasons that will become apparent in a couple paragraphs, though.

Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness Astral Form & Sleepwalker Figures

The inhuman, alien-esque head sculpt is a real highlight of this figure for me. The portrait itself is still humanoid, but the wrinkly green skin and piercing red eyes definitely mark this dude as being inhuman (no, not Inhuman).

The hood is thankfully a part of the head itself, meaning that it turns with the head and looks natural and not ridiculous (like those we’ve seen with figures in the past whose cape-attached hoods are permanently stuck facing forward).

Tattered Cape on Back of Sleepwalker Legends 6" Figure

The tattered cape is reused from an earlier ML release, but there’s some newly-tooled (or at least it’s new to me) wrapping pieces on Sleepwalker’s boots and forearms. These look great and probably will have a rich future in the line.

Box Back Sleepwalker Marvel Legends Figure

I don’t have a problem with the physique on this Sleepwalker Legends figure personally, though I have heard some fans say they would have preferred a more slender mold. Enhanced strength is among Sleepwalker’s generic super-powers, so his buff torso makes sense to me for other characters.

Sleepwalker Marvel Legends Figures

We’ve seen this Bucky Cap body mold before a “few” times, so there’s no surprises in the articulation scheme, which includes:

  • Ball-Hinge Head and Shoulders
  • Ball-Jointed Hips
  • Ab Crunch
  • Double-Hinge Knees and Elbows
  • Swivel Waist, Boots, Thighs and Biceps
  • Hinged Feet with Ankle Rockers

The elbow and knee joints have visible pins, which is to be expected since this mold is a decade old (but still disappointing).

Marvel Legends 2022 Sleepwalker 6" Figure Hasbro Review

Unfortunately, Sleepwalker also suffers from the terrible “gummy plastic” blight that hadn’t claimed any victims in my Hasbro Legends collection in a while. The connection joints in his knees and elbows feel incredibly rubbery and cheap, and it really brings down my overall enjoyment with and fun factory of the figure. He still stands and poses okay, but it’s hard to get past how Sleepwalker’s limbs just feel so… wobbly!

These rubbery joints are my chief complaint with this 6” figure—those who pose their figures once and never touch them again may not care as much, but they’re a major snafu to me.

Marvel Legends Sleepwalker Figure [Packaged

Accessories-wise, we get a Rintrah Build-A-Figure leg, some interchangeable gesturing hands, and… that’s it. I’m not complaining too much, though—I’m not sure how his Warp gaze would be represented in toy form, nor is there really any other swag I’d want or expect for this character. An open-mouthed extra head could have been cool, but wasn’t necessarily needed. What we do get here is fine… just very basic-feeling.

Doctor Strange Marvel Legends Figures Sleepwalker vs. D'SPayre

Overall: I want to rate this figure out of giddiness about just how geeky and wild this character choice is. But need factor alone won’t score an ‘A’, and neither will Sleepwalker. I *LOVE* that Hasbro went deep into this fanboy corner of the 616 to bring us this toy, but nothing about the action figure itself ‘wows’ me—and the gummy limb joints downright enrage me. The new arm and leg wraps and the awesome hooded alien head are the highlights here for sure. Marvel Legends Sleepwalker is a good figure that’s a veritable must-have for fans of the character. It’s not perfect, but it is almost beyond a doubt the best product Sleepwalker will ever get.
