SDCC 2023: Marvel Legends Mindless One Series Up for Order! Blade! Luke Cage!

Hasbro has revealed and released such a steady stream of 6” Marvel Legends figures throughout the year so far that with the upcoming Disney+ wave having already leaked, I wasn’t certain they’d have many surprises left to show at SDCC 2023. But Hasbro actually did have quite a few cards left in reserve—including an all-star comics-centric wave with an army-builder Build-A-Figure! The Marvel Legends Marvel Knights Mindless Ones BAF Series is now up for order, including Blade, Marvel Suns Iron Man, classic Luke Cage and more!

Hasbro Marvel Knights Legends 2023 Mindless One Figure Series Blade Iron Man Luke Cage

At this point it’s become tough for Hasbro to concoct any wave of 6” Marvel Legends figures that can really surprise me, but that’s just what they did when they debuted their 2023 Marvel Legends Marvel Knights series (with returning window box packaging!) at San Diego Comic-Con this week.

And not only was a caught off-guard by the surprisingly A-List wave itself, but also by the Build-A-Figure: Mindless One “henchmen” of Dormammu! Let’s take a look at the whole lineup…

Marvel Legends SDCC 2023 Blade Figure

Headlining this wave, at least in my eyes, is a new classic Blade Marvel Legends figure. We’ve had Blade from Hasbro before, but it wasn’t as recognizable and iconic as this black trenchcoat version.

2023 Marvel Legends Blade Figure and Accessories

Marvel Legends Blade only comes with one head, with teeth bared—but I really don’t know that many would want to display him with a different expression. The weapons he comes with have painted handles that look great, and the severed Build-A-Figure Mindless One head doesn’t feel at all out of place in the package. This will be a hot single-packed figure at retail for sure.

Marvel Legends Midnight Suns Iron Man Figure

Shockingly, there’s an Iron Man figure in this wave that’s also shortpacked at one-per-case. That’s likely because this specific black and gold Iron Man is from a video game that underperformed.

The sole Marvel Legends Midnight Suns figure, Iron Man is largely built off existing tooling and some fans may not feel like he’s fresh enough for their shelf. Even so, he’s got a Mindless One Build-A-Figure leg, so he’ll be a necessary buy to complete the Build-A-Figure.

Marvel Legends The Fist Ninja Hand Skeleton Head

The Fist ninja is a rare Marvel Comics villain I’m not entirely familiar with, created from a corpse via Hand ninja sacrifices. I believe that The Fist has only been around for a handful of appearances after first appearing relatively recently (within the last decade of comics), but what makes the character compelling to Hasbro is clearly the existing Hand ninja tooling and the sheer coolness of a skull-faced ninja.

Marvel Legends Fist Hand Ninja Figure and Accessories

The Fist Ninja is far, far from a character I was specifically dying for, but I do think it will make for a fun toy and a good complementary piece to this year’s Daredevil figures.

Marvel Legends Bearded Daredevil Figure

Speaking of which, the double-packed figure in this wave that is the sole character without a Mindless One BAF piece is a new bearded Daredevil, based off the very recent design of Matt Murdock from within the last year or so of comic books.

The design for this Daredevil is really neat, and I dig the beard that’s reminiscent of (the coincidentally also blind) Lynx-O from Thundercats. Even so, it is a bit disheartening that we’re once again getting a DD without butterfly swivel shoulders that a finesse chart of his type really should have. Matt gets two Billy club accessories, but no Mindless Ones part.

Marvel Legends Lady Bullseye Figure Marvel Knights Series

Carrying on with Daredevil related characters, we’ve got Lady Bullseye, who Hasbro has been teetering on making for well over a decade. If you needed any reminder that time flies, note that this year is the 15th anniversary of Lady Bullseye’s debut, and she’s now appeared in over five dozen comics.

Marvel Legends Lady appears to be relatively solid articulation-wise, and I absolutely love her fan accessories and sais, as well as her vivid black and white color scheme.

Lady Bullseye includes the upper torso of the Mindless One BAF, making her a must-buy for many fans despite not exactly being a household name character.

Marvel Knights Legends Clea Figure

Clea is another character that not every casual fan knows; although she is quite deserving of her first action figure, having served as Doctor Strange in the comics recently (while her husband Stephen was temporarily deceased) and had a cameo at the end of Multiverse of Madness.

Perhaps more powerful than her infinitely better-known husband, Marvel Legends Clea suffers from single-hinged elbows and no biceps swivels. I like the character and her color scheme, but I think this 6” figure will mainly get purchased for its Mindless One arm.

Marvel Legends Luke Cage Power Man Classic Figure from Marvel Knights Series

Finally, we’ve got another hugely fan-demanded character: Marvel Legends Luke Cage Power Man in classic yellow costume. This just looks so wonderfully 70s, and it’s terrific to see the first update of this since the Toybiz days.

Luke Cage comes just with a pair of swap-out fists and a Mindless One leg, but this is the sort of figure that doesn’t really have many logical accessories, so that’s fine. Another most-wanted figure from fans’ wish lists checked off by Hasbro.

Marvel Legends Mindless One Build-A-Figure Running

The aforementioned Mindless One BAF also looks appropriately bulky, scary and imposing. The crimson energy effect piece for the head adds a lot of terror to this monster, who I’d ideally want multiples of do to the multitude in existence. This is one of the best BAFs of the year, and I really think it will help sales surge on some of the less-known characters in this wave.

Marvel Legends Mindless One BAF Figure Midnight Suns Knight

The Marvel Knights Legends series is now up for pre-order and expected to ship this winter. I think some of the shortpacked figures like Blade will be a hot commodity and may even sell out during pre-orders. What do you think, Marvel collectors? What figures from this series will -you- be buying?

SDCC 2023: Marvel Legends Mindless One Series Up for Order! Blade! Luke Cage! — 5 Comments

  1. I’m digging every figure here (well, other than Iron Man). Blade especially looks awesome, that’s an absolute must-buy for me.

  2. I like the set but was very disappointed with the Luke Cage figure he just looks clunky an off. The hand figure I was not really into until I saw that skull head. Iron Man is just a pass for me except for the BAF piece.

  3. I immediately pre-ordered Power Man. There wasn’t a single moment between seeing he was available and clicking to get him.

I’d love a Clea, but I want a more classic comics look from her earlier appearances. I expect this to come out first and then they’ll do a repaint and refigure one for the classic look. I’ll wait for that.

Iron Man… no. Just stop. I’ve felt forced to purchase at least six Iron Man figures, and I refuse to touch another one. I’d buy the BAF piece individually on eBay for twice the cost of his figure if I had to. It means that much to me to NOT buy another Iron Man figure.

Lady Bullseye does look cool. But I don’t know who she is or anything about her, so… that’s a no.

I never read Blade or saw any movies. He looks great, so I’m happy for people that are interested in him. 🙂

    • Funny you should mention waiting for a more accurate Clea.

I was on Marvelous Toy News’ site, and a poster offered up a conspiracy theory. He surmises that Hasbro intentionally never releases the “definitive” version of any character. Essentially that urges us to buy the current figure out of fear that it will never be released again, or the rerelease could be years from now.

Hasbro in turn releases that figure in staggered updates, sometimes within a year or two. Some recent BAFs are a good example: Joe Fix-It is going to be a Walmart exclusive. Sometimes the figure comes in a multipack (Cannonball with his missing legs from the first release).
Each subsequent rerelease is a little better, but not quite “there” yet. (Cannonball came with an alternate “angry” head, but not one with his goggles down over his eyes!). And that keeps us (not you and I, but as a collective) buying.

  4. I don’t own any classic Luke Cage figures so he’s a yes for me. Daredevil (I read the recent series), Clea ( I feel they’ll rerelease her again, though, but who knows when), Blade (only one head sculpt? I’ll put him next to Thunderstrike and Caliban so they can all yell at each other), Fist Ninja (never could find the other ninjas at retail, and they were sold out on BBTS) are my other must-haves for this wave.

Have NO idea who Lady Bullseye is, although that’s a cool design. Another Iron Man?? *groan* Hasbro just seems to randomly insert IM into any wave these days. Sucks for those that want the BAF.

Never heard of Mindless One either, so that’s good for me. Honestly, he looks ridiculous. Hasbro has a way with making more massive figures have stubby legs, torsos, and arms. He looks like a compacted piece of walking $h*T to me. C’mon, now…look at his legs and tell me they aren’t too short. Sorry, not sorry, Mindless One fans LoL
