Of all the Marvel-related toys and collectibles released this year that I swore I’d never buy and then ended up collecting anyway, the most doofy of them all are the Marvel Super Hero Mashers. I resisted this ludicrous concept as long as I could, but Hasbro sucked me in with some of my favorite characters. And now they’re at it again–Marvel Mashers Wave 4 has just been released online, containing Iron Fist, Pyro, Electro and Miles Morales Spider-Man!
I still can’t believe that I’m buying Marvel Super Hero Mashers figures, but Hasbro knew exactly what card to play with me by releasing characters this year like Loki, Ghost Rider, Deadpool and Iceman who don’t get a ton of mass market figures released.
And when I saw the figures Hasbro unveiled at SDCC 2014 during the summer, I knew Hasbro wasn’t done with me yet. I’ve been anxiously awaiting Marvel Superhero Mashers Wave 4 since July, and they have finally arrived!
Given all of the articulation in the hips and arms, I think this Iron Fist Mashers figure will be able to take on lots of good martial arts poses–and that translucent green dragon fist effects piece just may be the coolest accessory any Marvel Superhero Mashers figure has come with yet!
Marvel Superhero Mashers Wave 4 Pyro
Meanwhile, the absolute weirdest choice for this series has to be the Marvel Mashers Pyro figure. I fell in love with Pyro thanks to the X-2: X-Men United movie, but I wouldn’t presume to say that Pyro is any higher than a C-List character. I can only assume that Hasbro specifically picked him for this wave to complement the Marvel Mashers Iceman figure that came out during the summer.
Marvel Mashers Pyro also has the distinction of being the first (and quite possibly only) figure to ever be released in the Marvel Super Hero Mashers line of a permanently dead character (and no, Wolverine absolutely does not count).
Marvel Mashers Electro Series 4 Figure
Next up we’ve got the Marvel Mashers Electro action figure, which is, well… what it is. This doesn’t look like classic Electro, Amazing Spider-Man 2 Electro, or even Ultimate Electro to me. The electricity effects pieces that attach to Electro’s hands look pretty neat, but Electro’s head sculpt and costume choices both strike me as being pretty bizarre.
This might sell well with kids who loved Amazing Spider-Man 2 (do those kids exist?), but otherwise I think this Electro Marvel Mashers Wave 4 figure is going to be a dud at retail.
Because all Mashers’ proportions are highly-exaggerated, for once it doesn’t bother me that Hasbro is just repainting a plain old Spider-Man figure into teenaged Miles Morales. I wish he had his red webbing details painted on, but I’m overall happy to see Miles included in the line.
Marvel Mashers Wave 4 is now available online with free shipping and no tax, but the new figures tend to sell out quickly, so check them out now if you want them. I haven’t spotted any of these figures at a local retail store yet (and believe me, I have definitely been looking for them), but they ought to arrive in regular stores later this month (theoretically).
Are you excited about any of the characters in Marvel Mashers Series 4, Marvel collectors? Or will you be passing on the latest wild and crazy mash-up figures that Hasbro has concocted for us?
Iron fist?PASS. Pyro?PASS.
MILES SPIDEY IS A BUY!! 🙂
Electro IS A BUY!!! 😉 yeah,that’s right.
That’s what I said,Dabid.
None of them have hands 🙁
This is the worst series of figures that Marvel have ever released. Mashers are for kids not collectors and the range they have chosen is bizarre to say the least. In the run up to Christmas my kids spotted the TV ads for the series and went crazy for them. Not only can you not get hold of any of the figures advertised the ones you can get they have never heard of! Realistically what 8 year old is going to want any of the series 4 figures? I know of at least two parents who have taken the figures back to the store for refunds after finding out that their children have no idea who Ghost Rider or Pyro are. My kids are pretty Marvel literate as am I and I know they will be feeling let down by Hasbro’s choice of figures.
They are definitely for kids, but it would be stupid to make a bunch of “Iron Lung Spiderman” style figures when they could also appeal to the collector market.
whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Love this line – so creative and tons of people collect it!!!!
Pure Awesome
