Marvel Legends 2020 Figures: Doom! Strong Guy! Vulture! Squirrel Girl!

Hasbro broke Marvel Legends collectors’ wallets with dozens of new figures going up for pre-order during San Diego Comic Con this week—but now that that little matter of business is done with, it’s time to look ahead to next year! And in 2020, Marvel Legends is taking no prisoners with high-profile new releases in the pipeline including Squirrel Girl, Cosmic Ghost Rider, Vulture, Strong Guy—and even a Marvel Legends X-Men Age of Apocalypse series!

Marvel Legends Dani Moonstar Packaged Walgreens Exclusive

While the items I was most excited about from San Diego Comic Con 2019 were the ones with a more imminent arrival, I do want to jump back and very briefly look at the first 11 figures announced for the Marvel Legends 2020 lineup (plus one more straggler still heading our way in 2019)!

The straggler actually may be my single favorite announcement from the entire event, because it’s a character I’ve been harassing Hasbro for ever since she was listed and then cancelled in 2012: Dani Moonstar!

Marvel Legends Dani Moonstar Figures and Accessories

That’s right, Dani Moonstar of New Mutants fame is finally getting her first-ever mass release action figure as a Walgreens exclusive, 8 years after first being announced. Hallelujah!!

But just in case sales might be a little soft on her, Hasbro is making sure we all need to buy 3 of her because she comes with interchangeable parts to build both Karma and the X-Factor completing member Wolfsbane! (Technically this isn’t the right costume for X-Factor Wolfsbane, but beggars can’t be choosers, right…?)

Marvel Legends Velocity Suit Spider-Man Hi-Res

Onwards to 2020! As you might expect, the hugely-popular Spider-Man and X-Men Legends will be continuing into the new year, and we learned the partial lineups for the wave of each at the SDCC panel.

2020 Marvel Legends Spider-Man Spider Armor Mark IIIThe Spider-Man PS4 GamerVerse sub-line will get two new costumes in the form of the Spider-Man Velocity Suit and the Spider-Armor Mark III. While Hot Toys beat Hasbro to the punch with the Velocity Suit, this is the first toy we’ve ever seen of the Mark III Spider Armor. Nifty!

Marvel Legends Shang-Chi Figure 2020

Spidey won’t have to fight villains alone in the wave, though: the first-ever Marvel Legends Shang-Chi figure (and perhaps the first toy ever of the character that I can remember period) will be joining the fight in this wave!

Many collectors were calling him “Liu Kang” (from Mortal Kombat fame) this week, but with the MCU Shang-Chi movie on the way, he won’t be “obscure” for much longer!

Marvel Legends 2020 Spider-Man Vulture Figure SDCC 2019The last figure announced for the 2020 Marvel Legends Spider-Man series (with at least three more to come) is an upgraded version of the classic Vulture (complete with liver spots)! Collectors weren’t satisfied with the Ultimate Vulture from 2017, and Hasbro is now delivering the definitive “classic” Adrian Toomes we demanded. Thanks, Hasbro!

On the X-Men front, we’ll be seeing at least one Age of Apocalypse themed series in 2020, which came as quite a twist! Now that the Jim Lee X-Men roster is complete, looks like Hasbro is setting their sights on another classic 90s version of the team to build.

X-Men Legends Morph Marvel Legends 2020 Age of Apocalypse Figure

Predictably, Weapon X Wolverine is one of the first three figures announced for the wave. But unpredictably, we’ll be getting a fan-favorite that will pair beautifully with the recent ML Blink—Morph! I would still like an X-Men Animated Series Morph, but I am super psyched for his popular AoA/Exiles costume in 6” action figure form nonetheless.

X-Men Age of Apocalypse Marvel Legends Nate Grey X-Man SDCC 2019

The third Age of Apocalypse Legends figure is Nate Grey, X-Man! Nate survived the Age of Apocalypse and has been on and off around in the X-Books ever since (including headlining a major crossover event this summer), so he’s an awesome choice for the inaugural lineup.

Not from the Age of Apocalypse, but one of the most heavily-demanded Build-A-Figures ever, Marvel Legends Strong Guy arrives in 2020! He looks to be a 100% new sculpt, and is listed as the 2020 Deadpool Legends Build-A-Figure. What other characters will we see in next year’s Deadpool Legends…? We’ll have to stay tuned to find out.

2020 Marvel Legends She Hulk Modern FigureWe don’t know what wave(s) they’ll be in, but two other linchpins of the Marvel Comics universe get updated figures in 2020: Jennifer Walters as the modern Hulk (don’t call her She-Hulk!) and a new Doctor Doom.

Marvel Legends 2020 Doctor Doom FigureThe modern version of (She-)Hulk hasn’t made a universal splash with fans, but she’s a necessary component to build the current Avengers squad. Meanwhile, collectors pretty much revolted over the Superior Iron Man Walgreens exclusive, so Hasbro wisely fast-tracked a classic Doom (which looks downright phenomenal).

Marvel Legends Squirrel Girl on Moped Hi-Res PhotoFor their last pair of reveals at the show, Hasbro has gone to the “unexpected” well again with a new pair of jaw-dropping surprise additions to the Ultimate Riders series: Marvel Legends Cosmic Ghost Rider with Motorcycle & Squirrel Girl with Moped!

SQUIRREL GIRL!!!

…Sorry, I just needed to get that out of my system. I’m, uh… a little excited. See, one of the last remaining Marvel characters with a long-running solo series (sorry Sleepwalker) to never have their own 6” super-articulated figure is ol’ Doreen Green herself—more commonly known by her alter-ego: Squirrel Girl!

Requiring a lot of new tooling and being a smidge of a niche character, I was worried that a Marvel Legends Squirrel Girl might never see the light of day. But Hasbro has felt the love from the legion of Doreen’s humanoid and squirrel fans, and finally she’s getting her due!

Marvel Legends Cosmic Ghost Rider on Motorcycle Hi-ResAnd not only are we getting a picture-perfect Squirrel Girl Legends figure, but she also comes with her companion Tippy-Toe (plus more squirrel companions) and even a Moped! Squirrel Girl seems like a bit of a risk in a $40 set, but I’m reasonably certain that risk will be mitigated by shortpacking her at one-per-case and doubling up on the other new Ultimate Riders set…

…Cosmic Ghost Rider and Intergalactic Motorcycle! The future Frank Castle version of the Spirit of Vengeance has quickly burst into the scene and developed a huge fan-following. As a result, not only is he getting his very own Kotobukiya ARTFX Premier Statue next year, but he’s also getting his first Marvel Legends figure ever from Hasbro!

SDCC 2019 Marvel Legends 2020 Figures Preview Strong Guy Doom Squirrel Girl Vulture

All of these Marvel Legends figures will be available for order in 2020, with the exception of the Walgreens Exclusive Dani Moonster New Mutants figure that’s slated for fall 2019. I’ll update with more information and pre-order links for every figure and series as more specifics are revealed regarding them.

Now that Hasbro has played all their SDCC cards, what do you think, Marvel collectors? Did this show meet your Comic Con expectations, and what characters are you hoping to see announced in the coming months to fill out the 2020 Marvel Legends lineups?

Marvel Legends 2020 Figures: Doom! Strong Guy! Vulture! Squirrel Girl! — 33 Comments

  1. Favorites 2020 releases in order:
    1. Doom – YESSS
    2. Vulture – YESSS
    3. Moonstar – love that its 3 in one, sweet
    4. Shang-Chi – great looking fig definitely overdue
    5. Cosmic Ghost Rider – don’t know the character but really awesome looking fig and bike
    6. She-Hulk – the more i look at it the more i like it, will probably replace my old savage she-hulk fig

For now, not planning on getting the rest pending a sale or somesuch but i’m sure i’ll change my mind about some of them anyhow.

  2. I’m not begging and I’m definitely choosing. Make a proper X-Factor Wolfsbane. Make a proper new mold so she can be posed correct and reuse the mold for Feral/Tigress/etc.

  3. I can’t believe Cosmic Ghost Rider is getting a Legends figure before the All-New Ghost Rider. Don’t get me wrong, Cosmic GR is cool, and this figure looks downright amazing, but I really want a Robbie Reyes.

Not the biggest Age of Apocalypse fan, but I’ve always had a soft spot for X-Man, so I’m excited for him. Morph looks cool too, but I’d definitely prefer an animated Morph at some point. And AoA Wolvie never fails to make me laugh (that HAIR).

Definitely gonna pick up three Moonstars. All three characters are definite must haves for me. Now, if only Hasbro would make Sunspot, Magma, and Cypher…

Strong Guy looks great. BAF for a Deadpool wave, eh? Wonder who’ll be in that. Fingers crossed for Agent X and/or Outlaw.

I’ve been waiting for a Squirrel Girl figure, super excited for her.

And of course, the highlight is good ol’ Dr. Doom. He looks amazing.

    • Oh, forgot to mention a few.

The Spideys are neat. I might pick those up.

Vulture looks great. Reminds me of a Vulture figure from the 90’s animated series that I still have somewhere.

Shang-Chi looks cool. ‘Bout time we got one of him.

She-Hulk, or Hulk, or whatever…eh. It looks fine, but I greatly prefer Jen in her old appearance.

  4. Spider-man: Love Vulture, don’t mind Shang-Chi, don’t need the two Gamerverse figures. Pretty sure Overdrive was spotted in the diorama, so I assume he’s in this wave, too. No guesses on the last two, really (other than want-list kind of stuff), but I hope the BAF isn’t someone I want since I’m only really excited about one of the four figures.

Doom and She-Hulk sure seem like they should be part of another FF “wave” at Walgreens. Maybe we can get Reed’s dad and the kids, too. And Molecule Man.

AOA: Maybe Holocaust for the BAF? I’d think Dark Beast, Sabertooth, Colossus and Cyclops will show up sooner rather than later – those are some of the most unlike their 616 incarnations.

    • Dark Beast has to be included — no sense in not reusing the new Beast mold. I’m also hoping for an AoA Wild Child — I feel like the Hit Monkey body could be reused there.

  5. Pretty much the only way Hasbro was gonna get me buying an X-Men wave was to do AoA, so my wallet and I were both getting pretty comfortable thinking that was unlikely.

Gotta assume a new Holocaust/Nemesis as the BAF, but they could surprise with Colossus or Sugar Man. Apocalypse would work, too, but they just did the regular version of him.

Dark Beast is an easy one, since they can just re-use tooling from the new Beast. There’s a long list of other characters I’d want, including Cyclops, Jean, Rogue, Gambit, Nightcrawler, Kitty, Sunfire, and Sabretooth. Maybe Bishop, too.

I’m usually way more into Spider-Man waves, but these reveals don’t thrill me. Not into the Velocity Suit, the Mark III Armor appears in the comics too as part of the Ends of the Earth story, so I’ll probably get it for that reason. It’s great to get a new character like Shang-Chi, but the figure itself doesn’t look special. And I was happy enough with Ultimate Vulture that this one feels superfluous.

Not into Squirrel Girl as a w/ vehicle figure. Would’ve bought her as a single-pack. Not into Cosmic GR at all.

Strong Guy looks great, but I doubt I’ll buy a Deadpool wave.

Doom looks amazing and I look forward to having him to go with the great Fantastic Four figures they finished putting out last year.

And my fave fig overall is (She-)Hulk. Damn! That looks great. The torn clothes, glowing eyes and veins, angry face… they nailed it!

  6. I’ll get She-Hulk and Doom at nearly any price I have to pay. Dani Moonstar (who I still call Mirage) I’ll get at least 2, holding out that there could be a real Wolfsbane in the future. Vulture is a sure thing too. Squirrel Girl is really growing on me, so I’ll give her a look. If she doesn’t do the Prof X thing and be unreasonable, I might give her a shot.
The rest… as always with me.. not feeling the 90’s. That’s the period that made me quit buying comics after 15 years of obsession. It was baaad. See that hideous Wolverine for just how bad, for example. He makes me laugh. Ugly and goofy and not threatening at all. It was the Apocalypse alright. For the comics industry. LOL

  7. Nah. She’s She-Hulk.

90s X-Men roster isn’t quite complete. Still need Banshee.

Not to mention the rest of the real X-Force (a Cannonball with legs, Warpath, Siryn, Sunspot, Rictor and Feral).

Or Excalibur, Phoenix II, Meggan, Pete Wisdom, a good Lockheed, accurate Captain Britain costume, Moira MacTaggert.

Also, Longshot, Revanche, Random, Widget, Adam X, Copycat.. or the rest of Alpha Flight. The Mutant Liberation Front. The Acolytes. Mimic. The Starjammer. X-Babies. Ahab. Nimrod. Trevor Fitzroy. Master Mold. Shard.

    Maybe even X-Men 2099.

    • X-babies would be fun if done right, but they are so small. How many do you get in a package? Maybe Mojo comes with three or four X-babies and Spiral comes with three or four?

      • I believe Toybiz actually sculpted and showed off an entire set of X-Babies that were going to be pack-ins for the Mojo wave but, alas, they never made it to release.

  8. I really don’t like the face on that Doom.

What is up with Grey She-Hulk being so skinny? She’s supposed to be huge! It’s her normal green form that has those proportions, not her scarred grey form.

    • Yeah, this isn’t the most recent super jacked version of Jennifer, this is the Grey She-Hulk from a while back. I doubt that they could have the more modern version complete in toy form yet. Its always odd when these fleeting characters get definitive figures.

  9. Some great figures coming up. But WHY do another AOA Wolverine? Pretty sure the last version is still pegwarming in some poundshops.

(At least they’re not doing a crappy burnt variant this time with it’s OWN diifferent BaF piece)

  10. Man there’s alot here I want but I’m definitely interested in that galactic ghost rider just because it looks so different.

  11. The only thing that I don’t like about having Wolfsbane with Dani…besides the non-90’s X-Factor outfit, is that Dani is 5’6, while Wolfsbane is only 5’2. So this will be a bigger buck than what should be, for Wolfsbane.

I’m not a fan of any Spiderman outfit outside of the original costume, so those will be an easy pass. Not a fan of PC Hulk, (She-Hulk), either. All of the rest shown are guaranteed buys for me!

  12. Like Droppo, I first quit reading comics in the early 90s, so I’ll only be getting Dani/Mirage, Shang-Chi, Vulture, and Doom. They need to update Electro soon as well, because that version with the black pants and blue electric bolts just doesn’t cut it. We need a classic Electro like they did with the other Sinister Six members.

Still waiting for some Bronze Age nostalgia to kick in at Hasbro so they can give us 70s Jack of Hearts, Stingray, Perez Beast, and Safari Jacket Wonder Man…

  13. Would love if they do a full AOA line, has to be one of my favourite story lines ever in all comics. Sabretooth and Wildchild combo would be awesome.

  14. Well after a very expensive year finally relief! I have to get the Mark 85 Iron Man, Iron Patriot and Heimdall but after them there is only one revealed figure of any interest, Dr. Doom! He looks amazing and perfect for my FF collection. No interest in the AoA figures. I quit X-Men comics at that point! I have read Marvel since the beginning #1 FF, #1 Spider-Man, #1 Avengers, #1 Invincible Iron Man, Original X-Men, #1 Thor and of course Hulk! But in the 90’s most all were seriously lacking and the advent of horrible art really limits me buy. The Manga influence was awful. Give me the John and Sal Busema, early Neal Adams, and the other artists of the era.
New legends desired by this 67 year old are: Melvin Pervis Gladiator, Mr. Hyde, Mangog, Quasimodo, a good Dragon Man!

  15. Liked the Marvel legend characters revealed at SDCC as always there are a large number of Marvel character that I would like to see made to complete teams. AOA give us some of the character that have never been made in these set. Rogue, Magneto, Havok, Sinister,Jean Grey(Marvel Gold TB),Angel, Gambit. etc. Thor Villains Comic,

  16. While I don’t have a lot of attachment to some of the X-Characters on this list, I’m still definitely getting them. I’m always a sucker for mutants!
Heck the only figure i have Zero interest in is Squirrel Girl. Thank god she isn’t in a main line, I can skip her without having to track down a BAF piece.

  17. I’m really super excited and stoked for the Classic Dr. Doom, Classic Vulture, Shang-Chi, and Strong Guy BAF reveals. Hopefully now with these latest upcoming Classic releases, it would be great to finally get updated Classic 70’s versions of Luke Cage aka Power-Man, The Falcon, etc., to replace the outdated ones we got from Toybiz. Keeping my fingers crossed 🤞🏾

  18. Who do I have to threaten, service, or pay off to get a Firestar figure?!? It seems like she should have had one well before now …

  19. Actually a wolverine with a decent hair n head sculp, I’ll get him being the old sis Wilkie looks like hell, she hulk and strong guy look good too
