Marvel Select Apocalypse Pre-Orders! Gallery Doc Ock! Phoenix & Iron Man Busts!

Diamond Select Toys has produced quite a few iconic villains in their Marvel Select figures series over the past two decades-ish, but perhaps the one fans have been demanding is En Sabah Nur himself. But at SDCC 2022 this week, DST finally fully revealed the Big A—and more! Marvel Select Apocalypse, Gallery Doc Ock PVC, movie Iron Man and Animated Phoenix Busts are all up for order now!

After first announcing and previewing Marvel Select Apocalypse way back at their panel in October at NYCC 2021, X-Men fans have had a long wait for Diamond Select Toys to do the full reveal.

But this week, Diamond Select both publicly showed off their Apocalypse and put him up for order—and the “fittest” mutant isn’t the only new Diamond Select Marvel collectible up for sale!

SDCC 2022 Marvel Select Apocalypse Figure

Standing at 8.5” tall, the mighty Apocalypse Select figure appropriately towers over his inferiors. I’ve heard some complaints from collectors about his face, but it looks fine to me—En Sabah Nur has never exactly been a sexy hunk. He’ll also include various accessories such as an interchangeable drill hand.

Marel Gallery Doc Ock Statue

Expanding the Marvel Gallery Spider-Man Villains lineup, we get the unexpected arrival of Doctor Octopus. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a Doc Ock statue where he’s not just standing around, and the visual of him walking around on his arm tentacles is just super cool.

I outright hate the translucent effects piece Doc Ock’s foot is perched on, but that doesn’t ruin the piece for me. The design itself seems rather inspired to me otherwise.

DST Phoenix Jean Grey Bust

The value-priced lineup of resin X-Men Animated busts based on the X-Men 92 cartoon also gets an all-new entry with (green) Phoenix, Jean Grey.

X-Men Animated Mini Bust Jean Grey Phoenix Statue

We’ve seen about a zillion pieces of Phoenix in this iconic pose over the years, and this is another. The cel-shading deco and translucent effects look good, and this will make a nice (albeit not terribly thrilling) addition to a shelf of these X-Men busts. With a $100 MSRP, she’s also the most expensive piece in this series ever–and one some fans may feel they can skip since there’s already been a proper Jean Grey in Jim Lee X-Men costume released.

Iron Man Legends in 3-D Movie Bust

Finally, we have a new Infinity War Iron Man Legends in 3-D bust. I skipped the comics-styled Iron Man bust in this 1:2 scale, but after unboxing the comics Spider-Man bust recently, I’m second-guessing that decision.

For the sub-$200 price point, I find these resin Legends in 3-Dimensions busts to be very hefty and well-done overall. Iron Man Mark L looks slick, and hopefully this is a fast sellout for DST like last month’s Magneto bust.

Marvel Select Apocalypse Figure

Marvel Select Apocalypse, Gallery Doctor Octopus, Animated Phoenix Bust and Legends in 3-D Iron Man are all up for order now. Given some of the recent surprise fast sellouts, I think it’d be wise for anyone who wants Apocalypse or the Iron Man bust to reserve those early (in fact, BBTS is already pre-sold out of Apocalypse in under 12 hours after opening orders).

What do you think of this round of Marvel Diamond Select Toys solicits, Marvel collectors? Anything in this batch you’re considering for your own shelf?
