REVIEW: Marvel Legends Joe Fixit Hulk Walmart Exclusive Figure

Joe Fixit the Las Vegas Mob Enforcer is about as far down on my list of favorite Hulk iterations as you can get, so I wasn’t too chapped about missing the Joe Fixit BAF of the Marvel Legends GamerVerse series I absolutely didn’t want to buy the entire wave of back in 2020. But now that I could get him solo as a Marvel Legends 2023 Walmart Exclusive (without having to buy variants of Iron Man and Captain America I’d immediately bin), this Grey Hulk looked a whole lot more appealing. Now that I have him in-hand, am I glad I softened on the mobster (not monster) Hulk? Here’s my review…

Marvel Legends Joe Fixit Exclusive vs Wolverine

Peter David is one of my favorite comic book authors across my lifetime, but occasionally I wasn’t enamored with some choices he made. Las Vegas mob enforcer Gray Hulk as Joe Fixit is one such choice, as this unexpected character development for Hulk was a bit too out there for my taste.

And so, when I missed out on the initial video game based version of this figure as a Build-A-Figure three years back, I wasn’t really troubled. In fact, I barely spared ML Joe Fixit a thought at any time during the three years between his original release and when this year’s “Walmart Collector Con” edition was announced. I decided the singles release of a more comic styled Joe Fixit was as good a time as any, and decided to jump in. I’m glad I did.

At this point in the year it’s no surprise that the Walmart Joe Fixit Legends figure comes in the plastic-free cardboard packaging, which looks the same as usual but may be heavier than you anticipate due to the bulky figure within. You’ll immediately note the well-painted pinstripes on the suit, which I totally love.

Joe Fixit comes with two little baggies of accessories that include his head with hat, fists and (two-piece) gun. It’s not a lot of accessories, but it’s plenty to add a lot of options and flavor to the figure.

The default head without hat is downright awesome. The toothy smile is one of the most sadistic expressions I’ve ever seen on a Hasbro Marvel Legends action figure, and will be my permanent portrait of choice for displaying him. The slicked-back hair is plain rockin’. An insanely good head overall.

Fists are vital inclusions for any Hulk toy, and the Tommy gun snaps together in a half-second and can have a trigger finger satisfyingly placed upon its trigger. The head with gangster hat isn’t as expressive as the one without, but was a necessity nonetheless and I’m happy it’s there (whether I’ll display it or not).

Back of Marvel Legends Hulk Joe Fixit Walmart Exclusive Figure

As you might expect from a Build-A-Figure wearing a suit, ML Joe Fixit Hulk isn’t the world’s most articulated action figure. But to my surprise, I still feel pretty okay about the articulation set, which includes:

Swivel-Hinge Wrists
Swivel Thighs
Hinged Shoes with Rockers

It’s possible there’s waist or upper torso articulation under the suit, but it’s inhibited so much that I can’t utilize it if there is such. The lack of swivel biceps is the most glaring omission to me, though.

Regardless, I think the articulation is adequate for a monster wearing a suit. Joe Fixit Hulk’s fancy black dress shoes look awesome, and it’s pleasantly easy to stand him up stably on them.

Despite the limited arm articulation, Joe poses nicely with his gun or in a bare handed pose as well.

Joe Fixit feels quite cool and casual with his hat-wearing head as well. It has a very gangster feel to it that a lot of fans may prefer when Gray Hulk is just hanging around on their shelves.

Hasbro Marvel Legends 2023 Joe Fixit Hulk Review

Overall: Marvel Legends Joe Fixit Hulk is a case where the wait was definitely worth it, as the updated solo release is a monumental improvement over the Build-A-Figure. The plain suit on the GamerVerse version was dull, whereas the new comic-inspired pin-striped suit adds a surprising amount of fun to the design. The new “grinning” head without hat and the Tommy Gun also massively spruce this up. The articulation is semi-limited and imperfect, but otherwise this is an outstanding toy of this version of the Hulk. Not a figure update I would have thought to ask Hasbro for, but I’m glad they made it.

REVIEW: Marvel Legends Joe Fixit Hulk Walmart Exclusive Figure — 1 Comment

  1. Great review and it’s swayed me to buy Joe Fixit 2.0! I regret getting the BAF a few years ago (although I did eventually unload him on ebay and made my money back)
