When it comes to the sheer amount of high-end collectibles being released for a brand, it looks like Marvel is the new Star Wars! The number of statues, sixth scale figures and other high-end products being released in 2014 is truly staggering, and Sideshow Collectibles has become increasingly ruthless this year. Along with thousands of dollars worth of other “must have” Sideshow Marvel statues, Sideshow has another major release on the way: the Sideshow Daredevil Premium Format Figure statue is now up for order!

Though Daredevil is one of Marvel’s oldest and most classic characters, Daredevil just hasn’t reached the same heights of fame as some of his Stan Lee-created counterparts. I sort of enjoyed the Ben Affleck Daredevil movie (seeing that movie was the first Valentine’s Day date I ever took my future wife on, believe it or not), but the (vocal) majority tend to loathe the Daredevil movie.

Sadly, besides that much-reviled movie, Daredevil has spent much of his existence flying below the radar of the masses.

All that is set to change with the premiere of the original Netflix Daredevil series that begins airing in 2015, and Sideshow Collectibles is ready to capitalize with a preemptive strike in the form of Daredevil’s first-ever quarter-scale statue! No, this isn’t Daredevil’s first Sideshow rodeo–Sideshow has previously released a Daredevil Legendary Scale Bust, a Daredevil vs. Bullseye diorama, and a Daredevil Comiquette Statue–but this is the very first Sideshow Premium Format Daredevil Statue!

Sideshow Collectibles’ sculptors have done an exemplary job with the execution of the fabric costume on this Daredevil statue. As a rule I dislike soft goods on my statues, but this Daredevil Premium Format Figure has the best use of fabric I can remember on a Marvel Premium Format statue.

For some reason, Sideshow decided to go with an action-oriented, “charging” pose for the Premium Format Daredevil figure. It’s not awful, but it’s not really the pose I would have chosen for Daredevil. He seems a bit too offensive-minded and “Hulk-like” to me the way he’s posed, though the actual sculpting on the piece is excellent.

While I always like to see Daredevil statues perched atop gargoyles and the like, I also really dig the shattered ruins of a Lady Justice statue that serve as the base for this Daredevil Premium Format Figure. The stone texture on the Lady Justice base looks amazing!

The price-point on the Daredevil Sideshow Premium Format Figure is set at $379.99, which seems to be the new default base price for non-oversized Marvel Premium Format Figures. It’s not cheap by any means, and I’m going to have to pass on this statue due to the extraordinary number of products Sideshow already has my future money locked in for.

I’m surprised and a little disappointed that there’s no Sideshow Exclusive Edition Daredevil Premium Format Figure. Virtually every Sideshow PF Statue over the past year has had an exclusive edition with an extra item, so it’s bit sad that poor, unloved Daredevil goes without anything extra or special. I’d be legitimately stunned if Sideshow Collectibles doesn’t announce a limited Original Daredevil (Yellow Costume) variant at some point within the next year, however.

The Sideshow Daredevil Premium Format Statue went up for order on Thursday afternoon, May 8th 2014. I’ll post an update when and if (but really, we know it’s just when) Sideshow announces an original Yellow Costume Daredevil variant of this Premium Format Figure.
