Toy Fair 2014: Funko Rocket Raccoon & Star Lord Wacky Wobblers!

I’m approaching the end of the photos I took in my speed-run of the New York Toy Fair 2014 (if I glossed over anything that anyone really wants to hear about from the show, let me know), but I’d be remiss if I didn’t take some time to discuss a couple items that I imagine most collectors (besides me) aren’t going to care about too much: the Funko Guardians of the Galaxy and Amazing Spider-Man 2 Wacky Wobblers! While Funko Wacky Wobblers are infinitesimally less popular than their Funko POP! Vinyls brethren, I think the Funko Rocket Raccoon and Star Lord Wacky Wobblers are some of the best offerings Funko has ever come up with for the line…

Guardians of the Galaxy Funko Wacky Wobblers Toy Fair 2014

If you’ve seen the Funko Guardians of the Galaxy POP! Vinyls figures, you know that Funko went with an adorable, chibi look for those characters (at least, for the most part). I think they look simply fantastic, and I’m ready to buy all five (plus the unmasked Star Lord POP Vinyls variant) the moment that they’re released.

But if you don’t want your Guardians of the Galaxy bobble-heads to be quite so cute, well… Funko’s got you covered!

Funko Guardians of the Galaxy Rocket Raccoon Wacky WobblerThe Funko POP Vinyls Rocket Raccoon figure is one of the sweetest, most cherubic-looking Marvel POP! Vinyls yet. The Funko Rocket Raccoon Wacky Wobblers figure? Not so much. And I love it! Rocket Raccoon may have an adorable raccoon exterior, but he’s also a tough and hardened soldier. I imagine this more badass take on Rocket Raccoon will be the one that most men prefer, and I’m glad that Funko is giving us two very different takes on the Rocket Raccoon design.

Rocket Raccoon Funko Wacky Wobbler Figure Box and BackYou can see the back of the Funko Guardians of the Galaxy Wacky Wobblers Rocket Raccoon bobble-head in the photo above. Poor Rocket looks a bit less fearsome when you can see his bushy raccoon tail!

Star Lord Funko Wacky Wobbler Back and BoxThe other Funko Wacky Wobblers Guardians of the Galaxy figure on display is the actual star of the movie, Star-Lord (although merchandising-wise, Rocket is obviously the true star). The Star Lord Wacky Wobblers figure looks pretty good, and I like how Funko remembered to have his satchel on his back.

Even so, I sort of wish we’d gotten an unmasked Star Lord Wacky Wobbler instead–Chris Pratt’s facial expressions are so great that I think that could have been really fun. Alas–maybe as a San Diego Comic-Con 2014 Funko exclusive?

Funko Amazing Spider-Man 2 Wacky Wobblers ElectroIn addition to the GoTG Wacky Wobblers, the 2014 Toy Fair was also the first time that the Amazing Spider-Man 2 Wacky Wobblers were shown at an event. We’d seen photos of the Spider-Man and Electro Wacky Wobblers before, and the prototypes shown at Toy Fair are basically the same.

The Spider-Man Wacky Wobbler looks really fun and will look great on a lot of people’s desks. Electro, well… the jury’s out until we see the Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie and find out if anybody is gonna want a movie Electro on their desk.

Toy Fair 2014 Rocket Raccoon Funko Wacky Wobbler The Funko Guardians of the Galaxy Wacky Wobblers and POP Vinyls figures are all now available for order online, with expected arrival dates in June 2014. All of these figures are insta-buys for me, so I’ll post photos of the real deal when they arrive this summer and I have them for in-hand photos.

I know most of you Marvel collectors are probably not big on Wacky Wobblers, but who besides me is tempted to join me in picking up these awesome Wacky Wobblers Guardians of the Galaxy bobble heads?
